AIBU to be so proud DS got in to Griffindor?

DS has been at a Harry Potter themed club camp all weekend.

They did the Sorting Hat and he got picked for Griffindor.

It was randomly picked out of a “hat” (or Lidl carrier bag if you listen to DS) so it wasn’t like they put all the little shits in Slytherin but I was so proud when I picked him up.

DS has done many eye rolls and told me it was random and Lidl carrier bags don’t have magical powers but WIBU to give a smug side eye to the Hufflepuff parents at pick up whilst feeling like he just got into Oxbridge? I’d have settled for Ravenclaw at a push.

I am a grown woman with a job. I’m not even a big HP fan (though I fucking love JKR for standing up for women’s rights)

This is quite light hearted but a secret bit of me is still “Ah yes… destined for greatness my DS..the Lidl carrier bag knows all”

DS thinks I’ve gone mad but I’m still very proud of his obvious Griffindor traits abs feeling like I’ve done great parenting that the Lidl bag can clearly sense.

YABU they're just glory hunters, and foolhardy with it. I'd be worried if mine got into Griffindor Wink

Grin

Ds and I are fans.

I'm in gryffindor and he's in hufflepuff as he reliably informed me 🤷‍♀️🤣

Dd is teaching English on a Harry Potter themed holiday camp from next weekend. She says they have a Sorting Hat that moves and all the kids will be sorted into houses at the start. She has to be called Hermione all week and is very excited.

Meandthesky · 20/02/2022 19:03

@IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors did they end up evenly distributed? I’d be worried that they would all want the same one or two and we’d end up with unbalanced teams! We normally pre plan the groups, although I can see randomly drawing them would add to the HP magic

catgirl1976 · 20/02/2022 19:05

Ooh the moving sorting hat sounds amazing!

@Giraffesandbottoms

Why was there a house in existence just for bellends?
YES! This has always been my problem with the Potterverse. IRL you just wouldn't sort all the bellends into one house, it would be carnage.
TheGoogleMum · 20/02/2022 19:08

I think gryffindor is overrated but it's cute you're proud over it

ladydimitrescu · 20/02/2022 19:15

I'm a slytherin and I think you're all house-ist Envy

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/02/2022 19:18

I'd be gutted to be Gryffindor!

Slithering 4 Eva. Like Merlin.

Joiq · 20/02/2022 19:20

🐍🐍🐍 team slytherin

Rewritethestars1 · 20/02/2022 19:20

How dare you all speak of slytherin in this way. Fools.

Hunderland · 20/02/2022 19:21

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

YABU. Ravenclaw for the win.
^^ this Wink
Rewritethestars1 · 20/02/2022 19:22

My 2 dds and dh are griffindor. I'm the only slytherin in our house and it shows.

justasoul · 20/02/2022 19:22

YANBU to be proud but Ravenclaw is clearly the Oxbridge of Hogwarts Grin

justasoul · 20/02/2022 19:23

(DD and I are Ravenclaws. DH thinks we’re bonkers)

Fireworksatforty · 20/02/2022 19:23

I'm a ravenclaw, ds1 is a griffindor and ds2 is a hufflepuff.
DH thinks we're all batshit. Grin

catgirl1976 · 20/02/2022 19:23

All these Slytherins!! I always felt
It was like Eton - for the well connected who will go far in life but at the expense of others if needs be

catgirl1976 · 20/02/2022 19:24

I’ll agree Ravenclaw is Oxbridge. But Griffindor is still a good Russell group with excellent sporting credentials 🤣

@Giraffesandbottoms

Why was there a house in existence just for bellends?
Haha in my opinion that’s Gryiffindor! Insufferable, arrogant, hard of thinking (no, Hermionie shouldn’t have been there), pampered, spoilt, reckless… I do not understand the adoration at all!
oakleaffy · 20/02/2022 19:45

@catgirl1976

Ha *@IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors*. I wonder if all the little Slytherin fans will be the politicians of tomorrow
I don't follow Harry Potter, but 'Slytherin' sounds so much like a Tory. Especially a skinny one like Reece Jones.
IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors · 20/02/2022 19:53

I married a Hufflepuff.

IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors · 20/02/2022 19:56

@Meandthesky - we'd kind of foreseen the likelihood of unbalanced 'houses', so were prepared for say, three teams of Gryffindors. What we hadn't anticipated was 2 teams of Slytherins. The camp was held in a safe Tory seat, though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2022 19:57

I have to say I was absolutely astounded when I learned that some people choose to be Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or even Slytherin rather than Gryffindor. I was so immersed in HP for years when my children were little and we read each new one as they came out that I took it as read that Gryffindor was the best house. Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff were OK but I'd have been sad to have been sorted to one of those instead of Gryffindor even though I have none of the requisite personal qualities to be a Gryffindor. As for the idea of being a Slytherin ... Shock

RightOnTheEdge · 20/02/2022 20:03

That sounds like a brilliant club camp!

Dilemma22 · 20/02/2022 20:08

Oh man my little one would live a HP themed camp!!
