Do people use their hoover in the kitchen??

I had always not, as my mum doesnt. She says that you dont want food inside the hoover.

I've told dp off when hes suggested hoovering the kitchen, and got out the old brush instead.

But after seeing a video on facebook of someone hoovering their kitchen i wonder if its me thats strange? We eat in the living room so when i hoover in there, there are food crumbs so i suppose my argument is gone...

Mumsnet consenus, do you hoover the kitchen??

YABU - of course you hoover in the kitchen
YANBU - no way, you have to use a brush for the kitchen floor!

Told dp that I had done some research and it turns out that its totally fine to hoover the kitchen, and apologised for being wrong about it.

Mind is slightly blown about the overwhelming consensus about this, and im currently re-thinking everything ive been taught by my parents...!!

I tend to sweep. Sometimes I'll hoover the pile of sweeping as I find it's hard to get every last crumb in a dustpan but usually not

lupinlass · 25/02/2022 08:27

I hoover the patio! Grin. So much quicker than going to get the outside brush from the shed etc

I've recently hoovered up dog shit Envy. Now that was gross. It had blended in to a dark, patterned rug and I just didn't see it. That reminds me - I must empty the bag ....

LittleBearPad · 25/02/2022 20:17

@tulips27

Because you're rolling the hoover over food and the brushes, wheels and tools are getting covered in squashed food and crumbs that you then continue to spread across your house.
How filthy is your kitchen floor! You can pick up squashed food you know.

Crumbs aren’t that different to anywhere else in your house

@lupinlass
You poor thing! It did make me laugh though.

@tulips27 there’s something wrong if the hoover is spreading dirt rather than actually hoovering it up. You can hoover your hoover, or get a new one, or just carry on, but in real life maybe refrain from showing disgust at other people’s perfectly normal cleaning
routines.

That made me think of Monica

Though not twice!

@Daisydoesnt

Crikey OP I think that's bonkers. How much food did your mum used to have on the kitchen floor?!! Of course you vacuum, but if it's something wet & squishy on the floor surely you just pick it up with some kitchen towel and bung it in the bin?

It reminds me my parents always had this rule that you should never wash up the teapot, because you would never be able to get the suds of fairy liquid out of it. Isn't that bonkers too?!

My family didn't do the teapot/coffee pot in the sink with the washing up liquid, but they did rinse it. I do the same!
JustJam4Tea · 26/02/2022 06:13

Yes I’ve got the teapot not washing in the sink thing with the other dishes…which now I think about it is probably mad!

houserenohelp · 31/03/2022 07:13

I swept more in my old house before I had a cordless hover

Your mum probably swept daily rather than getting the hoover out

Better than using lots of electric haha

@limitedperiodonly where can we find your blog? Or do you have a youtube channel? The level of detail and style of delivery grabbed me even before you mentioned it was a condensed version.

Sidge · 31/03/2022 07:31

I hoover everything and hardly have any carpet in my house. My Shark is good on hard floors.

My MIL used to send FIL up into their loft twice a year to hoover it as it was carpeted. Now that’s bonkers.

WonderingWanda · 31/03/2022 07:52

@IsAnybodyListening

Yes! I even hoover the garden decking, so much quicker than sweeping!
I do this too, feels wrong hoovering outside but you can never get all the bits oytof the grooves with a broom!
