Is this one of those fake "I don't understand why people are/aren't doing x, y and z".
Masks aren't mandatory. A lot of people have finally realised how pointless they are. A few people still want to wear them to virtue signal. What is there left to understand?
Ah yes, those silly little virtue signallers.
I work in a care home for the elderly in the same small town I live in.
I've been accused many times over the last 2 years of being 'allowed' to kill the residents I care for with covid, in person and on social media as part of the industry, fielded furious relatives at the door because they've seen a care assistant in the takeaway and apparently that's irresponsible, or on the phone demanding to know which worker brought it in during an outbreak, and the phrase 'duty of care' has been worn out in the last two years the amount it's been bandied about in relation to care assistants and what we should and shouldn't be doing.
It doesn't matter much to me or them whether other people (or even me) think they work or not, people want to know the people caring for the vulnerable loved ones are trying to protect them however they can, even if that's a minimal thing that can be done.
We have also been told that our company would prefer us to wear one in the local shops and on public transport, because of the above reactions when covid has come into not just ours but other homes. It was an informal request and made clear that no concequences will come from the company by not doing it, but that if families see us out and about without them in shops and on public transport the reaction is likely to be negative, especially were we to have another outbreak.
And that's before you get to the fact I don't want to put the people I care for at risk any more than I have to, never mind my own reasons for not wanting it a 3rd time and the implications that has on me. I am ok wearing a mask, so I do, I don't understand why that should bother others so much?
I don't judge anyone not wearing one though, never have right through this, just because I can wear one doesn't mean everyone could or should.
So I'll keep wearing my virtue signal in shops and on public transport, and enclosed spaces with other people, Until we're no longer required to wear them at work.
