My ex boss has stolen my leaving collection

I left my last job a month ago. My boss said he would put my leaving card and gift (bought with the money from a staff collection) in the post, as he wasn't around on my last day working in the office (hybrid working). He recently told one of my former colleagues he sent me a £50 John Lewis voucher, a bottle of gin and some sweets that I like, posted on my last day. But nothing has arrived, and there are no issues with my post deliveries. Interestingly, he doesn't know my address and has never asked me for it...

I genuinely don't care about a bottle of booze and a voucher, it's the principal of taking other people's money I'm annoyed with. I know I have no evidence but this manager is a bully and keeps getting away with horrible behaviour (which is why I left). He got caught stealing bottles of wine from our Xmas party a few years back, so he has form. Surely he'd have sent a parcel valued at roughly £80 by signed for post as well, or would check that I'd received it?

Would I be mad to say something?

@Sadleaver

Update: Apparently his dog ate my leaving card and the gift card and he's been meaning to replace them.
Of course they did. He’s lying. I would text him every other day asking for the replacement card.

Was that before or after he posted them to you?

Blogblogblogblog · 23/03/2022 16:38

Hope the dog survived.

Haha - his dog ate a card, voucher, chocolates AND A BOTTLE OF GIN??? Grin

Outed himself as a thief....

Exactly poor dog. Sounds like he needs reporting to the RSPCA! 😂

Miss. Miss. The dog are my homework.

He's a twat. He knows you won't believe that and he doesn't care.

OMG that excuse doesn't work with kids at school & certainly doesn't with adults in the workplace. He nicked your collection, has been caught and made a crap excuse up.

I think you should go to the company HR, with a deadline that if the matter is not investigated, the police will be involved. Stick to it 100%.

2bazookas · 23/03/2022 17:37

Tell your colleagues they need to get back the money he stole from them.

Exactly this.

There's been no animosity between us during our time working together, it's so weird, he's simply just an awful person. I can't believe people like this actually exist in a supposedly professional (and quite senior) capacity at a very well known and well regarded organisation.

I would publicly shame him! Definitely make it known what he has done. Also, surely the dog would need medical attention if it did eat a gift card? Also if it has been purchased but not spent the company can still access details and re issue worth a try?
