To fucking hate Nicholas Witchell?

When is this awful man going to remove himself from backsides of people who work at Buckingham Palace? He’s so gushing and fawning and sycophantic, and even his bloody voice gets on my nerves. I dread anything happening with the royals because you just knew he’ll pop up on the news like a rancid fart. Doesn’t he realise that none of them like him?

@longwayoff

I'm getting on and have watched many royal correspondents over the years. They all - Jennie Bond being a notable exception - slowly transmute into apparently believing themselves to be part of the royals themselves grandiose self-importance, paired with slavering sycophancy, being the least of it. I can't abide any of them and their valued 'expertise'. Can you imagine the Prince Andrew interview carried out by any of them? No wonder Emily Maitlis came as a shock.
Jennie Bond is the most sycophantic of them all Grin

Well here Witchell is today outlining a road map "back" for Prince Andrew as an anti sex trafficking advocate. I guess if Tony B-Liar could be made Middle East Peace Envoy then it's a possibility.

My Dh always says that the BBC can't get rid of NW as RC since the Prince Charles gaffe. Job for life!

GinaJaffacake · 16/02/2022 13:38

He’s an awful man. He left his long term partner and their two young children. He sold their family home from under them forcing them to rent. The house was in his name so he didn’t see that she, mother of his children, was entitled to anything. Disgusting behaviour.

longwayoff · 16/02/2022 13:46

I stand corrected then Tilltheend99 I don't like the sound of her tights. At all. And Prince Andrew as an anti sex-trafficking envoy? I'd make an acerbic remark if I could summon one up but WHAT? Speechless.

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 13:52

Who is that grey-haired man (not Dickie Arbiter, this guy is younger) who has what I think of as a ‘letterbox’ mouth — unusually wide and straight? He’s spectacularly annoying and dogmatic, whoever he is? Richard Something?

Oh I know. Richard of the Daily Mail who was close personal friends with Diana?

Richard Faye, Richard Cray?? Something with an “ay” sound?

Richard Kay!

Aubriella · 16/02/2022 14:01

This. Prince Charles can’t stand any of us.

I know he can't stand me, I met him very briefly and if he were to remember me (unlikely) it would be badly.

Bideshi · 16/02/2022 14:14

Got to say, every time I see one of those tin foil hat theories about the royal family being lizards, I think no, you've got it wrong! it's Nicholas Witchell! He's already transitioned and into half man, half monitor lizard.

FumingFredericka · 16/02/2022 14:35

This thread is a gift that keeps on giving Grin. Especially the "gruesome" Arbiters ...Grin

I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for Nicholas. Loathed by royals and viewers alike.

And sorry for the tastelessness of this comment, but It must be pretty grim knowing that the supposed "highlight" of your career will only come when an old lady dies, and so far she seems to be eluding that fate rather well and making him wait ...

longwayoff and Bideshi there was a good reason why they want to keep video cameras at bay and maintain the mystique Grin Wink

@HufflepuffPride seeing as you think Trevor McDonald was the doyen of broadcasting I am finding it hard to take you seriously Grin

Anyone goes up in my estimation when that monumental parasite Prince Charles whines about them. At least I can see where Prince Harry gets it from. His brother is probably just better at hiding his peevishness.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 16/02/2022 15:14

Missing the point but - which lesbians were sat on, when, where and er, how?

A group of activists invaded the studio of the Six O’Clock News one evening in the late 80s, while Sue Lawley & Nicholas Witchell were broadcasting live. The activists were women protesting some piece of 80s homophobia. I forget but probably Maggie’s ban on the “promotion” of homosexuality in schools, I should imagine.

There was a scuffle off camera. Sue Lawley was on camera and looked briefly alarmed but carried on reading.

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 15:29

Hit post too soon…

It was later reported that NW had physically tackled one of the protesters and restrained her to prevent her getting on camera. So it’s come to be known as “ when Nick Witchell sat on a lesbian”. It always sticks in my mind because I saw it live (not much to see) but then afterwards when details came out, my mum pursed her lips and refused to explain what a lesbian was. 🙄

I’ll see if I can find a link.

If ever there was an example of the fury of a woman scorned, that’s it. Basically she’s livid that she failed to get him to the altar so she could cash in on the £1.5 million house.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 16/02/2022 15:47

@Thoosa fascinating, thank you!

Do tell, @Aubriella. Did you chirp ‘’Allo, Big Ears!’ in the receiving line rather than curtsying?
Fifthtimelucky · 16/02/2022 16:34

Not sure about that. The Daily Mail article quotes her as saying that he begged her to marry him.

She says that they split up because she wanted a third child and he wouldn't let her.

Or did you ask to pass on a message to his brassicas?
