To be so worried

I've posted about this a couple of times over the last couple of days but I don't know what to do!!

DD (4) has a viral infection since Wednesday that has affected her stomach. Went to the Gp on Friday who sent her straight to the hospital as she was very dehydrated and her blood sugar was dangerously low. They gave her some glucose gel stuff and put her on a fluid challenge and then discharged her once she had some fluid. We took her back in last night as she was still being sick and had only managed 200ml of dioralyte and hadn't peed in 24 hours. They gave her some more dioralyte and luckily she did a wee while we were there so they sent her home and told us to carry on with the fluid challenge.
Today she has managed 100ml of dioralyte, has slept for over 16 hours throughout the day and has been for a really tiny wee. She hasn't eaten anything other than half an apple since Wednesday. She hasn't got the energy to keep her eyes open let alone stand up or walk around. If we go back to the hospital I think they will just do the same as we are doing at home by giving her syringes of dioralyte but I'm starting to get really really worried. She's literally skin and bones, her lips are cracked and her skin is greyish. I don't know how much longer they can expect her to carry on like this! Has anyone had anything similar that could give some advice?

with open access surely you can ring anytime for advice. Surely just ask them. pointless sitting worrying when you have open access. it is not the same as going back to a&e. Good luck

dizzydizzydizzy · 13/02/2022 19:47

Yes , as other have said, take her back in.

Waterlemon · 13/02/2022 19:48

Have you another hospital near you? When ds was very poorly With a mystery virus we kept being sent away by the local hospital A and E. so we made the decision to take him to a larger hospital. They admitted him straight away (He was later diagnosed with Kawasaki syndrome)

When the bigger hospital asked why we went there rather then back to local hospital we said we were visiting relatives in the area. Didn’t want to get caught up in any politics, we just wanted someone to take our concerns seriously

Inspectorslack · 13/02/2022 19:51

I would take her back Flowers

Houseofvelour · 13/02/2022 19:52

You have open access so take her back now. Who cares what they think? Demand to have her seen properly and refuse to leave.

changenametimeagain · 13/02/2022 19:52

You poor things. Hope she bounces back very soon. I hate it when the little ones are poorly 🥺

HerRoyalHappiness · 13/02/2022 19:57

Take her back. I had similar with DD.
Turns out she had:

Tonsillitis
A UTI
A chest infection
Gastroenteritis

All at the same time which made her incredibly unwell and she needed IV antibiotics before she started to feel better.

GettingThemFromHereToThere · 13/02/2022 19:58

This doesn't sound right at all. She's so little.

I'd take mine back straight away. 5 days with half an apple isn't enough. Best of luck x

INeedNewShoes · 13/02/2022 20:00

Please take her back. If she is dehydrated to the extent of no tears and can't stay awake you have to take her back.

Open access makes it an even easier decision as there's no worry of having to wait hours in the A&E waiting room to be triaged.

scaredsadandstuck · 13/02/2022 20:01

Just to echo what others have said, you've been told you have open access for a reason. If you are worried, take her back in. Have they done any investigation in case it's good poisoning not viral (bloods, poo sample etc?)

Chickenpoxtwins · 13/02/2022 20:02

Hopefully youre on your way back to the hospital now. She sounds very poorly bless her.

RandomMess · 13/02/2022 20:04

I really hope you are on your way there, this situation is why they have given you open access to the ward.

Thanks
scaredsadandstuck · 13/02/2022 20:06

Although all this "demand to have answers/they do something/whatever" is nuts. OP has answers - the doctors believe her DD has a virus. They have given OP open access to the peads ward, they have given the most appropriate treatment for her DD under the circumstances based on their current diagnosis.

I hope she's on the mend very soon, OP. It is so horrible when they are poorly. Flowers

WhiteJellycat · 13/02/2022 20:10

Take her back. I had similar years ago when ds was a baby. Seven days without food. Days without weeing. They was phoning around London hospitals to admit him to get some tubes into him. Luckily he did an enormous poo while in hospital and he seemed to come back after that. But it was so scary. I dont know how he managed so many days without fluids. He bounced back very fast

Jvg33 · 13/02/2022 20:11

Have you tried giving her still lemonade? Something water etc upsets the stomach. I'm sorry your little one is ill.

October2020 · 13/02/2022 20:12

Take her back. I farted about for three days with fluid challenges at hospital, three days of no progress and an ambulance trip later she needed a drip for 24hrs.

ThreeLocusts · 13/02/2022 20:13

So sorry this is happening. I too think you should take her back. Dehydration is no joke.

And don't be shy to insist that they come up with better advice than 'stomach bug, will pass' after five days of this. It's a false economy for them to keep sending her home to deteriorate further.

All the best.

Fayekrista · 13/02/2022 20:14

Take her back.... a mothers instinct the most powerful thing, if your mumma senses are kicking off, trust them!
I say this as someone who had they not followed them & demanded medical professionals listen to me my now 13 Yr old strapping lad may not be here.
I don't believe in fate, angels, luck etc
But mummas instinct... its there!

urghhhhh33 · 13/02/2022 20:15

Thank you for all the advice. We have rung the ward as they asked us to phone first so we are just waiting for a call back

It takes ages to be seen on the children's ward at night especially if they have already assessed her. It's better to go back in the morning unless she gets worse. Keep getting up every hour op to give fluids? I'm no doctor though.
winterchills · 13/02/2022 20:16

That sounds absolutely awful for you all and she should have started to improve by now. 100% take her back and ask for some blood tests
