I'm mid 30s and thought the pms weep/irritated cycle were something I left behind in my teens but bloody hell, seems to be ramping up again as I get older!

I snap at everyone, I feel miserable and bloated, and what's with the bizarre dreams/nightmares? The of course AF arrives and I'm hit with horrid cramps for a day or two then it's like a light switch has been flipped and I'm back to normal.

What about you lot, what's it like for you? Any advice for taking the edge off that doesn't involve meds?

Desperate to jettison out of my life… I only have a period a couple of times a year, and this happens each time. I become full of rage and despair, and would do anything to move across country and abandon DH & DC!

HangOnToYourself · 02/03/2022 18:04

Mine are awful, full on suicidal thoughts until I come on. Totally unbearable, thankfully being on the pill seems to keep then in check

Hollyhead · 02/03/2022 18:11

Really depressed, feeling as though I would rather die than live, brain fog, can’t string any thoughts together, sometimes hate DH too! Then normally it builds to me sobbing then I feel better and within 12 hours my period starts and all is well again for the next 17 days until it begins again.

justamumseekingadvice · 02/03/2022 18:11

I always know when my period is due because the week before I feel very sick, I feel very tired, I feel very dizzy and light headed and then in the days leading up to my period I get very irritable and annoyed by little things that didn’t bother me before. I also get quite bloated a few days before too x

uptonogoode · 02/03/2022 18:14

Exhausted

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 02/03/2022 18:44

Tetchy. Snappy. I usually get a migraine so add a headache and nausea to that.
Then my uterus hurts and everything shifts back to normal.

LetsGoDoDoDo · 02/03/2022 18:46

Just drained and hate DP! I never used to be like this! I'm 40. I usually exercise 5 times a week but this week nadda, can't find the motivation! I'm due on in a few days. Had a chat about it with DP just now and he told me I've been up and down all day (wfh) and, confessed he knows just to ride it out.

I'm off out for ice cream Grin

Wnikat · 02/03/2022 18:51

doom

chickywoo · 02/03/2022 18:54

I’m 39 most of my 20’s & early 30’s either pregnant or on the pill so since 36 ish had copper coil so no hormones, and I found myself googling just last night can pms symptoms start 2 wks before period because that is how I feel, the irritability is slowly building by this time next wk I’ll be writing passive aggressive emails at work and having road rage 🤣 it’s like I’m someone else.
Luckily don’t get much physical symptoms just slightly crampy a day or two.

RincewindsHat · 02/03/2022 18:58

Anxious, grumpy, one or more days feel extremely depressed and cannot shake the low mood, get very bloated and all my clothes feel tighter, and I always have at least one cry-day where I just want to cry all day for no apparent reason. My period pain has for sure got worse following the Covid jabs, and I'm wondering if my mood highs and lows have got worse too - definitely feels more extreme than before, but not sure if it's my age (38).

bellalou1234 · 02/03/2022 18:59

Hungry and very depressed

tunnocksreturns2019 · 02/03/2022 19:02

Suicidal.

I should probably find some way of improving things seeing as I’m widowed and the kids only have me.

ShortColdandGrey · 02/03/2022 19:10

Hungry for crisps and chips. Very tired and a bit grumpy. Mine are due soon and I really want a big poke of chips from the chippy, but I am being good.....for now haha

HelloMist · 02/03/2022 19:11

@tunnocksreturns2019 sorry to hear that, it sounds like it would be worth talking to your GP and/or a friend about it.

Good idea for a thread, OP! It's helpful to read many experience similar. Not sure if it's as bad every month but last month I was definitely more irritable and down until my period arrived, for at least a few days. It can be worse and start sooner on a month where it comes later than my average.

SnowySnowSnow · 02/03/2022 19:12

I cry.

bettertocryinamercedes · 02/03/2022 19:13

I used to be a raging mess - ready to bite everyone's head off

Then I got a coil and no more periods or rage x

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 02/03/2022 19:14

I'm due my period any day now and I'm so agitated I could cry. I feel physically sick with it.

It's not usually like this but last month was pretty bad too.

I'm 33 and have no idea what is going on.

HelloMist · 02/03/2022 19:14

@PaddleBoardingMomma just be prepared for pink wee if eating a lot of beetroot (possibly poo as well)! It can be a bit scary to see if you don't remember why Grin speaking from experience.

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 02/03/2022 19:17

40, and I usually have a day of this-is-the-end-of-the-world feeling between 5 and 1 days before my period starts. It is not a time I am able to make rational decisions clearly (even though my head knows this is “just” my hormones, my emotional response is terrible, and I’m usually very calm).

My periods returned after a 2 year gap (pregnancy/breastfeeding) just before the first lockdown and so I originally blamed it on lockdown blues, but they’ve continued like that. I used to have down days but it’s much worse now.

WingBingo · 02/03/2022 19:18

I’ve muttered the divorce word 3 times in 7 years. I was very premenstrual every time. Only realised when I got my period.

I genuinely though he was very unreasonable but looking back my reaction was way over the top.

Disneymagic321 · 02/03/2022 19:19

Try b6 and magnesium glycinate or citrate supplements, EPO.

Yamalt · 02/03/2022 19:20

Welcome to peri… it can last 10 years…

Whyemseeaye · 02/03/2022 19:24

Murderous, and it’s the same around ovulation time too 😵‍💫

anormalperson · 02/03/2022 19:24

I'm glad I found this thread . I was fine for a good while but mid thirties and my mood falls off a cliff about a week before. Pick fights with DH over nothing and despise the way I look( when usually I don't) . So frustrating.

SallyWD · 02/03/2022 19:25

I'm 47. In the days before my period I just feel flat and utterly exhausted. I just want to crawl in to bed.
