Has anyone refused to go back into the office?

Just that really. Have a job that can easily be done working from home. Company is now saying compulsory 3 days in the office. Has anyone just not gone in and carried on working from home? How did that turn out?

The majority of my department is insisting they are not going in. Can confirm they are serious because I went in to the office a couple days back and there was probably 10% of the people in.

Intrigued what my company will do. Fire us all?

@Whitefire

We don't all prove our work in numbers. In some work places it is obvious who isn't doing what they should.
Ah what a way to say you're a busybody with no proof
Whitefire · 09/03/2022 10:07

Yes exactly that. Hmm

Whitefire · 09/03/2022 10:19

There is a joke: Two workers were spotted by the side of the road, one was digging a hole and the second was filling it back up. A passerby asked them why they were doing that, the first worker replied "We're building a fence, I dig the hole, Bob's job is to put the fence posts in and Jim there fills the hole back in. Bob isn't here today."

In some situations it is obvious what isn't being done.

Notyourtypicalvirgo you said in your own words 'everyone is different' and yet you seem incapable of actually acknowledging this as you reduce people to stereotypes. You use the term 'Karen' in an attempt to keep women in their place. If you go on the feminism boards and use that term they'll tear you to shreds.
You refer to older men as oogling women half their age. If you had colleagues that were harassing people why didn't you speak to your line manager/HR? The men that I work with don't act in this way. If the people in your team really are this awful what makes them any better at their jobs/to work with because you don't actually have to see them in person.

I've only dipped into this thread so I'm not really even sure what point you're trying to prove, but what I have seen is you repeatedly trying to belittle people for having a differing point of view. It's not a good look.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/03/2022 11:28

You don't know that though unless you're their manager, honestly you want to be watched like a child that's your problem

I do know it when I'm getting their work as well as my own! I know when I'm the one working until 7pm to get mine and their work done and they are clearly offline.

I don't want to be watched like a child, I want people to pull their weight, do the job they are paid for and not leave it to other people.

MabelsApron · 09/03/2022 11:39

Don't be silly @PinkSparklyPussyCat - they're obviously logging in at 4am and doing all their work then. You're just imagining things. You can't possibly know your own workplace better than a random on the internet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/03/2022 11:50

I'm starting to wonder if it isn't just hitting a nerve ...

I wondered the same, Mabel - and I'm another who very much favours mybrid/WFH when it works for all

It's impossible to know on an anonymous forum, but in RL the person I know who yells loudest about lousy management, dinosaurs and all the rest was a particularly bad pisstaker who was rightly sacked

@Whitefire

No company will last long if they keep pushing for people to go to the office around peak times. Their key people will simply find employment somewhere else who offers flexibility.

Yes they will survive, not everyone wants to WFH full time. It may have been this thread or another I said it but again people have a very inflated sense of self worth. Pretty much everyone is replaceable and people will always be there to step into someone else's shoes.

This is not accurate in specialised roles.

We work agile (in our specialised area) so were hybrid pre-covid, but now the whole company is going hybrid when possible.

What you are going to see now is employess leaving employers who do not offer hybrid working as part of the contract.

You are welcome to stay in the office if you like. Nobody is stopping you from going to an employer who demands that.

Just don't be surprised when the company does less well vs competitors.

Talent and skill will flow to companies that offer employees the best benefits. Having to go into the office 5x/week is not a benefit.

No it's not, but it isn't the only factor. My most local counterpart company offers hybrid working, but as I said to a colleague it would be jumping from the frying pan into the volcano.

Why the feck do you allow that to happen? Are you a door mat?

I don't, it was dealt with. I'm still working longer hours than I should but it's to do my own job. Some posters probably think I'm a bitch for dealing with it though!

cravingthelook · 09/03/2022 20:20

We are being given the option of home, office or hybrid. I hybrid because that suits me. If you do 3 or more in office you get a desk. If you do less you will hot-desk.

Our company is great and relaxed and wants to ensure employees are comfortable. I'm pretty lucky, I know.

Rosebell75 · 10/03/2022 07:08

Notyourtypicalvirgo. Quite honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if your colleagues aren’t absolutely thrilled that you WFH permanently. You sound awful.

DottyHarmer · 10/03/2022 08:37

I agree. She says she’s on maternity leave: I bet a whoop went up when she revealed her happy news.

Calling colleagues “Karens” - really not a good look. I wonder what all her great team would think if they knew she was calling women this behind their backs.

Kirst26 · 10/03/2022 09:06

My employer has moved to hybrid working, 1 day a week in the office (totally up to us what day that is) but not doing it without an OH referral to confirm why not will result in disciplinary action.

marieantoinehairnet · 11/03/2022 19:37

Interesting our employee has said we only have to come in 2 days a week, middle boss is trying to find ways to make us come in for more days than that even though the firm itself doesn't want it. Why do some people do this!
