To let me 16 month old have a couple of chips?

First baby so forgive me if silly question. I'm usually really anal about DA eating healthily, but I've ordered us a cheese and tomato omelette for us to share this morning and it's come with chips (wtf!?). The omelette is molten hot. AIBU to let the baby have a couple of chips while it cools? Obviously no salt or sauce on them.

I wouldn't give it a second thought, a couple of chips once in a while won't do any harm.

hazelnutpraline · 13/02/2022 11:00

Yes it’s fine

Harlequin1088 · 13/02/2022 11:01

As long as they’re not seasoned with arsenic, I’m sure it’ll be fine. Just break the chip in half and blow on it to cool it down before you give it to your little one as chips are buggers for retaining heat.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/02/2022 11:01

I let my 14 month olds have some from her sisters plate yesterday- she survived

Camomila · 13/02/2022 11:03

Aah bless you.

Yes, she'll be fine with a few chips Smile

Garman · 13/02/2022 11:03

Of course, it's fine. Surely the omelette won't take more than a couple of minute to cool if you cut kid sized pieces off anyway though?

Duracellbunnywannabe · 13/02/2022 11:04

Potato and oil. What’s bad about them?

fourandnomore · 13/02/2022 11:05

Absolutely fine! Chips are just potato and a bit of oil in most cases. Nothing wrong with them in moderation, also I’d be disappointed if I ordered an omelette and it didn’t come with chips Wink

roarfeckingroarr · 13/02/2022 11:06

Thanks! Silly question I guess. He's gobbled a few down😁.

The omelette however - still hotter than the sun

As there was another thread a couple of days ago where many mums said they ordered a full kids meal for babies that age, I’m sure a couple of chips will be fine.

DoucheCanoe · 13/02/2022 11:08

YANBU.

Also, I've now added omelette and chips to this week's meal plan - how did I forget about this?! Grin

Dillydollydingdong · 13/02/2022 11:10

Of course a baby that age can chew on a few chips

girafferafferaffe · 13/02/2022 11:11

Of course!

roarfeckingroarr · 13/02/2022 11:12

I saw that thread.

DS eats EVERYTHING - cornichons, raw red onion, curry (not too hot), fish, blue cheese pasta - so I tend to share what I have with him as our appetites are about enough for a whole portion combined. I don't eat chips myself, we didn't have them growing up and I never really got the fuss, so wasn't sure if they're ok. They're pretty spiky and oily!

Sounds lovely. I hope you got a picture of his face when he tasted it. I always loved the look on my DCs faces when they first tried a new food. I can still recall DD1 eating rice pudding (home made by my mum) when about 10 months old and looking so delighted with the world.

And - didn’t you know - it’s the law that every omelette comes with chips.

nellly · 13/02/2022 11:16

Haha I wouldn't expect an omelette to come with chips as a default either lol. But baby will be totally fine with sharing a few chips it's good to encourage all food in moderation I think

collieresponder88 · 13/02/2022 11:16

Jesus really

blyn72 · 13/02/2022 11:17

Of course its all right, why not? Chips are lovely and do no harm unless you eat loads of them every day.

bloodywhitecat · 13/02/2022 11:19

I have always been told there is no such thing as a silly question, if you are unsure it is better to ask than not Flowers
MrsGHarrison87 · 13/02/2022 11:21

Yes it's fine. Why would you ask strangers on the Internet for permission for your child to eat chips? You're his/ her mother. Use your initiative.

SkipThisStep · 13/02/2022 11:22

Of course your toddler can have some chips!!

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 13/02/2022 11:23

I bet he loved them !!

roarfeckingroarr · 13/02/2022 11:24

He loved them. I've created a chip monster.

Thanks everyone - have lovely Sundays.

Everything in moderation.

I'm glad he liked the chips.

MaryShelley1818 · 13/02/2022 11:27

He's a toddler, of course he can have chips!
My 12mth old will happily eat a full kids meal 😋
