I'm mid 30s and thought the pms weep/irritated cycle were something I left behind in my teens but bloody hell, seems to be ramping up again as I get older!

I snap at everyone, I feel miserable and bloated, and what's with the bizarre dreams/nightmares? The of course AF arrives and I'm hit with horrid cramps for a day or two then it's like a light switch has been flipped and I'm back to normal.

What about you lot, what's it like for you? Any advice for taking the edge off that doesn't involve meds?

Very irritable and emotional with a good dose of anxiety thrown in. I will cry at the slightest thing whether I'm happy about something or sad. It doesn't matter, the week before my period shows up I'm a wreck. I hate it and I know it won't last long but I still feel like crap. I also feel exhausted and want to eat everything in my cupboards.

That said it's a thousand times better than my teens and twenties before I had my kids. Back then periods meant I was vomiting 48 hours before it started, excruciating cramps when it did that would have me lying on the floor exhausted and in so much pain. I'd definitely take the week of grumpiness over that!

RainbowBridge21 · 02/03/2022 19:27

Slightly more irritable than normal but mostly mega hungry.

EnglishMuffins · 02/03/2022 19:27

Bloated, starving, warm at night & heavy.
I get really moody before ovulation rather than before period.

ALbigbump · 02/03/2022 19:29

I started to hate the world around my late 30s, it’s progressively deteriorated since and I’m 50 now!

Animum2 · 02/03/2022 19:31

For about 3 days before I can't stop eating. Get moody and irritable and then as soon as I'm on the appetite goes

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 02/03/2022 19:31

Irritable. Horribly irritable. Teary.

I also get/have the vilest gas known to man 2 days before. On the button, without fail. Always know when to stock up on the lilets! Does anyone else have that?!!

MakkaPakkas · 02/03/2022 19:32

I'm fine, but other people are just very very annoying and unreasonable.

Ofstedclose · 02/03/2022 19:32

Like I could murder somebody. And rage, absolute rage. I've tracked cycles on apps now so I at least have evidence that it's all linked to hormones. Horrible.

tokyo1 · 02/03/2022 19:32

Irritable. Going through it now Grin

PaddleBoardingMomma · 02/03/2022 19:35

@MakkaPakkas

I'm fine, but other people are just very very annoying and unreasonable.
This has tickled me! 😂

You're the real MVP here 🤣 genuinely would have been a thread in a months time

"AIBU unreasonable to ask if I'm dying, (pink wee TMI pic included" 😂

Emotionally fragile, self-conscious, paranoid and starving

PaddleBoardingMomma · 02/03/2022 19:40

To those who feel so low and even suicidal during that time, sending hugs. That's just awful, I'm sorry you go through that.

It's funny, I'm sat reading all the replies and nodding along, there's some symptoms and feelings I hadn't even attributed to being premenstrual but sure enough, so much fits.

Women are amazing, the things we put up with just to bloody function (excuse the pun) the things our bodies can do, it's mind blowing really.

Very unstable 🤣then I come on and I'm like ahhh that explains it 😅very snappy or emotional no pains or anything tho 🤞🤚33 now and always been like it

TripleSeptic · 02/03/2022 19:43

@NaiceHamAndHugs

Everyone is usually a cunt.
I have the same symptoms as you!!
PaddleBoardingMomma · 02/03/2022 19:43

Ah ladies...

I've just had an alarm pop up on my phone to remind me I have my cervical smear tomorrow too! FFS 😩🤦🏼‍♀️ if there was ever a day I didn't want a potentially life saving procedure that is absolutely of the utmost importance and I should be grateful to have access to... yeah it would be tomorrow 😂

1FootInTheRave · 02/03/2022 19:47

Short tempered, hungry and I don't like how my face looks.

Stark contrast to when ovulating.

nightwakingmoon · 02/03/2022 19:49

I’m overdue right now, and I’m so angry and pissed off I could probably kill Vladimir Putin with my bare hands…

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 02/03/2022 19:50

Any tiny bit of mess annoys me enormously as does anyone not pulling their weight in the house. Huge decluttering urges.

Sofiegiraffe · 02/03/2022 19:50

Tearful and irrationally angry at everyone and anyone. Just want to hibernate. Extremely short fuse. Probably not much fun to be around in all honesty.

Sofiegiraffe · 02/03/2022 19:52

Just drained and hate DP!

I hate mine too the week before. For absolutely no reason, usually. Blush

DukeofEarlGrey · 02/03/2022 19:54

I'm 41 and have always had some version of this since teen years. For me the best treatment is to be aware of it and manage it. That means taking care of myself in the run up to my period (keeping commitments light, eating well, exercise, etc.) and then mitigating for it when it happens. When it's really bad I actually try to reduce contact with others if I can! That sounds weird now I type it but it does help when possible to achieve.

TheSoapyFrog · 02/03/2022 19:57

I'm 40 this year and I cry an awful lot and get very emotional, very quickly. It gets worse as I get older. I was sat sobbing whilst watching adverts just before my last period.

frostedfruit · 02/03/2022 19:58

I honestly think PMT is massively overlooked. It's like having a huge mental health problem for 1-2 weeks per month and I don't say that lightly. Since 46 (perimenopause I damned sure) I've had rages that can last literally hours, huge amounts of hate for my partner and - as a PP said - the ability to ruminate on all his past trangressions for days on end. I literally seeth with anger and can't speak to him. Then my periods starts and it's like the clouds part, spring arrives and I feel lighter . . . .
and horrifically guilty. I start HRT tmrw.

HeadPain · 02/03/2022 20:00

Very bad, very angry, short tempered, arguments. Suicidal sometimes, not as much as in the past.
