What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

OP posts:
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/02/2022 00:52

I hope these aren't from small family businesses. My parents literally had to glue everything down, including ornaments that they had for years and a nativity set because people kept stealing things
It's not a victimless crime when your parents are upset towels have been stolen, they have to buy more and there is no money left

I'll bet these are also the sort of people who will leave terrible reviews about the basic decor, non-premium towels/linen and lack of ornaments and personal touches. Completely oblivious to the fact that the businesses have either been forced to give up permanently because people keep stealing the nice things, or even if they do still make the effort, the previous guest has already thieved them all.
@flowervest75’s thieving ways don’t seem to have raised prices in the Blakemore Hotel. It’s as cheap as chips for central London. Doesn’t make it any less shameful though. And to brag about it …
@Blossomtoes in case you forgot the thread title is what ‘what things are you guilty of NICKING from hotels?’ Please tell me where I bragged, I simply answered the question😂
If you’ve never taken anything from a hotel then great for you. All I did was comment, not start a thread telling everyone I’ve just stolen two of Blakemore Hotels finest towels. Get a grip this is literally what the thread is about

NinaDefoe · 14/02/2022 00:52

I stole a bathmat once.
It was lovely and soft, the perfect colour for my bathroom and was brand new with tags still on.

I did it out of spite.
It was a holiday rental - advertised as such and a town house in a city.

When we arrived at the agreed time the owner was nowhere to be seen. She finally turned up half an hour late in her massive expensive car and told us that her DC and their friends had used the place the night before and she needed to give it a clean.
It was her husband’s city bolt hole she said.

She kept us waiting outside for over an hour in total and when she had gone we realised that the fridge & cupboards were full of food and there were personal belongings in every wardrobe & drawer.

£150 per night and we felt were intruding in someone else’s house complete with all their clutter and mess.

The most offensive thing was the large photo of the woman and her mustard chino clad husband above the TV.

When I messaged her at the end of our stay to say we would post the key in the box as agreed she asked me to transfer £15 service charge and £15 parking fee as she’d forgotten to add it on.

Well, I forgot to transfer it to her.
I also forgot to empty the bins & strip the beds and for some reason decided to help myself to her new bathmat when what I really wanted to do was break every item in the CF’s house.

@HideousKinky

I never said it was the right thing to do but it's a couple of towels not £100 grand from the safe

You think that makes it OK flowervest75?

@HideousKinky hun I took a couple of towels and I’d do it again. I didn’t say it’s okay, I’ve just commented what I’ve done. Feel free to report me to the police!

This reminds me of the other recent thread about stingey people, where, alongside those being ultra frugal and deliberately going without, there were also stories of plain outright theft.

People who would steal toilet rolls to save themselves paying a couple of quid to buy them, and in so doing, rendering very expensive taxpayer-funded public facilities largely useless - and also most probably ruining the day for a lot of vulnerable people who forgot to check before 'committing' themselves.

Imagine leaving a child crying, embarrassed and really uncomfortable for hours with a pooey bum, just because you felt your selfish desire to save £2 on buying a pack of toilet roll was more important than their needs. Not your proudest moment, I'm sure.

flowervest75 · 14/02/2022 01:04

People are stealing pens, robes, spoons, pillows, bath maths and glasses from the pub. Yet it’s me taking a couple of towels that have derailed this thread. Ok🤣 save it with the fake outrage pls.

For all those that keep saying it’s theft. Once again, that’s literally what the thread is about. I’m not sure why you’d click on the thread title and be surprised that people are talking about nicking things when that’s literally what the thread is talking about? Weird.

Anyway back to you OP🤣 haven’t heard a peep from you and I’m tired of the attacks. Enjoy your tissue rolls and I’ll continue to enjoy these towels. Also, why the hell would I use a body towel to wash my face? Unlike a lot of you here, I’m from a culture which requires you to have separate towels for separate things, try it sometime😉

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/02/2022 01:06

hun I took a couple of towels and I’d do it again. I didn’t say it’s okay, I’ve just commented what I’ve done.

You clearly do think it's OK, though, by adding a 'lol' earlier and then admitting you do/would do the same again in future - unless you're actively seeking therapy to overcome kleptomania.

Would you steal a couple of towels from Asda or Tesco? If not, why not?

