@CrabSnake

I married the son of a multi millionaire - we live a very nice life and there's no security concerns or pressure to look a certain way.
Yes, but is he Russian and owes his wealth to Putin?
sleepyhoglet · 16/02/2022 16:51

Have you seen that documentary with Alexandra Tolstoy- The russian Countess? I imagine not always as wonderful as it might seem

To be fair, want half her problem that she wasn’t married to him? Or am I confused? The plaintive hand wringing about having to make do with that gorgeously Oxon farmhouse did make me laugh, though.

Gorgeous Oxfordshire farmhouse*

I know what you mean! She's obviously very independently wealthy, although the oligarch lifestyle is something else! She had to sell a necklace to pay for her new Aga!
ParsleySageRosemary · 16/02/2022 17:14

Dangerous and not all that secure I’d imagine!

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 17:15

She had to sell a necklace to pay for her new Aga!

The struggle is real! I wonder whether any of my necklaces would finance a baby belling? Grin

The necklace DP gave me for Christmas might just about stretch to a Mini Babybel.

  1. You need to be prepared to be replaced once not even plastic surgeries and cosmetic treatments can hide your age.
  2. You have very little control over your life. You need to represent your husband, you have staff around you 24/7, bodyguards when outside.
  3. Life can be dangerous for your husband too, you can fall out with Mr. President and then it's open season.
  4. They don't really do democracy, neither in political life, nor in marriage.
  5. Money can buy you some happiness but it has a huge cost.
YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 16/02/2022 18:15

You’d be disposable, in every sense of the word I suspect.

ImprobablePuffin · 16/02/2022 19:08

@PollyCreo

We regularly see Andrey Melnichenko's 'superyacht' rocking up here (Google it Shock) It's the ugliest and scariest vessel I've ever seen Confused

I can see the coast from my house and one day saw it emerging from the mist; everyone was agog. The next thing, it ran aground on the rocks - I didn't fancy the captain's chances of promotion after that Grin

It looks like a space age warship!
Yanto12 · 18/03/2022 10:35

Dunno what an Ogliarch is but you might want to consider an Oligarch instead

queenMab99 · 18/03/2022 10:49

Why dream about being married to someone rich, if I was going to dream pointlessly, I would dream about me being rich!

Sounds like most people on the thread had the idea it prob wasn't too enviable a lifestyle.

I'd be worrying about what I'd have to do to earn the lifestyle frankly.

An oligarch's wife could enjoy now a household income of £2500/month

countrygirl99 · 18/03/2022 12:47

A friend's daughter taught in an international (not in the UK) and there were several oligarchs children there. They had 24/7 armed guards due to the kidnap risk. The guards used to sit outside the class but by the door every lesson.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 18/03/2022 13:37

Disappointed that nobody has mentioned the drawers with the severed hands of business rivals in them. Are there no Stewart Lee fans about?

londonmummy1966 · 18/03/2022 13:58

You too can live the Alexandra Tolstoy lifestyle - if you have £765 to spend on a lampshade................

I do love the still life oil paintings though

I've never seen a handsome one. Ugliarchs, more like.

Holothane · 18/03/2022 14:49

Mine would be spitting image of Mathew Modine and called Ivan.

TRUE.

Having billions in the bank does nothing for their looks.
