What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

Are you still together? Ask them. Grin
SirChenjins · 15/02/2022 18:10

I agree with @Sparklingbrook - we need answers!

LadyOfMisrule · 15/02/2022 18:13

@FlexibleWorkingDenied, @Monty27

I should have clarified - it was all charged to the company I was working for!! There's no way in the world I'd have paid that much out of my own pocket!!

It didn't even include dinner.

RussellTheLoveMuscle · 15/02/2022 18:15

I like to take toilet seats. Don't even need them.

SmorgasBorb · 15/02/2022 18:24

Oh god.
Taking the toiletries, biscuits, teas, slippers, pen, writing pad from a hotel or the free PJs, slippers, toiletry bag you were given on a business class flight is not stealing as it there for your use as a consumable. There's no need to titter with glee that you 'stole' a green tea from the hotel room to have later. They don't care if you smashed through the teas while staying there or to have next Xmas.

Taking the towels, gowns, kettle, artwork, TV, anything screwed down, furniture, Corby trouser press etc is stealing and beyond contempt.

I must have stayed in hundred of hotels with work and I've never thought it would be reasonable to take a towel home with me. So trashy.

You do know that NO ONE on Mumsnet is going to admit to stealing anything from a hotel? Grin
@LadyGagagagaga123 I’m not ashamed at all hence why I posted it🤷‍♀️
Many good 5* hotels would just add the cost of the towels to your bill. Do you check your final accounts a month or so later after they have tallied-up breakages, theft etc?

OneTC · 15/02/2022 18:26

You didn't even read to post number 5?

Yespresh · 15/02/2022 18:27

Toddler daughter pinched a fridge magnet years ago from a holiday cottage. The shame! It was 20 years ago, I never admitted to it and it still flusters me!

AnnieSnap · 15/02/2022 18:29
@NannyOggsWhiskyStash you can help yourselves to towels and keep topping them up so it’s not like you check in with a set amount and are expected to check out with that same amount. So there’s no charges or anyone getting in touch about anything.

Tbh I expect the hotels know that some people might take things such as pillows/towels so aren’t too bothered🤷‍♀️ I probably would have just taken the robe and dealt with any consequences if it was that nice
They leave a certain number and notice what is there each day, so yes, they do know. What kind of hotels do you stay in where you can help yourself to extra towels? 🤷‍♀️

Yespresh · 15/02/2022 18:29

Virgin upper class had little personal aeroplane salt and pepper pots which were supposed to be taken home apparently Shock

Poppingmad123 · 15/02/2022 18:47

Seriously 😳 toilet roll?? Gosh, how hard up are you?!

Annie202 · 15/02/2022 18:49

@flowervest75

DP and I always take a couple of big towels just because we can😂 they’re always super long and so comfy. I love them lol
Are you serious?
ToffeeMamma · 15/02/2022 18:49

I was told once in premier Inn (after being advised by the receptionist to take the towels with me after I pointed out to hubby we hadn't brought our own towels for the follow on hotel who didn't provide them) she told me, regarding towels they actually don't care much about them anyway because they have a standard of whiteness and if they are beginning to lose their whiteness when they return from laundrette they are disposed of anyway and are skipped, hence why they only use white in premier inn and some other chains. the receptionist told me that they don't have time for checking every towel anyway and as most are bundled up together in the shower after a stay they just get thrown in the laundry basket and new ones replaced. There's no log of every item including small electricals like fans etc. Some customers take things between rooms too if they have a couple booked so it's not at all easy to charge for any item. Barring the TV and fixtures and fixings. She told me that they lose all sorts of items such as fans, towels, hair dryers, bibles, coat hangers, kettles, pillows, even king sized duvets have gone missing but are never charged for because they don't like to accuse the customer just in case there is a genuine mistake like a family member has took it to another room. That and they have such a turn over of bedding and towels it's not really worth them arguing over it with a customer sad but true.

Oh and before I get lynched here for taking towels I didn't take them, they were offered but we bought some new ones while out shopping instead.

What I found more concerning was the fact she told me on average the bedding and towels were only used about 5 times in total because they get stained and marked so easy they use white to be able to see how clean and hygienic they are. They've had all-sorts of stains from poo to blood, hair dye and vomit etc. Although they'll attempt to clean if the slightest mark remains or there's a fade in the whiteness they go. So on average 5 uses is normal. So although I'm not saying take the towels they don't actually care that much if you take the odd one. Maybe if you stole the whole set it'd be a different matter.

wellstopdoingitthen · 15/02/2022 18:52

When I unpacked after a holiday a few years ago my husband had packed the hotel bathrobes. He claimed he thought 'complementary' meant they were a gift to us. In fairness he was really embarrassed. I almost contacted the hotel (abroad) as I was worried they would come after us.
It's been 20 years, I think we're safe now Smile

KeepingAnOpenMind · 15/02/2022 18:53

@theremustbemorecheese Pretty desperate to steal an ashtray.

theremustbemorecheese · 15/02/2022 19:04

@KeepingAnOpenMind

I'm touched that you feel it necessary to single me out considering the hole thread is about stealing from hotels.

Did I piss on your cornflakes in a previous life? 🤣🤣

Gilly12345 · 15/02/2022 19:07

I only take the part used toiletries as they are of no use to anyone else.

Kristof · 15/02/2022 19:07

Quilt cover ..... Not the one on my bed but one out of the cupboard in the hallway, it was a crap room and over priced. Took it the night before check out as we were cold and staff rude, so we kept it

I think this is awful all round - but even if anyone thinks it's okay: please, please don't do this if you have rented a property from an individual owner. We can't afford to replace huge fluffy white towels after five uses! (and, ideally, please don't poo or throw up on the towels or use them for hair dye - though the mind slightly boggles why anyone would do these things).

I was in Thailand with my partner, we checked into our room and there was a white towelling bath robe and all the usual toiletries.

We had back packs as was travelling about abit. When we checked out to go to our next destination they did a room check, we were still waiting for our coach. They then accused us of taking a bath robe! Like really in a backpack! So we had to empty everything out for them to check that we'd not stolen it! Our transfer turned up and all our clothes were still being stuffed back on our bags, luckily the transfer waited for us, I was mortified and fuming at the same time!
