Tone deaf Chelsea supporters

Seriously how can the supporters club actually put their spokesperson on national TV, to say the fans are innocent in this and should be allowed to enjoy the football.

Sure the innocent Ukranians would love to enjoy a game of football but right now there are more important things going on that the right of a Chelsea fan to watch a bloody football match

Yanbu at all. My db goes to all the home games and he’s happy to sacrifice them.

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 10/03/2022 18:17

Link?

Finallylostit · 10/03/2022 18:23

It was live on national news just now - so no link - sorry.

My jaw dropped at the self entitlement

I would have thought it’s more important that it means 100s of staff haven’t lost their jobs. Even that would have been tone deaf but given the rate at which prices are rising here, I am pleased that the staff know they can still go to work.

tttigress · 10/03/2022 18:25

They seem pretty blinked. Football isn't exactly the most important thing right now.

Valeriekat · 10/03/2022 18:58

As Bill Shankly said?

Infracat · 10/03/2022 19:04

I heard this guy on the radio earlier and coulnt believe it either!!!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/03/2022 19:06

I thought the fact they were chanting Abramovich's name during the minute applause at the weekend was beyond contempt.

SickAndTiredAgain · 10/03/2022 19:09

I thought similar when watching the news earlier (although this was the news itself, not this man). They had a live report from a centre in Lviv, talking about bombings, and the attack on the maternity hospital. When it went back to the studio the anchor said “and now live to Stamford bridge to hear how the sanctioning of Ambramovich is affecting Chelsea”. And there was a detailed conversation about whether Chelsea would still be able to buy new players, then the news went back to reports about people dying in Ukraine.
I’m very glad the people who work there will still be paid. But otherwise, really, get a bloody grip.

Finallylostit · 10/03/2022 19:19

This was woman aswell as a male supporter

The wage bill is 28million a week I thought I heard !

balalake · 10/03/2022 19:24

There has sadly been a nasty element of some Chelsea supporters, despite all the efforts to move the club upmarket.

The sanctioning is at least a week later than it should have been.

balalake · 10/03/2022 19:25

@thereisonlyoneofme sounds about right.

HermioneWeasley · 10/03/2022 19:26

I know. The Russians bombed a maternity hospital and the people of Mariupol and dying of dehydration but heaven forbid they should be slightly inconvenienced

MissLC · 10/03/2022 19:31

To be fair, surely its Chelsea making it an issue for the fans? Isn't it just that they can't SELL tickets? They could take it in the chin, do a ballot for free tickets and get money from concession sales?

SquirmOfEels · 10/03/2022 19:34

It was a random fan, wasn't it?

Not an official Supporters Coub rep.

Also, the ITV London news stated that fans overwhelming thought the difficulties with their club were nothing compared to what Ukrainians are going through

RoseAndRose · 10/03/2022 19:38

get money from concession sales?

They can't do this. I suppose they could let these with concessions continue to operate, but CFC cannot receive payment. They have had to stop selling their merchandise too, cannot sell or buy players, and probably cant renew any players contracts that fall due. Fixtures can go ahead, but with limits. No new ticket sales (so season ticket holders only) and sponsors need to be removed from shirts etc

Finallylostit · 10/03/2022 19:38

The woman was from the supporters club.

If you put the words, the fans are innocent in any statement - you are wrong.

You support the actions of the govt - end of story

OP posts:
SquirmOfEels · 10/03/2022 19:41

The fans are innocent, in the sense that I doubt very much that there are any, let alone many, which support the invasion

Which bulletin was the woman from the supporter club on ? And was she really speaking on behalf of the club?

QuebecBagnet · 10/03/2022 19:43

Why on Earth are the team flying from London to Norwich this weekend and therefore saying a 20k limit isn’t enough? Surely they can hire a coach?

antisocialsocialclub · 10/03/2022 19:45

@HunterHearstHelmsley

Same, I’m glad Thomas Teukel called it out in that post match interview too
mummykel16 · 10/03/2022 19:47

It's football these are the same sad acts that would miss the birth of a child for a match, what do you expect

nearlyspringyay · 10/03/2022 19:49

You'd think wouldn't you! Fml.
Clarabe1 · 10/03/2022 20:04

On one hand I feel sorry for the fans because Chelsea FC have become collateral in a war that has got nothing to do with them, they should be angry with the UK government and the FA who allowed the oligarchs to invest their dirty money in football. Abramavich with his unlimited funds took them to the top- now they are going to become a normal football club and they can’t take it. Very tone deaf of them to chant his name, not very bright are they?

CorneliusVetch · 10/03/2022 20:08

@Valeriekat

As Bill Shankly said?
It’s a great quote when being flippant (“some people say football is a matter of life and death… but it’s much more important than that” or words to that effect) but at times like this it could not be clear how much football matters. And I’m a football obsessed season ticket holder (not at Chelsea) so I get the fans being disappointed, but they need to watch the news and get a sense of perspective.
