AIBU to be so proud DS got in to Griffindor?

DS has been at a Harry Potter themed club camp all weekend.

They did the Sorting Hat and he got picked for Griffindor.

It was randomly picked out of a “hat” (or Lidl carrier bag if you listen to DS) so it wasn’t like they put all the little shits in Slytherin but I was so proud when I picked him up.

DS has done many eye rolls and told me it was random and Lidl carrier bags don’t have magical powers but WIBU to give a smug side eye to the Hufflepuff parents at pick up whilst feeling like he just got into Oxbridge? I’d have settled for Ravenclaw at a push.

I am a grown woman with a job. I’m not even a big HP fan (though I fucking love JKR for standing up for women’s rights)

This is quite light hearted but a secret bit of me is still “Ah yes… destined for greatness my DS..the Lidl carrier bag knows all”

DS thinks I’ve gone mad but I’m still very proud of his obvious Griffindor traits abs feeling like I’ve done great parenting that the Lidl bag can clearly sense.

I crocheted dd a hufflepuff scarf for Christmas which she loved, until she realised that Luna Lovegood is not hufflepuff! But thankfully instead of insisting she is ravenclaw, she’s just decided that the hat got it wrong and Luna is actually hufflepuff.

Hardcore Slytherin, here. I suspect DP would be Ravenclaw, but he has proven extremely uninterested in the topic. Grin

I feel like I've stumbled into a strange world.
Have never read, or seen any HP films and really don't get the obsession with them.

@MeropeRiddle

Myself, DH, DD and DS2 are Slytherins. DS1 is a Hufflepuff but we don't talk about that. 😬

You know on a side note, I do hate the 'all Slytherins are assholes' mentality. Not all Slytherins are bad and not all Gryffindors are good. 🤔

Ok Narcissa Smile

@BlackeyedSusan

Hufflepuff are loyal and hardworking. They are very good qualities to have.

Even some Slytherins turned out ok. (Snape)

Did he turn out ok? I’d say maybe Regulus did. Slughorn was alright, except being a bit weak willed and annoying. I thought Snape was still an utter dick despite fancying Harry’s mum.

My dd would go mad for this camp. Being sorted from the magical Lidl bag would be right up her street.

If I was in HP land I would be in ravenclaw, DC would be the same. That is clearly the best house.

As the books progress I think the message comes through that gryffindor isn't all that and it was wrong to idolise it in the beginning and that gryffindors have some serious character flaws too...and it just reinforces the idea that everyone's good traits are all equally important. IMO gryffindor is not the ideal by the end....courage alone is clearly not enough and HP and his mates need to develop their characters more deeply than that to make it through...
Gosh I love HP - foundations of my childhood

ukborn · 21/02/2022 09:27

Well as it was random not sure what you have to be smug about and maybe a bit too much invested in it - even your child seems to think you are being unreasonable! I'm not a Potter fan though so maybe don't understand the significance!

It's just a bit of fun.

I'm smug about my Ravenclaw. I also have the most wonderful little squib (no interest in Harry Potter whatsoever).