Gj63 · 14/02/2022 01:13

Duvets are our favourite... Pillows and the odd seat or two help

Don't know why you're bothering replying.

Everything Salt and pepper pots, glasses, cutlery, ornaments, hand wash, hand cream, toilet roll... if you're that desperate, go to a charity shop or food bank. I mean someone asked my dad for a glass once which was a branded one and he said fine but stick a quid in the charity box

Except they couldn't because you know, the charity box had been nicked too

Monty27 · 14/02/2022 01:22

@LadyOfMisrule

I took a teaspoon once from a hotel I'd been staying in. I'd been using it in my coffee jar, and forgotten to remove it. It does make me smile with happy memories when I see it in the drawer. (I'd paid £220 a night for 4 months, so I'm sure a teaspoon won't bankrupt them, but I hadn't taken it on purpose.)
Blimey how rich are you? Anyway no I don't steal from hotels but I usually take the freebies if they're decent. 😀
steff13 · 14/02/2022 01:25

@flowervest75

DP and I always take a couple of big towels just because we can😂 they’re always super long and so comfy. I love them lol
Here they would charge your credit card for that.

What culture is that out of interest?
CailleachGranda · 14/02/2022 01:54

A culture that steals and calls people "hun" perhaps

CustardySergeant · 14/02/2022 01:54

@JessCat75

Have never felt the need to nick anything from a hotel, sorry but that's very weird.
Nor me. It's never crossed my mind.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/02/2022 01:58

What culture is that out of interest?

By the sounds of it, one that doesn't believe in shops as a place to legitimately source your household needs.

Several mainstream cultures and faiths have precise customs whereby you would need additional sets of items for certain occasions, daily tasks and rituals - but I can't think of a single one that advocates thieving them.

LadyPropane · 14/02/2022 01:59

If there's some really lovely soaps and hand creams then I will take those. I will actually use them fairly quickly.

Most other stuff I wouldn't bother stealing. I can't be arsed lugging around a lot of tiny bits and pieces just because they were free. I have enough shite in my house as it is Grin

ParalysisByAnalysis · 14/02/2022 01:59

Chandler, you have to find the line between stealing, and taking what the hotel owes you.

A hair dryer? No no no. Shampoos and conditioners? Ah-yes yes yes!

Greenzone · 14/02/2022 02:03

How very common of you.

Cocogreen · 14/02/2022 02:10

Why would you take a hotel towel? They're not new?!!! Probably been used by 100 other people. I know they're very fluffy and clean but come on, yuck.
I don't take anything, except if I've only used half a little shampoo I'll take it home to finish.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 14/02/2022 02:20

I take the biscuits and hot chocolate sachets if they have them and I haven't eaten them during my stay. Also the disposable shower caps and wee hand soaps ( if they smell good). To me it's not stealing as they are consumables I've paid for in the room price. I also pocket the occasional sachet of Nutella from a breakfast buffet using similar logic. I have a very small appetite so hotels make a huge profit on my meals so I feel its reasonable if I take a wee tub of Nutella to eat later. It's like a breakfast doggy bag!

Things like towels and loo rolls seem like theft to me. I lost all respect for my mum when I found out she took things like that from hotels.

PerditaPerdita · 14/02/2022 02:22

Nothing.

DropYourSword · 14/02/2022 02:22

@flowervest75

it's just that it's possible for dishonest guests to betray their trust in basic human decency and get away with it.

I never said it was the right thing to do but it’s a couple of towels not £100 grand from the safe. Clearly no one has taken anything from a hotel that they’re not supposed too

Well, no. Because most people aren't thieves.
TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 14/02/2022 02:22

@Ylvamoon

A set of lovely bath towels... it had the hotels name on them, which is also my name. Just couldn't resist!
A pp mentioned the slippers provided by the Celtic Manor (Newport, Wales), those are 'one use' slippers, so they are intended to be either thrown away, or taken home. They also supply bath robes with their brand name on them, which are not for taking home, but you can buy new ones in one of their shops at the hotel. I bought one, and for some silly reason it has only just occurred to me that any of my guests seeing me in it when visiting, will probably think I stole it!

I think @Ylvamoon that if you had asked the hotel they would have probably allowed you to buy them. I don't think that the Courts, (or many of us mnetters) would think that you "Just couldn't resist!" them is a good enough defence...
