To think oven chips always take far longer to cook than it says on the pack

Why is this? Or AIBU and everyone else has them underdone?

@BarbaraofSeville

It's because of the acrylamide. They're not allowed to tell people to have chips fully cooked because properly cooked nicely browned chips contain more acrylamide, which causes cancer.

So they give instructions that don't cook the chips enough and we can all pretend to follow them.

Similar with appliances, if your dishwasher or tumble drier dried properly on a standard setting, the eco rating would be horrendous. So they don't dry properly on the standard setting, but you can change the settings to add an extra dry function.

I have Googled and am now scared of chips

Thanks for all of these replies and thanks APurpleSquirrel about those trays they seem budget friendly. Air fryers do sound amazing though.

I do preheat the oven but maybe for 5 minutes or so, perhaps it isn't long enough. Interesting (and worrying) that cooked chips might be dangerous BarbaraofSeville

Apologies to anyone now fancying chips after all the talk of them Grin

As others have said air fryer is a game changer. We have ninja foodi don't use the oven or grill anymore. We also make stews and curries in there. Best thing we have ever bought for our kitchen. We use it every day.

So is the foodi better than the standard ninja air fryer? Because I've been considering an AF for so long but there is just so much choice. At one point I'd settled on the ninja duo but then changed my mind again when I've seen the types that have rotisserie's etc

@liveforsummer it depends on what you want to use it for. We just wanted the variety of functions. Air-frying being on of them.
the grill is super hot. Baking cooks things evenly. DD had salmon tonight. Baked for 12 mins then grill for 3 for crispy skin. We bought the older model that still needs a lid change for the pressure cooking side so slightly faffy. We cook rice/curries/stews on the pressure cooking side. The new one is under one lid. We love our foodi and it's made life in the kitchen alot easier.

Yes! It’s something DH and I always disagree on.
