AIBU to be a little annoyed that the computer shop watched a series on my laptop?

A couple of weeks ago I spilt a drink over my laptop. I dropped it into a computer repair shop. I collected it yesterday. They had asked for my password to access the laptop (it wouldn't turn on when I dropped it in).
When I collected it, the man showed that it was working and my browser opened up which has pages which open up automatically. I was a little concerned as 2 of the pages are my email accounts, one of which I use for day to day stuff and the other which I use for work related emails and financial emails. Nothing too traumatic that they might have found but they would have automatically been logged in and the other pages that automatically opens up are Facebook and Amazon.
However, today, I was looking for something to watch on Amazon Prime and found a series. Every episode has been watched.

AIBU to be fucking peeved that these fuckers obviously used my Prime account to watch a series?
It's one of these little phone/computer shops. Not a chain or anything.
I'm trying not to be annoyed and to tell myself that no harm was done and at least if they were watching some programmes (12 episodes), then they probably were not snooping through my emails.

I would be furious about that and I'd certainly go in and complain.

Sofiegiraffe · 19/02/2022 19:56

This is really weird and inappropriate. Are you sure it was them? Is there anyone else (family member / friend) who has access to your Prime account?

JetTail · 19/02/2022 19:57

Well I am furious but I am sick to death of complaining about stuff and nothing ever getting done about it. They'll deny it. And what can I do? It's not as if it's a crime really.

Nobody but me has access to my account.

I wouldn't be overly bothered about it tbh.

Sparklesocks · 19/02/2022 19:58

I was initially going to suggest they tried opening one ep just at random to check your speakers/screen etc were working ok. But a whole series, blimey! How long did they have it for to get through 12 eps??

JetTail · 19/02/2022 19:59

They called me late Wednesday afternoon to say that it was ready for collection. I collected it Friday at about 11am.

I don't know whether they have watched anything else. It just happened that I picked this series and every episode was showing as watched. It shows up in blue when it has been watched.

This.

I think your over reacting. Like you said, no harm was done.

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:03

I was hoping actually that you would tell me to chill the hell out. No harm done that I know of. Thankfully my bank accounts have 2 step verification.

I was unsure about trusting these sorts of shops as I really don't trust them at all. Mainly because a similar outfit tried to swindle me before.

LubaLuca · 19/02/2022 20:05

I wouldn't be bothered about that either. It's no loss to you.

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:08

It's more the principle of it that is annoying me.

This is unprofessional and unethical. You provide your password for a very limited aim, to get your device fixed, not as a free pass to then use your device for their own benefit. They need to understand unequivocally that this is not on. What other liberties would they feel free taking?

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:08

They did charge me £120 quid though. It does make me wonder whether that was utterly overpriced also.

100% - this!

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:11

They could have installed any sort of malware onto my laptop. If they're that dishonest, why not?

Soul11Soul · 19/02/2022 20:11

I don't think you are being unreasonable. It was a breach of trust. I'm just wondering what you could have done to stop this from happening. I know on some things I can log out on all devices but I'm not sure if you can do it with Amazon etc.

Kshhuxnxk · 19/02/2022 20:11

They'd need to keep it running to make sure it was working so playing a programme would have been the easiest option?

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:12

I just don't think that complaining would get me anywhere. It's one of those sort of family owned small businesses.

Twelve 1 hour episodes? Give me a break. I'm not that thick.

I think it is very unprofessional. I would mention it - 'just checked on my laptop and it looks like someone has used my Amazon prime to watch a series while it was in your shop - I'm sure you'll want to check this out so it doesn't happen again'

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:15

I'm not that calm Bobby lol. If I am going to complain, I'll kick up a stink. It's so fucking annoying to think some bastard has been snooping through your laptop.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 19/02/2022 20:16

Yes 'no harm done'.

But its massively unprofessional and unethical and doesnt excuse poor behaviour. If I'm babysitting and go up to the parents room and rifle through their stuff, no harm done. Doesn't mean it's ok if it's someone you know. And it if someone you've paid to do a professional job, its shit. Who knows what else they've looked through

Smileyaxolotl1 · 19/02/2022 20:16

Yanbu - there’s a big difference between watching 5 minutes of YouTube or iplayer to check all is working and watching a whole series on a subscription format.
