AIBU to be a little annoyed that the computer shop watched a series on my laptop?

A couple of weeks ago I spilt a drink over my laptop. I dropped it into a computer repair shop. I collected it yesterday. They had asked for my password to access the laptop (it wouldn't turn on when I dropped it in).
When I collected it, the man showed that it was working and my browser opened up which has pages which open up automatically. I was a little concerned as 2 of the pages are my email accounts, one of which I use for day to day stuff and the other which I use for work related emails and financial emails. Nothing too traumatic that they might have found but they would have automatically been logged in and the other pages that automatically opens up are Facebook and Amazon.
However, today, I was looking for something to watch on Amazon Prime and found a series. Every episode has been watched.

AIBU to be fucking peeved that these fuckers obviously used my Prime account to watch a series?
It's one of these little phone/computer shops. Not a chain or anything.
I'm trying not to be annoyed and to tell myself that no harm was done and at least if they were watching some programmes (12 episodes), then they probably were not snooping through my emails.

I think there’s a way in your Amazon account settings to view your watch history, that should confirm for sure they were watched in the period that the laptop was with them. And yes, I would complain.

Lindy2 · 19/02/2022 20:18

Have they fixed it ok?

That would be my main priority. The use of your laptop up watch a series is pretty cheeky but I couldn't get furious about it. It hasn't cost you anything extra or caused you any loss. They saw an opportunity and took it which was a bit naughty but it wasn't really any detriment to you.

If you want to be able to potentially use the shop for repairs again it's probably wise to let it go.

MrsTophamHat · 19/02/2022 20:19

Hmm, can you be sire it was them?

Last year, we kept finding my husband's netflix set to foreign dubbing and series' in his Continue Watching that he hadn't watched and his algorithm was knackered. Mostl likely explanation was that he had been hacked. Has been fine since we changed passwords.

Legodout · 19/02/2022 20:21

You can narrow it down to the date by going to Prime Video, click on the cog (top right), settings, then watch history.

Darbs76 · 19/02/2022 20:21

I don’t think I’d be bothered by that. Obviously if they have bought stuff with my amazon account etc that’s different but I wouldn’t really care that they’d watched a series no

RedWingBoots · 19/02/2022 20:21

@JetTail

I just don't think that complaining would get me anywhere. It's one of those sort of family owned small businesses.
Lots of businesses of all sizes are on Google so you can leave a review of them.

For 80% of businesses I put a positive review as their service is excellent or very good. For about 15% I don't put any review as their service is simply mediocre. For 5% who are discriminatory or things go missing in their care, I put a detailed negative review.

Yes they know who you are, though some try to pretend if you have multiple email accounts that you weren't a customer.

Sofiegiraffe · 19/02/2022 20:24

@DrinkFeckArseBrick

Yes 'no harm done'.

But its massively unprofessional and unethical and doesnt excuse poor behaviour. If I'm babysitting and go up to the parents room and rifle through their stuff, no harm done. Doesn't mean it's ok if it's someone you know. And it if someone you've paid to do a professional job, its shit. Who knows what else they've looked through

Completely agree
chiiipsandsalad · 19/02/2022 20:26

I think it's a bit cheeky but wouldn't be overly fussed.
It hasn't cost you money or used credits for something, or worn down your device. It's just cheeky and unprofessional.

On the other hand, I saw a meme once that was written by someone who had put their car in for its MOT and she saw it with the mechanics inside going to McDonald's drive thru

terriblyangryattimes · 19/02/2022 20:28

I can't be the only person who wants to know which show it was?

Sammysquiz · 19/02/2022 20:28

I would be worried that if they were that unprofessional, god knows what else they’ve been up to on there. As said by a previous poster, look at the dates they were watched. Then you can screen-shot it and send it to the company.

Bournetilly · 19/02/2022 20:30

YANBU.
Like you say though nothing will probably be done if you complain. Could you leave them a bad review instead?

JetTail · 19/02/2022 20:30

@Legodout

You can narrow it down to the date by going to Prime Video, click on the cog (top right), settings, then watch history.
That's strange, I've just done that and it's only showing the two episodes I've watched now today as being watched. But you could see when I went into the series, that every episode had been watched. I was wondering whether it had been something I might have watched previously but I actually rarely watch series, just films and since I've been watching, I certainly have not seen it before.

You can check your watch history, that'll tell you what your account has watched and when - theres some ways to find it here

I can't be the only person who wants to know which show it was?
It's The Looming Tower. It's about the CIA/FBI sharing/not-sharing info pre 9/11.

It's working, but my speakers won't work now (bluetooth) and the keyboard is really sticky as it was a sugary drink I spilled on it.

It could have cost OP something. Amazon says that if you cancel your Prime subscription, it may refund you for your most recent payment based on how much of the Prime services you've used since your last payment. If OP was intending to cancel this subscription, she could have lost out a little on the refund. Not a lot of money at play, but the possibility of some.

I agree that it's not really about the money. It's about the violation. It's the same feeling like if someone walked into your house and moved everything a few cm.

Hankunamatata · 19/02/2022 20:33

Wouldn't have bothered me

Namensandurung · 19/02/2022 20:39

Is your password as it was before OP? You haven't had any password reminders by email have you? They may not have watched the series on your laptop but rather used your open email address to reset the password to use on another device. This sounds really far fetched but I know of sky installer who is an idiot and thinks its big to brag about setting up Netflix during installs and then using the email addresses and passwords on his own devices. Hopefully not the case for you.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 19/02/2022 20:40

What series was it?

DGRossetti · 19/02/2022 20:42

Any half decent repair shop would not have needed a password to access the machine.

It goes downhill from there, really.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 19/02/2022 20:42

Wait they sent it back with the keyboard sticky?

That would annoy me more than anything else.

Hairyfriend · 19/02/2022 20:45

I hope you've changed your passwords including those to the prime account?

Where they a series you need to pay extra for, or included in the account?

If you could check the dates they were viewed, and it was indeed them, I'd put together an invoice for the cost of the prime for those days and send it to the shop. I'd also write a letter to the manager/family members or whoever owns the shop. Its unprofessional and I'd never use or recommend them. If you have no reply from a complaint, I'd go into twitter or a review site to complain.

Bootikin · 19/02/2022 21:18

Leave a shitty review on Google Maps. Sorted. Little bastards!

CaptSkippy · 19/02/2022 21:44

OP, you should leave them a couple of scathing reviews. They should have fixed those sticky keys and checked the bluetooth as well. Them watching shows on your laptop is beyond unprofessional.

Companies are very sensitive to reviews these days. I frequently get asked to leave good reviews which I think is cheeky, but I don't mind leaving bad reviews if the service is really poor.

JetTail · 19/02/2022 22:00

I think a review on the local facebook page might be the best. Small suburb of London.
