Customer made B**w Job action

OK, I definitely know AINBU to feel really grossed out and uncomfortable by this, but a customer (fairly regular in my job) has just asked me in general chit chat if everything's still going well with my OH?? I said yeah, it's going great, smiled and then to my absolute horror!!! He did the blow job gesture (pretending to hold a cock to his mouth...you know the one) and asked if I was doing that!!!!!!! I know...I know... I should have come back with a million replies, can obviously think of them now he's pissed off, but it just stunned me at the time and I didn't answer!!!! What the actual Hell!!! Do people really think that's an appropriate thing to.....in public no less!!!! What would have done in this situation???? And if it happens again....I'd like some really good come backs. Not that it makes a difference I don't think, to the whole gross situation, but this guy is in his 70's and I'm in my 30's.

I cut my barmaiding teeth working in a Junior Ranks Club (NAAFI bar) in a small garrison with no single british women on the camp over the age of 14 except for me and one other.
And my dad was quite senior so i could get away with being a bit gobby.
So i learned to shut down a lot of quite nasty stuff early on.

And now I'm ancient? I still don't put up with it (although i am grey and invisible now) and i don't let people do things like that to other people, especially young serving staff, if I'm around when it happens.

If it's dementia? he shouldn't be out alone, surely?

Well, the good news here is that what happened is clearly sexual harassment, and your employer has a legal duty to protect its employees from such thing (regardless of wether the harasser is an employee or a customer)
So, bring it up to your manager, and if nothing happens, escalate to HR.

whatever i dont really care about your point its still disgusting

PonyPatter44 · 10/03/2022 23:05

I would make sure the words "dirty old sex offender" came out of my mouth, in front of other customers. See how he likes feeling victimised for once.

BeardieWeirdie · 10/03/2022 23:32

Dirty old men are the worst. They think their age gives them a veneer of respectability but a gross 70-year-old is worse than an inexperienced 18-year-old. When I was a 20-year-old student barmaid, I was repeatedly propositioned by old men - telling me my babies wouldn’t go hungry, what a nice arse I had. When one asked me what I thought about spending the night with him, I responded that my only thought was that he was older than my dad. Ugh, just fuck off!! Im so pleased this no longer happens now, in my thirties with children hanging off me.

TonyThreePies · 10/03/2022 23:55

Well, it might be dementia but it might not. He might be just a vile pig. I think that is more likely. A relative of mine turned into an absolute arse when he got older. He didn't have dementia, he had a "what are you going to do about it?" attitude. And he was right - no one did anything about his racist and sexist diatribes because he was just an old boy.

Don't try to think of clever come backs OP. His sort will probably just say you can't take a laugh. Speak to your manager and say you won't be serving him if he comes in again and tell them why.

My delightful current situation is that my boss keeps staring at my tits. Lovely in every other way but it's got to the point that I can't be in the same room as him because he makes me feel so vulnerable. It's affecting my performance but no point in saying anything to HR or anyone, what will they do about it? Likely tell me I'm imaging it I would think.

I've no interest in turning anyone or being an incontinence nurse. However, if you're happy to be placed in a well while somebody reads you a full list of your extensive repulsive qualities and then leaves you to reflect on those, I'm sure somebody will accommodate you.

cocktailclub · 11/03/2022 18:46

You don't need a clever comeback . Don't get involved in that as it will be seen as 'banter'.

Just say I find that offensive please don't do it again.
