Which is why my father left her. I found this out at age 45! She now wants nothing to do with me.

WIBU to be angry and confront her about it?

Honestly I think YABU.
My parents split due to infidelity too (my mum cheated and left my dad for the other man) and the only reason I know was from talking to and supporting my heartbroken dad when she left him, but I don't know the full details. And I don't want to. The only marriage that is my business is my own.

A lot of water flows under the bridge
You rarely see the reality from 1side

Family member left DH for another man
Her fault?
He had had numerous affairs and was physically violent

But is now the victim

Totally disagree with plenty of other posters. These are her parents! It IS wrong to cheat! She's entitled to at least seek answers. If it was anything like abusive circumstances then surely her mother can explain that.

So you’re saying that everyone should be happy for their parents and in-laws to pry into their marriages, ask whatever questions they like and give their thoughts? Because it would work both ways! I can only imagine a post on Mumsnet where someone whose marriage has been impacted by an affair says that their parents and in-laws are wanting to be given information, discuss details and ‘have it out’. Imagine the uproar!

I haven’t had an affair, DH hasn’t (that I’ve ever been aware of), parents never did that I was aware of so I’ve got no oar in this really. I also don’t have any other ‘dirty linen’ I don’t want aired to hide but should any of my kids ever think they are entitled to confront me and demand personal information they’d be lucky if I ignored them vs the alternative of ripping them a new one.

@yogafairy

So what if there are double standards? Women have to put up with double standards from men every single bastard day. So why would we put up with it but when it's against men we aren't allowed? Yeah thats a big fat NOPE from me.
Ooh, super. I'm glad we've decided that double standards are alright as long as everyone gets to have them. That's going to make life a lot easier for all of us. Brilliant! Thanks!

@WalkingOnTheCracks profound.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 24/03/2022 12:02

@HoppingPavlova but obviously your marriage will have more impact on your children than on your parents! And sure maybe the posters on here are right that they don't need to justify their actions to anyone but you're also not owed a relationship with your adult children if you won't talk about something they feel has damaged them in the past.

You were totally out of line.
