DH wants to start a Morris dancing troupe. I must say that I don't think it is something that will go down particularly well in our part of Fulham (the expression lead balloon comes to mind).

AIBU to say NO! Help please!

Let him. You can catch up on reading of popular children’s novels while he’s out.

CowboyJo · 04/03/2022 21:43

YABU. May not be a thing in Fulham but who says he can't form one with mates outside of that area.

comfortablyfrumpy · 04/03/2022 21:43

The world needs more morris dancing.

babyjellyfish · 04/03/2022 21:44

Laughing so hard at this.

Empressofthemundane · 04/03/2022 21:45

Charming and harmless. Let him crack on.

Ormally · 04/03/2022 21:49

Cecil Sharp House up in Camden's leafy enclaves might curb his outdoor tendencies awhile? They certainly know their clogs. And walking down there from the Lock in costume would either make or break the idea!

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 04/03/2022 21:51

YANBU Morris Dancing is utter wank.

MrsSugar · 04/03/2022 21:53

Ahh bless him. Let him crack on. He’s not harming anyone !

LifeWithBellsOn · 04/03/2022 22:02

Actually, send him along to Cecil Sharp House in Camden on a Tuesday night, there's a morris dancing class run by a wonderful friend of mine.

Briony123 · 04/03/2022 22:08

Morris Dancing is A LOT of fun. You are being highly unreasonable.

AlbertCampion · 04/03/2022 22:23

Just came on to mention Cecil Sharpe House! Definitely worth popping in there if folk dancing is his thing. Have had some fantastic nights there when I was more of a spring chicken.

Whetheryouthinkyoucan · 04/03/2022 22:31

On the basis I don’t ask my husband’s permission to start a hobby, YABU to stop him.

HeadacheGrey · 04/03/2022 22:37

@user1493494961

This is at least your third weird thread tonight OP, you must be very bored.

Oh I was ready to say Morris Dancing is cool but obviously OP is taking the piss.

DPotter · 04/03/2022 22:44

I joined a women's side briefly - bloody good fun but absolutely exhausting and not good for my back.

We have a local music and dance festival with lots and lots of Morris sides - brilliant fun watching them.

I've long wished that the English rugby team would respond to the All Blacks haka with a Morris dance

I would pay good money to see this!

Mischance · 04/03/2022 22:46
  1. Saying no makes no sense - it is up to him. you cannot veto him doing it!
  2. Morris dancing is just brilliant - I have done it. It is fun and sociable and a great deal better than many other things he might join.
GroggyLegs · 04/03/2022 22:48

YABU.

Let the man dance.

blacksax · 04/03/2022 22:52

Could be worse. He could be a miniature railway enthusiast.

FrangipaniBlue · 04/03/2022 22:52

This would be amazing 😂😂
takingmytimeonmyride · 04/03/2022 22:59

Omg, you are so so so unreasonable! Of course he should do Morris dancing. Everyone should do Morris dancing. I love Morris dancing. Not that I actually do it, because I have no rhythm or coordination and would end up braining someone with one of those sticks they wave about. But I love watching it. And I worry that it will die out because people don't want to do it.

Which has reminded me that I must get a Morris troop in to my scout troop next term so they can all have a go.

Let the man dance! With bells on.

DancingQueen2018 · 04/03/2022 23:04

Oooh yes, we have a huge folk festival in my town every year and we love the Morris dancers. Also a great excuse for beer it appears - thirsty work!

RightOnTheEdge · 04/03/2022 23:14

Well at least it will get him out of his train shed for a while.

Discustard · 04/03/2022 23:23

Sorry but yabu I love watching morris dancing especially with a nice pint. Would be awful if one had to go all the time in all weathers, but surely that's not part of the deal?

LifeWithBellsOn · 04/03/2022 23:32

For all the PP saying that the England rugby team should respond to the All Blacks Haka with a morris dance - it's sort of been done

ApplesinmyPocket · 04/03/2022 23:36

I love Morris Dancing! we have a few troupes around here (Yokelshire) and I have danced with them (badly) a couple of times.

YADBU and to the posters who put "Is he not an adult?? Surely your opinion is absolutely irrelevant." or "does he need your permission?" or other similar humourless plonkings, just strap those bells on and get to it, you might find you can dance a bit of the pompous away.
