He should have resigned. They should have made him. Instead they’ve kicked it all into the long grass of a shitty unpublishable enquiry, and then kicked that into the long grass of a corrupt police enquiry and are attempting to cover it all with bluster and shite on the world stage, posturing about like bad actors. And playing upto to the crowd by removing restrictions to distract. It’s so so fucking depressing. Is anyone actually falling for it? It feels like nothing matters anymore.

And then the billions wasted on Cronyism, corruption, post office and PPE. Letting our energy bills go up when in other countries the energy companies have paid. Councils cut to the bone everywhere. Libraries closed. Town centres desolate. Folk not being able to buy houses, afford to live. But bankers bonus’s at a high again. I just feel desperately sad.

Labour don’t seem to have any policies apart from “Not Tory”

For balance the tories rely heavily on this tactic in reverse frequently too.

trippinglyonthetongue · 17/02/2022 13:33

@OMG12

The trouble is Labour. I’m historically a swing voter, in my time I’ve voted, green, Lib Dem, labour, Tory.

Labour don’t seem to have any policies apart from “Not Tory” and dissing anyone who earns over the minimum wage, with Corbyn it started off again being Citizen Smith in the corner of the 6th form common room and Starmer just hadn’t done enough to rid that image. Lammie and Angela raynor are key reasons for this.

They aren’t appealing to people who don’t have a pile of socialist worker on the book selves. They want to change everyone to their way of thinking which has limited appeal rather than understanding what the majority electorate want and setting out realistic and achievable ways this will be done.

As much as I hate the actions of tories re parties etc, I think they have done ok re the pandemic, fuel prices need more attention but overall, Labour just don’t inspire the confidence they need to get my vote.

Where have you got this 'information' from because it has no resemblance to the things I hear Labour MPs, including those you name, saying when they are interviewed. Why just say this when it's utter bollocks? Why?

I think the truth is revealed when we get to your final paragraph about the Tories 'doing ok'. If you're a Tory, say you're a Tory. Don't try to excuse it by saying shit about Labour that's just not true. Own it - you're a Tory.

Teamill · 17/02/2022 13:43

I'm past caring about the parties but I care about the lying - 'there were no parties'...... I can't understand why anyone would find this acceptable in our leader.

However I fully support the stopping of all restrictions. It's time.

Mumoblue · 17/02/2022 13:45

YANBU. It disgusting.

And after over a decade, the constant Tory refrain of “Labour would be worse just trust me bro” is wearing fucking thin indeed.

CorrBlimeyGG · 17/02/2022 13:46

This is crap. If anything, Starmer's Labour appeals more to a middle ground than a leftie. I know many old school Tories who would vote for Starmer over Johnson, they see him as more representative of their values. In contrast, there are lifelong Labour voters that will not vote for Starmer.

Who knows where we'll be by the next election!

BellatricksStrange · 17/02/2022 14:16

For what it's worth I agree that BJ should have resigned. But you're conflating your anger and frustration at a bunch of things, most of which the government has no control over, into this one incident. Even if BJ had resigned, all the other problems you mentioned would still have been there.

brown bankrupted us leaving a note saying there is no money left.

Oh for goodness sake. You can't really believe this?

Unfortunately the note bit’s correct.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/may/09/liam-byrne-apology-letter-there-is-no-money-labour-general-election

But Brown most definitely didn’t bankrupt the country, he left it in far better economic shape than it is now.

SafeMove · 17/02/2022 14:24

The 'Labour have no policies/an unelectable leader/are all terrifying communists' script is wearing really thin now. It isn't true and it is used by Tories and their voters to retain a power that is about damaging people. If a party, a journalist or a voter wants to damage people (financially, emotionally or in the case of Covid decisions, physically) because it suits their position then that is their choice to deal with, but adding on this layer of gaslighting with lies about bankrupting the country, terrorist sympathisers and Jimmy Savile is galling. People want to protect themselves, their money, their ego and their position at the cost of someone else, we get it, but don't slander other people on top of it. Come on.

It is also very very boring to read on every thread about politics and has been unpicked and fact checked to death by anyone who reads around politics.

It's the only bit that's correct, and it was supposed to be part of a running joke.

Liondolphin · 17/02/2022 14:34

I agree wholeheartedly OP and am utterly depressed by it. And hopeless, but we do have some power…

Can we all, whatever our political views, promise to do the following at the next election:

  • go directly to the parties themselves to see what their policies are.
  • listen directly to the party members to hear what they say.
  • take everything in the mainstream and social media as biased opinion - unless backed up by very solid evidence.
  • think about the long term view, future generations and society as a whole, not just our personal situation.
  • vote vote vote. Even a spoiled ballot is better than not voting. It’s an expressed opinion.

I’m also going to keep writing to my MP about the clear corruption and lack of integrity in the Government at every opportunity it arises and sign the petitions that I believe will change society for the better. If we don’t make our voices heard it won’t change for sure. If we do, it might?

SpringRainbow · 17/02/2022 14:37

I am amazed that Boris made it past 2019, but it seriously feels like he is untouchable.

People who I know who were furious with him over the parties are now singing his praises because he is lifting testing and isolation.

So yes, for some people his strategy is working.

I have just given up, I knew he would resign, I knew the investigation would lead nowhere, and I knew people would forgive and/ or forget.

I know you started this thread, but, honestly, move away from it. What have you got from it but more depressed? You haven't learned anything new. It's just the same people repeating the same stuff. @Louisianagumbo is exactly right. Take a break and then do your research at the next local/general election when you can effect change.

I’ve understood that this is a treasury tradition of sorts whereby the outgoing minister leaves a note for the new incoming minister, started by a Tory no less.

Heavily biased link warning but it’s a pretty good write up on it anotherangryvoice.blogspot.com/2015/05/theres-no-money-left-argument.html?m=1.

Given the tories love of spin I’m inclined to believe that they saw an opportunity to exploit the general publics ignorance about mundane parliamentary traditions knowing that context is everything.

Nightly stroll and others. I do wholeheartedly agree with you.

He has not been held accountable and has manage to wissel his way out of it. The plan was to lose the momentum building against him and for this to be old news that no one talks about anymore. It's working.

kittensinthekitchen · 17/02/2022 16:51

Boris Johnson made it illegal for us plebs to see loved ones, whilst he was pissing it up in Downing Street with anyone he'd ever met.

Keir Starmer is boring, and hasn't fixed the world's problems whilst not being in Government.

Anyone who thinks those two are anywhere near equal has a screw loose.

Well I think meh cos I can see that it doesn't matter which party is governing its the same shite different colour.

I'd rather enjoy life doing things that make me happy because no matter what party gets in they won't do the right things.

Not going to waste my time or energy getting angry about it. It doesn't gain or benefit me in any way.
