Let’s talk stupid and random fears, for a laugh

To have a break from people being up in arms about pancakes or being vaporised in a nuclear war, let’s talk really random fears.

I’ll start. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I think a rat might swim up the bowl while I’m having a wee and nip my bum.

Also when I’m walking near a body of water, I think, what if I throw my handbag in there? And hang on to it a bit more tightly.

If I have bare feet on the floor while I’m watching a horror movie, they’ll get attacked. Socks are fine.

Pigs. Creepy looking fuckers.

balalake · 02/03/2022 16:45

As a child I had a fear of apple pips. Would not eat apples unless cut up.

Potterbore · 02/03/2022 17:11

Spontaneous human combustion- I read a book when I was younger with just someone's feet after they had 'burnt' and I've spent years worrying that I'll spontaneously combust

EmergencyPoncho · 02/03/2022 17:30

I think finding dead bodies when dog walking, is often on early morning walks. I'm grateful my fluffy darling likes a lie in.

Going downstairs at night!
For some reason Ive always been terrified of leaving the bedroom and going down the stairs when its dark?
We have large french doors with curtains that we dont close overnight as our cat is a dick and climbs them. Im scared someone will be in the garden watching me!

We have a young baby so going downstairs at night is a frequent thing! Ive done it a few times now but will stand at the top of the staies and listen for a bit then go down slowly and do the same at the bottom before running to the kitchen to get a bottle and run back to bed.
Im a grown woman ffs.

@ToMockAKillingBird and a group of crows is a murder too..... Shock

Theunamedcat · 02/03/2022 20:22

Cows there is something not right about them

Books with faces on them I read a Michael Jackson autobiography years ago it had his eyes on the front I have a bad habit of reading on the toilet (most my family do tbh it's weird and I've not long found out most people DONT DO THIS) anyway I found it impossible to get off the toilet unless the book was upside down (eyes covered) and I had to do the same before I went to bed

BluesCluesToo · 02/03/2022 20:26

Horses. Too big. Worried they will speak to me. Terrifying.

PumpkinPie2016 · 02/03/2022 20:29

I am afraid of feather dusters Confused honestly can't stand them.

Balloons is another one - too squeaky and unpredictable.

Escalators!! I was terrified as a kid and still get nervous getting on them now. Ones in my local town aren't too bad but a couple of years ago, I went to London for the first time and used the underground-OMG, the escalators there were terrifying! So long!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 02/03/2022 20:31

If anyone but me takes my DC to the zoo I always have nightmares of them throwing them over the bear:lion/tiger enclosure.

Ridiculous I know.

I'm with you on this. I bet we read the same book as kids.

Also lava bombs. I have a fear of them landing on or around me. Which is silly because I don't like anywhere near a volcano.

Bermuda Triangle unnecessarily and irrationally worried me as a kid. Still does a bit if I'm honest!

BuddhaForMary · 02/03/2022 21:21

*live not like.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/03/2022 21:26

@youdoyoutoday The bath is definitely one that bothers me. 1litre of water = 1kg. So I always worry about the bath and I falling through the floor when I get in!

@allmysons I'm strangely glad to know it's not just me with this weird worry.

Once at work they were banging the soil in the grounds down with the scoop of a digger and it was making the whole school shake. I had to leave my classroom and go downstairs in case something happened!

Amnotamug · 02/03/2022 21:26

@NeverChange

Clowns.

I'm a fully grown adult but they freak the hell out of me. There is something so sinister about a grown man or women dressing up as a clown. It's a disguise. My mind goes straight to child abuse etc.

I know I sound batshit crazy but I can't get past it.

My son is 26 …he is absolutely terrified of clowns . We took him to a circus when he was three and we had to leave…he has never recovered from that 😂

This is why I never walk my dog in the countryside or woods ..am so scared that I will find something horrific!!
MistySkiesAfterRain · 02/03/2022 21:33

If its completely pitch black the fear is that I am going to see something.

WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 02/03/2022 21:41

My wardrobe doors must be closed at night in case I see a hand or some fingers poking out from behind them.

I also never look into mirrors during the night in case I see something unexpected in the reflection.

MissMaple82 · 02/03/2022 21:46

PonyPatter44 @ slug slime is really really difficult to get off

CanIJustHaveAWord · 02/03/2022 21:47

I'm not scared of flying but I am scared about landing. I get clammy hands, fast breathing and tearful but disguise it for the kids. Dh isn't afraid of flying but hates take off, gets clammy hands etc. we make a right pair Grin

Bibbitybobbityboo86 · 02/03/2022 21:51

For me it’s foxes dressed like humans- think foxy bingo - or the fox in Pinocchio.
I also don’t like humans wearing animal masks- like in wicker man.

I also have a weird fear of individual tall towers randomly on a hill where there is no other man made structure. It’s feels evil and like it’s watching me

Binjob118 · 02/03/2022 21:52

I'm convinced I'm going to get electrocuted to death every time I shower. The mixture of water and electricity has me rushing to get out asap!!

ilovepixie · 02/03/2022 21:53

Quicksand and monsters under the bed.

CanIJustHaveAWord · 02/03/2022 22:16

Terrified of hornets but not bees or wasps🤷🏼‍♀️

I remember that photo. Was an elderly persons house with an old comfy chair next to a three bar fire I think?

Seems like a lot of these can be traced back to childhood
