Pay rises

flounfer · 11/03/2022 12:40

Hopefully this won't come across as insensitive but I am wondering what pay rises if any people are expecting this year? On the one hand we are told it will make inflation worse but then bankers have had record bonuses & Ive seen some posts on here taking about double digit % pay rises. Mine is 2%, better than nothing obviously but not much help.

OP posts:

Zero for me & most of us got the same even management. Private sector company. Have warned us it will probably be the same next year.

Meandthesky · 11/03/2022 15:05

5% (private sector) but I’m on just below national average so it’s not a huge amount of money and I am worried about massively increased cost of living

FloraPostePosts · 11/03/2022 15:06

Public sector here, professional role, and pay has fallen down massively since 2010 - I’ve only had rises totalling 2% in that time, given we are bound by central government rules on public sector pay freezes.

So my pay has fallen way behind inflation, over successive years.

bookish83 · 11/03/2022 15:07

@msc6199

NHS so basically a pay cut!
Have you any guesses what we might get? I can't believe after the big deal last year of giving us a tiny pay rise, it will just go in the NI rise.

Rubbish!

Ionsion · 11/03/2022 15:08

If businesses don’t pay their staff in line with inflation then they can’t really complain about any recession because they will have contributed towards that by reducing people’s spending power. I’m getting a pay rise but at under 2% it’s a bit of an insult really as prices are going up way higher than that. DH isn’t getting any rise so basically it’s effectively a pay cut. We are cutting down our spending to the bare minimum because I know the rises we’ve seen so far are the tip of the iceberg and I want to try and prevent losing my house.

woodhill · 11/03/2022 15:11

Mine's been 1% for years'Hmm

featheryfancy · 11/03/2022 15:14

3.5% here. They've also honoured our bonuses despite the company not achieving targets which I'm pleasantly surprised by.

zighead · 11/03/2022 15:14

We got nothing last year and a crappy 2% this year Angry

Totalwasteofpaper · 11/03/2022 15:18

Mine was 6-7%. Its fixed across the company and they are fairly generous in general IMO.
I feel very lucky tonhqve a decent employer as we head into a recession

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/03/2022 15:20

Real terms pay cut. Again.

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/03/2022 15:27

www.bbc.co.uk/news/55089900#:~:text=Public%2Dsector%20pay%20was%20frozen,took%20into%20account%20their%20characteristics.

Swings and roundabouts. Even within public sector some got good pay rises, but others didn't, so averages always hide sector issues.

Basically (not including pensions or job security) the pay you may receive in the public sector now more or less matches the private sector, but when you include pensions and job security, it is still a better place to be.

AlbertCampion · 11/03/2022 15:27

Absolutely nothing, as per. And husband is a teacher so the same for him. I am so worried about the rising cost of living.

OnlyNoodlesMichael · 11/03/2022 15:32

1% max but more likely nothing. Had nothing last year either. Public sector. It's truly shit and I'm feeling so permanently anxious at the moment.

TabithaTittlemouse · 11/03/2022 15:35

I can’t keep up with the supposed nhs pay rise. Probably a pay cut.

Horriblewoman · 11/03/2022 15:36

If it helps to counteract the big horrible banker bonus stories I'm in banking and 0% pay rise 😁

Lifeismeh · 11/03/2022 15:38

Veterinary world - not had a pay rise in 11 years and won’t be getting one any time soon.

qualitygirl · 11/03/2022 15:40

We get 2-3% each year regardless. This year it was 2.3%

Citabell · 11/03/2022 15:42

0% which is why I went for promotion instead of relying on one that blatantly wouldn't come.

LuckyC27 · 11/03/2022 15:43

In the aviation industry nothing since 2019 and unlikely this year

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 11/03/2022 15:44

Nothing for me. I haven't had a rise in years.

Overthebow · 11/03/2022 15:49

I got around 6%, not sure what it will be later this year. I thought mine was good then a few months later inflation has hit 7%!

TheGreenLady · 11/03/2022 15:51

Work for a Building Society which made massive profits this year. Got 10% bonus and 4.4% rise.

nearlyspringyay · 11/03/2022 15:53

@NameChanger45465465

I'm also really hoping my reply isn't insensitive.

I was given a recent pay rise which will work out 20% it's a huge relief for me with the cost of everything going up.

I haven't had a pay rise for many many years. My wage is now a fair reflection of the work I do as I have slowly increased responsibility in the last few years with no wage increase.

That's fucking huge in any sector unless you've moved roles.
episcomama · 11/03/2022 15:57

My "regular" pay rise would have been 3.95% but I've been paid less than market for a number of years, and used a job offer from another company to negotiate a pay rise. Salary alone it's 18% but with stock options around 36%.
