Where would you flee to if war came to us ?

Sorry really not wanting to sound alarmist. But just pondering on the thought of which country we could seek refuge in, should the worst happen?

Our European neighbours would be out, as they'll have their own issues.

So where could we go ? Interesting to think about with all that's going on and how the general public view refugees...

If it gets to that stage, I 100% want to be dead.

I think South American would be ideal but getting there and being allowed to stay may not be the easiest.

I have a good tent and a gas burner. We could always escape to Dartmoor and take our chances in nature. The problem is the pets. Ddog could come with us, but what to do with the Guinea pigs and geckos? This is the sad reality the people of Ukraine face I guess.

It isn't that easy to flee:

My grandfather's family (he was 7) left Russia in 1917. They couldn't go straight to England due to sponsorship issues. They had to take the route through China staying in India until 1921 when they were able to travel to England. Similarly my father was sent from Berlin to an aunt in Hamburg in early 1938 and reached England via Kinder Transport.

It's not quite as easy as booking tickets and packing a bag when it comes to it. Often the people leaving have to avoid mortal danger.

I totally respect that. I'm way too much of a coward to fight. I would escape of hide. 100 percent.

I live in an area heavily bombed in WW2 because of its strategic importance so I would leave here but assuming I couldn't get out of the country UK I would go to family in very rural Wales, there location would be of no interest to any invading forces at least not initially anyway.

I wouldn't flee. I'd be no good at fighting, but I'd be happy to be part of a resistance.

I wouldn't. I don't have any disposable income so I'd still be responsible for all my bills once everything settled down and I have too many different branches of family I wouldn't leave behind.

Dc have dual nationality so also have Cypriot passports. I know there are uk bases there in a very important strategic position but outside of those it's pretty much owned by Russia these days so perhaps safer than here

I won't flee. I will stay and fight. I lived through the Troubles and I'm not about to run away now. I've already decided I am staying, no matter what happens in the future.

I’d stay, too, as have nowhere to go.

I can’t see New Zealand taking us in, so say the “safest” place in a nuclear attack.

A few options - Scotland - in-laws live rurally. Wales - an uncle who lives rurally. Or my grandmother retains an Indian passport so we could try and get over there - how? I don’t know. Stay and fight.

Canada if I could get there, I have family there and even if they were also a target their house is better set up then I could be here , a generator , lots of land , lots of long life stored food and weapons.

Yeah you're right. It just crossed my mind that it would be really difficult to simultaneously be invading the whole of Europe and the USA as well.

Yeah, I agree. And I wouldn't be heading back to my hometown (Washington DC) for this very reason TBH if it had come down to such a drastic trip, I imagine we'd literally just be going as far as we could, and probably to the interior of the country.

If they go nuclear on the US, I think we can assume there won't be many places inhabitable for much longer after that. They would know their own country would never survive the retaliation so one would hope they wouldn't be so stupid, but at this point, who knows.

I would stay and fight but then I'm a red haired Scot so it's kind of in my nature plus I'm having a shit month so wouldn't take much to convince me to arm up.

I'd head to New Zealand where one of my parents is a citizen.

To be honest if it gets to the point that all NATO countries are being attacked by Russia then there’s almost certainly going to be some nuclear weapons involved. Russia is heavily militarised but doesn’t have an army that could successfully attack multiple countries at once. So if we’re at the point where Germany, France, US etc are all no-go countries because Russia is attacking them, then the whole world is probably fucked.

In which case I’d make my way to the most remote Scottish island that I could possibly find and try to set up camp and wait it out. But I imagine a lot of other people would have had similar ideas! And the nukes might still get us anyway.
