To find storm triggers horrible lockdown memories?

GrendelsGrandma · 18/02/2022 14:59

It's only a few hours in with the kids but I've found it really, really difficult.

Aibu to think I have pent-up lockdown rage left over that's been triggered by all this? I'm fine with the kids when we can do something, being shut up indoors with no say about it has made me feel disproportionately gloomy and angry! Anyone else?

Yes, definite PTSD. I'm with you. 🤝

Rainallnight · 18/02/2022 15:30

Yes, most definitely.

Florencenotflo · 18/02/2022 15:41

I find being unable to go out with the kids now really stressful. Either days when DH needs the car and we are very limited on what we can do or where we can go on foot. Or days like today where it's just not safe to go out, I struggle.

I'm looking at possibly being in all weekend due to weather and having no car, I can already feel myself getting stressed out by it.

ComDummings · 18/02/2022 15:43

I know what you mean

ACNHlife · 18/02/2022 15:43

I actually enjoy being indoors with my kids a lot more since lockdown. But then in lockdown I ditched the hand wringing qnd pearl clutching about screens and devices and just accepted there are some days when it's ok to spend 8 hours in your PJ'S watching cartoons.

Notlostjustexploring · 18/02/2022 15:45

Yup.

Despite the fact that the weather isn't too bad here now and the kids are actually quite tired and as a result chilled out and I've taken annual leave from work to cover so I'm not doing any juggling I still feel REALLY FUCKING STRESSED.

(Actually, if I were to examine my feelings properly, it's probably more like tearful, panicky and anxious...)

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 18/02/2022 15:46

There’s nothing cosier than sheltering from a storm !

LostThePot · 18/02/2022 15:47

I’ve felt like this today. Trying to wfh and get the kids to do their online learning has made me feel so panicked.

I’ve had to ask my DH to get wine on his way home Grin

GrendelsGrandma · 18/02/2022 15:48

I'd spend all day in PJ's with screens if I could, I have a toddler who gets antsy after half an hour or so.

I do find it a bit odd that people on MN seem to struggle to stay indoors with their kids even for one day, I’ve noticed it a lot on here irl I don’t know anyone that insists taking their kids out every single day. It’s ok to stay indoors sometimes!

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 18/02/2022 15:51

Huh, interesting post. I've been irrationality stressed/grumpy/being a cow today. my DH keeps asking what's wrong and I just don't know. I wonder if it is a post lockdown reaction.

Cheekypeach · 18/02/2022 15:51

I was trying to work out earlier why being inside for 1 day is bothering me so much, to the point I feel slightly panicky. You’ve hit the nail on the head.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 18/02/2022 15:52

Ps I love being indoors with the kids but I think it's being told to stay indoors again!

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 18/02/2022 15:53

Yes definitely. I feel like I’ve had a ptsd type response today, especially when BoJo was quoted on the radio asking people to stay at home

Comedycook · 18/02/2022 15:53

Dh WFH and kids on school holidays makes me so fucking miserable. They're all lovely. It's me. I cannot bear it...reminds me of lockdown

@redcandyapple I find it a bit odd that you can't read my op in which I say I know it's only a few hours indoors but I feel awful and wonder if it's a delayed lockdown response

It's not about not going out, it's about not being able to go out. Different things

I believe strongly that children need to have nice indoor hobbies for rainy days.

The ability to occupy yourself quietly is actually a really essential skill for all of us.

Exactly, it’s not just this thread it’s constant threads on mn where people are distressed at spending one day in the house! I can’t imagine going out every single day kids should sometimes have chilled days at home!
mumda · 18/02/2022 16:02

@GrendelsGrandma Today's probably a play fort day or making an indoor treasure hunt.

Pickingyournoseattrafficlights · 18/02/2022 16:03

Yes OP, I am totally with you. Any enforced day indoors takes me right back to lockdown 1 and all the feelings that comes with. Having said that, lockdown 1 saw me with a newborn and I think I'd prefer that today than a boisterous toddler who is actually climbing the walls!

Justbecause88 · 18/02/2022 16:03

OP, anyone who suggests staying inside shouldn't be difficult clearly has fairly easy going kids. I also have a toddler who needs to be busy and get out at least once usually twice a day. I have also had a bad day with lockdown flashbacks!!

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2022 16:03

I get what you mean. I was disappointed that half term plan was cancelled and we couldn’t go out, but it’s not too bad.

However I’m relieved it’s not a switch to ‘home learning’ as I don’t want to see that again.
