Do people use their hoover in the kitchen??

I had always not, as my mum doesnt. She says that you dont want food inside the hoover.

I've told dp off when hes suggested hoovering the kitchen, and got out the old brush instead.

But after seeing a video on facebook of someone hoovering their kitchen i wonder if its me thats strange? We eat in the living room so when i hoover in there, there are food crumbs so i suppose my argument is gone...

Mumsnet consenus, do you hoover the kitchen??

YABU - of course you hoover in the kitchen
YANBU - no way, you have to use a brush for the kitchen floor!

Yes I hoover the kitchen. But I also have a dog so crumbs on the floor (for longer than 3 seconds) is an unknown concept here.

MissMaple82 · 24/02/2022 16:20

Always hoovered the kitchen. First I sweep, then I hoover

I hoover the kitchen before giving it a mop.
Tbh there’s more food on the dining room carpet than the kitchen and that gets hoovered!

Eightiesfan · 24/02/2022 16:51

I normally use a broom and dustpan but I also have a cordless which I only use in the kitchen and dining room to pick left over crumbs. It leaves the floor clearer than using broom. Plus as we chose amtico flooring I can no longer use a steam mop so I also have an old school mop and bucket!

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/02/2022 16:55

Hoover here, they are 2 labs, unless its dust.

hazyjinty01 · 24/02/2022 17:02

Not only do I Hoover the kitchen I've been known to use the tools on the stove top rather than wiping the crumbs in tbe floor (glares at son who gets pizza crumbs all over the stove)

IsItTooHotInHere · 24/02/2022 17:10

YABU I vacuum my kitchen (tiled) when I do everywhere else (laminate) downstairs. Then I use a steam mop all over every floor

phoenixrosehere · 24/02/2022 18:50

I would never hoover the kitchen. Eww, gross! Sweep with broom and mop.

How is sweeping with a broom any cleaner?

hiredandsqueak · 24/02/2022 19:08

Have a robovac so that does the whole of the downstairs each morning. I occasionally use a dustpan and brush later in the day or sometimes I get out the Gtech as I go for the quickest option.

@ChatterMonkey

I think the consensus is that we need a dog!
My dog is too lazy or snobby for actual crumbs AND she's a Labrador
tulips27 · 24/02/2022 19:37

Eugh, hoovering the kitchen is totally unsanitary. Your Mum was right!

StoneofDestiny · 24/02/2022 19:37

Can't imagine not hoovering the kitchen floor. Most hoovers adjust easily between soft and hard floors and unless you have slopped a 3 course meal on the floor, there is no reason not to use a hoover - it's just a spinning brush after all.

SheAndHerAreWomen · 24/02/2022 19:45

To all of you that say you can't sweep as the dog hair flies everywhere - you need a 'swiffer' in your life! I think it's proper name is a floor duster, but all the hair and fluff stick to it and then you just pop out to the garden and brush it off with a normal dustpan sized brush. I got mine from Dunelm and it's fab (I do also hoover the kitchen though) Grin

Please explain why it’s unsanitary.
Phormiumjester · 24/02/2022 20:45

I don't need the inside of my hoover to be sanitary! It's literally its job to swallow dirt!

LubaLuca · 24/02/2022 20:54

My hoover gets full of cat hair, human hair, the dead skin of 6 beings... It's not breadcrumbs and the odd Rice Krispie that make it unhygienic. Also hoovers are designed in such a way that you don't come into contact with whatever it sucks up, so it doesn't matter if some of the crud isn't sterile.

LimeSegment · 24/02/2022 21:08

Sorry but Confused at pp who vacummed spilled milk on the regular and ruined multiple vaccums doing this? And couldn't figure out why they were breaking? ConfusedConfusedConfused Thats the most bonkers thing I've read on here.

tulips27 · 24/02/2022 21:11

Because you're rolling the hoover over food and the brushes, wheels and tools are getting covered in squashed food and crumbs that you then continue to spread across your house.

ISmellBurnings · 24/02/2022 21:39

Our eufy and handheld battery shark have small dust areas so get emptied every few days max. The larger Miele has bags that obviously fill and get emptied every few months

I have all 3 of these too. Are you me? Grin

OverByYer · 24/02/2022 22:19

I not only hoover my kitchen floor but use the nozzle to hoover my bread board and toaster

HardStareBear · 24/02/2022 22:24

As a teenager, I hoovered up an entire bag of frozen peas. I wouldn't recommend that. Crumbs and fluff? Crack on.

Notwithittoday · 24/02/2022 22:25

I Hoover the kitchen twice a day

PukkaP · 24/02/2022 22:28

I've never hoovered the kitchen. I sweep and mop

lisaandalan · 24/02/2022 23:02
