… to host a talk show, give ‘advice’ and judge people the way he did?

The Channel 4 programme about the show is on and it’s just made me think about it all again!

Haven’t heard of this documentary, is it showing for the first time now? Will definitely check it out on catch up

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/03/2022 21:11

I'm watching. OMG I got the impression that ITV had wanted him back at some stage. I honestly can't see him working on TV again

He is a host on TalkRadio now.
Cherrycrush · 13/03/2022 21:12

It’s unbelievable that it was sort of happening in plain sight for nearly two decades.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/03/2022 21:14

Xeno I didn't know that

beverleybass · 13/03/2022 21:16

@ClandestineAdulation is it brand new or previously aired?

Will definitely be watching on catch up later

MrsGHarrison87 · 13/03/2022 21:17

I feel bad for him. It was the show as a whole that went downhill and potentially contributed to the man's death. There were other people working on that show, but it all fell on him because it's his name.

Cherrycrush · 13/03/2022 21:18

The way he used to shout at guests and get in their faces was extremely ugly.

Changeymcgee · 13/03/2022 21:18

Watching this back now makes me cringe.... And I am generally not a pearl clutcher

drawingpad · 13/03/2022 21:21

The only qualification he had was being an odious little man. Perfect for ITVs 'let's shame disadvantaged people' to the nation show Angry

Disgusting. All of them.

booplefloof · 13/03/2022 21:21

It was car crash tv. I thought he got too big for his boots as he became more famous

Merryoldgoat · 13/03/2022 21:22

I always thought it was vile and exploitative. I’ll watch on catch up but I never watched the program - just the odd clips I saw. It seemed like poor and vulnerable people being harangued by a more ‘intelligent’ man using sophistry and money to subdue and embarrass. Vile.

Merryoldgoat · 13/03/2022 21:22

I mean I watch the documentary on catch up.

SD1978 · 13/03/2022 21:23

The entire show was the issue. Blaming him solely as the front man, is pathetic. They production team and the channel itself needs to be held accountable. It was poverty porn for the masses and the stupid. I don't for one minute believe that those who went on it didn't know what they were signing up for- the UK's version of Jerry Springer. It was an opportunity for 5 minutes of fame. To claim afterward you didn't know how the show worked....everyone did. The whole production team should be held accountable, not one man alone. He was vile, yes, and should be accountable, yes, but not alone.

Georgeskitchen · 13/03/2022 21:28

Watching it now. I used to watch the show sometimes when I wasn't working. I can't imagine why anyone would want to appear on the show and be publicly humiliated but it seems there was no shortage of people wanting to appear

I think quite a few of them had low iq/ learning difficulties

What an absolute vile show. I always thought Graham (?) was even worse than JK. Wasn’t he a real psychologist? I find it baffling that he would have any involvement in it

ldontWanna · 13/03/2022 21:35

Nothing. He didn't have to be. He was just the host. He didn't pick the format, the guests,he didn't produce it ,he didn't bribe the (1 million) viewers to watch it.

ITV did all that. They wanted their own Jerry Springer shit show. They wanted the views and the money and they got it, for 14 years and people loved it.

ENoeuf · 13/03/2022 21:37

Someone on Twitter has pointed out Graham is getting off lightly. He actually claimed to have some insight.

Georgeskitchen · 13/03/2022 21:38

Yes I believe Graham is actually a psychologist. Not sure what outcomes he had helping the people who came on the show!!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/03/2022 21:38

I saw him in a shop in day and he shouted at a 'fan' who asked him for a photo. There were children with her too.

Hospedia · 13/03/2022 21:38

I used to travel for work and when we were in Manchester the hotel we used was one of those used by the JK production team.

Not all of the guests knew why they were there, they were either told false reasons or they weren't told at all, just that they'd find out on the day but they were led to believe it would be something good.

They had a tab at the hotel bar and were encouraged to use it, they would also have rooms at opposite ends of the hotel. I don't know if the production stirred things up but there would inevitably be arguments, people looking for each others rooms, loud behaviour, and so on.

They would be picked up from the hotel much earlier than they'd been told they were getting picked up so they'd think they had time to wake up, get ready, eat, etc ready to be picked up at a certain time and instead the production team would rock up to unexpectedly knock them out of bed much earlier than agreed.

This is all based on what we saw and what we heard from the guests themselves. We used to groan when we saw Manchester as the meeting location because we knew it would be that hotel and that it would be a shitty night. The whole night before the show and rhen the morning after seemed designed to make sure the guests were potentially hungover and as tired, stressed, and dishevelled looking as possible.

ldontWanna · 13/03/2022 21:43

@ENoeuf

Yup, he is actually the one with "qualifications" and having to abide by a code of conduct. He's the one that gave the "advice" and "support" and had a duty of care.

An ex producer said that if they actually properly screened for any mental conditions they'd barely have any guests left, condemning ITV/the show/JK. Funny how he didn't have that crisis of conscience while still doing the show.

ClandestineAdulation · 13/03/2022 21:43

Sorry, yes it’s brand new. I think it’s 2 parts!
