Really sick of this weather

It always seems worse in February as we've had 3 or 4 months of this cold, wet, gray, windy and miserable weather and it seems never ending.

Another month or so until spring and it starts to improve.

OP posts:
crackofdoom · 14/02/2022 22:38

Ddraig Goch Ah, he hasn't been there the last few days, he's been down in Cornwall visiting me and getting wet 😆. Drove back yesterday getting wetter... USUALLY though, it's common that I'll be moaning about the shitty mizzle and he'll have some sun/ dramatic rainstorm/ sun again.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/02/2022 22:48

Here in the middle, it's been the least offensive winter for years. 20-21 and 19-20 were both depressing, torrential mud-fests. I managed to get away with not taking the sides down on the trampoline until a couple of weeks ago. The winter has passed without solid weeks of oppressive grey where it's barely bothered to get light. There hasn't been a continuous stream trickling downhill from an off-road grit path until it meets the pavement before it can find drainage. There have been a couple of weeks of ice/ freezing fog causing parkrun cancellations, but not the near national shut-down that we had through Jan & Feb 2020 due to regular storms, although the north has bourne the brunt of the weather this year.

My mood's been unusually good this winter because there has been regular daylight. I've not had many soakings when running and I've managed to keep open water swimming through the winter.

The snow attempts have been pathetic though.

LemonSwan · 14/02/2022 23:11

We are midlands. I work outside. Its been an exceptionally good year in terms of cold, wet etc. Not too cold, not too wet, a bit windy yes.

So YABU sorry OP.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 15/02/2022 06:15

Storms aren't special, they've just been given names to warn/scare people to be more aware.

Hmm - that really depends on where you are in the country!

We're on the Cumbrian coast and I work outside - the storms we're having this week probably mean I'll need to close my business for a couple of days as we have amber warnings and 60+mph winds due to hit us. Around the coast and in woods that can kill people.

Carbiesdreamhouse · 15/02/2022 06:24

South east and it's been a very odd winter. Very warm (often 12 degrees) and not very wet. It's been spring like some days. A bit of wind occassionally but nothing like last winter when we had 3ft of snow and ice!

I hate very very hot summers so I'm really hoping we just stick around 20 for the rest of the year and the 12s in January don't mean we will be hitting the 40s come July.

NevilleFromTheSwan · 15/02/2022 06:41

Scotland here on the West Coast and it's been horrendous. Never ending wind and freezing rain.

We have lost roof tiles, the barn doors have come off, my garden is decimated, our very old 70s built bathroom extension is creaking like a ship.

Tomorrow we are expecting yet another storm followed by one on Friday. It makes going to work difficult as there's only one road out of the farm into the village and it's surrounded by trees 🌳

RampantIvy · 15/02/2022 06:55

I hate very very hot summers so I'm really hoping we just stick around 20 for the rest of the year

Which translates to about 16 degrees where I live. I hope it gets warmer than that. I would like to be able to wear shorts this summer.

I agree that it hasn't been the worst winter for weather, but by now I am just so over winter. The road spray on the A1 yesterday made driving quite difficult, and I can do without that.

Toanewstart23 · 15/02/2022 07:00

@mrstnov13

I'm down in Kent and we've had some lovely sunny days recently. It's been rather mild.
Me too Doesn’t it make you even happier to live down south!
MeanderingGently · 15/02/2022 07:01

I hate summer, I much prefer winter. Therefore I entirely disagree with you, this warm, wet February is very disappointing. I remember the days when it would be minus temperatures right through to March and we'd have lots of snow (which I love). Seldom get that these days here in the East Midlands. The snow used to be so deep my father would build "snow castles" with it, using a spade, so my little sister and I could play out in them.

We used to have lovely cold autumns as well, by bonfire night in November it would have been about -5 degrees every night, whereas these days its more like +5 degrees. Winter would mean months and months of frost, frozen lakes, snow, and beautiful thick winter mists.

Sadly our winters are too warm, and too short. And our summers go on for too long and are even hotter than they should be. Personally, I loved living in northern Scandinavia and wish England had similar weather....very long, cold winters and summers in which the average temperature barely reaches 15 degrees. Perhaps I should move up to the top of Scotland....?

"Storms aren't special, they've just been given names to warn/scare people to be more aware."

The storms this year have been incredibly destructive where I am.

Not looking forward to Wednesday/Thursday where I am but am glad that I am at home and the kids are off school (half term) so we don't need to be out

blanketyblanked · 15/02/2022 07:42

It's been a remarkably dry and mild winter so far. It's only just now that it's turning to the rainy grey bit. So I think you are being unreasonable, we've actually had many lovely sunny days

RampantIvy · 15/02/2022 07:43

You must live in London/the South East @MeanderingGently?

Here in Yorkshire we very rarely get blistering hot summers, and February so far has not been warm. I agree that we need more proper winter weather, but we have had several frosts this year where we live.

Mollysocks · 15/02/2022 07:49

@Toanewstart23

Yet another reason I’m so happy to live in SE

We’ve had the best winter I can imagine
Yesterday…. Bright blue sky and cloudless

Yes yesterday was beautiful 😍

I watched something recently that described the south coast of the U.K. as ‘the banana belt’ as it’s a lot warmer and drier than the rest of the U.K.

RampantIvy · 15/02/2022 07:50

I need to move there

Yants · 15/02/2022 07:54

I do the same 6 mile bike ride every day and in the last 4 months there's probably only been 3 or 4 days in total when I've not had to battle a headwind so strong that I'm barely going above walking pace on the outbound leg of the ride.

LakieLady · 15/02/2022 08:16

It was glorious in the SE yesterday: sunny, mild, clear and really spring-like.

I went for a walk and the skylarks were nesting and singing their hearts out, and there was a bee buzzing round the garden in the late morning.

Colder and grey today though.

Toanewstart23 · 15/02/2022 08:46

Kent
Just back from a run
Mild
Still
Clear sky
Bloody glorious

Toanewstart23 · 15/02/2022 08:47

I’ve been up north twice
And both times all I recall is the biting wind and relentless rain

Thesearmsofmine · 15/02/2022 08:50

YANBU I am fed up the grey windy rainy days. I can’t wait for spring.

noinorm · 15/02/2022 08:52

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

We’ve had lovely weather in Jan in S. Yorks. Mild and lots and lots of sun. Even this month started off sunny.
Same here - I'm in Scotland. Not much rain, either (apart from last weekend!).
Gowithme · 15/02/2022 09:03

I didn't mind January, we had hardly any wind all month so even if it was cold it didn't feel as bad, didn't rain too much either. February has been much more windy and stormy and I hate it. Can't wait for spring/summer.

SirChenjins · 15/02/2022 09:06

I’m in Edinburgh - loads of rain so far and 2 storm warnings this week with snow forecast for Friday. The relentless grey, damp miserable weather with wind thrown in for good measure is so depressing.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 09:10

And our summers go on for too long and are even hotter than they should be

They aren’t like this near me. Few hot days then it’s generally about 17-18 degrees and grey skies

AllOfUsAreDead · 15/02/2022 09:14

Agreed. It's been so crap. And more storms coming soon blocking more roads with trees no doubt. Doesn't make any difference for me right now, I'm stuck inside but it would be nice to have a different view for once.

Spongecakeandcoffee · 15/02/2022 09:21

Yanbu. January wasn't too bad here, cold sunny and dry.

This last week or so have been horrible with relentless wind and rain.

Always sick of Winter by this time of year and really hoping for better weather soon.
