To fucking hate Nicholas Witchell?

When is this awful man going to remove himself from backsides of people who work at Buckingham Palace? He’s so gushing and fawning and sycophantic, and even his bloody voice gets on my nerves. I dread anything happening with the royals because you just knew he’ll pop up on the news like a rancid fart. Doesn’t he realise that none of them like him?

Better Witchell, who has been an actual TV journalist, than desperate hangers on like Lady Colin Campbell or the gruesome Arbiter father and daughter. Or, worst of all, the dreaded Ingrid Seward.

Why does Witchell attract such venom? Just because ol’ Charles doesn’t like him? Fawning is part of the royal correspondent job, unfortunately. The RF wouldn’t play the media game otherwise. Maybe the guy was out of options: being a TV journalist isn’t something that comes with job security. Ask Jan Leeming and Sue Lawley.

I hope that when he is due to retire he will do a live interview with Charles and say, on live TV, “I have always thought that you were a massive twat, and you’re thick as well!”

Witchell was having his haircut in a barbers near my office quite a few years ago now. He was utterly obnoxious to the barber.

I’ve always assumed he stuck around because it was fun getting up royal noses on behalf of the Beeb, while looking polite. And bills and stuff.

I get far more annoyed by the royal talking heads who bob up on every possible ‘documentary’, confidently opining on stuff they can’t possibly know anything about — the man with the loud ties, Ingrid Something with the eyeliner, Katie Nicholls, the grey-haired man with the letterbox mouth.

I always felt Michael Burke must have been very affected by Ethiopia (and IIRC re reported from apartheid SA also)- if I spent years doing that I'd be quite happy to present the moral maze and whatever history doc you have seen him in
I'd actually forgotten that Burke was expelled from SA because he was telling people what was actually happening under apartheid. Mind you, he seems to be an absolute twat of the highest order in his personal views, so I will continue to think of him as the awful drunk uncle on Boxing Day.

I can't get too het up about Witchell. Someone's got to be RC, and at least he never pretends that they like him Grin

I reckon Charles comments about him caught off camera was just a glimpse of how they feel about most of us. "That awful man," could be any of us commoners.

He was a decent anchor, and not he's stuck doing a job he hates, because 'royal correspondent' is a bullshit job and everyone knows it is.

I'm reminded of Michael Buerk, now reduced to popping up in stately homes and watching woman make posset by squeezing calves' brains through muslin as they did in the court of Queen Anne, or whatever. It's hardly reporting on Ethiopia's famine.

Have you never heard Moral Maze? He’s been doing that for a decade or two and that’s not inconsequential. He can’t go gadding about the world’s trouble spots into his dotage, anyway. Poor Mr Buerk. Smile

Jenny bond was the same when she was the royal correspondent, so ott with the gushing-they must get told to be that way or something! I find it nauseating

He's a BBC journalist. Toadying to the establishment is part of the job remit.

Charles can't stand NW because (like most people in the public eye) he's part of the media. The Royal Family, I expect, like talking to real people who have real things to say about real life.
