To let me 16 month old have a couple of chips?

First baby so forgive me if silly question. I'm usually really anal about DA eating healthily, but I've ordered us a cheese and tomato omelette for us to share this morning and it's come with chips (wtf!?). The omelette is molten hot. AIBU to let the baby have a couple of chips while it cools? Obviously no salt or sauce on them.

Wait until he eats a bug, licks the inside of the kitchen rubbish bin and decides to finger paint with the contents of his nappy before seeing what it tastes like 🤮 🤣

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/02/2022 13:45

Or eating some of those nice crunchy wood lice he found in the garden (My Dbro)

sweeneytoddsrazor · 13/02/2022 13:48

Not only should omlette always come with chips, baked beans would be nice as well Wink

Tillymintpolo · 13/02/2022 13:50

I ate dog biscuits at that age

@Staryflight445 in my experience, health visitors provide support to the most vulnerable in society but are pretty superfluous, if not useless, otherwise. Mine gave me outdated device (you can drink as much wine / beer while breastfeeding as you like, just no vodka - I mean wtf, plus other examples) so I discharged us. I eat well now, my son would never know about my food issues, but I never eat fried or overly processed stuff. He wouldn't know what a chicken nugget is, but he's never seen mummy skip a meal or only eat salad.

Uh huh @RogueV , no need to be a dick. I've been very clear I know I'm being a bit PFB, but i was more concerned about the oil / salt, I don't exactly calorie count - especially with toddler

Nope not being a dick.
Only saying what everyone else is thinking.

Daftasabroom · 13/02/2022 14:02

If it helps my 16 yo has had breakfast x 2, brunch, lunch, late lunch, soup (doesn't count as an actual meal obvs) and is looking forward to snacks, afternoon tea, high tea, dinner, supper and a midnight feast or two.

He could easily hide in the bean poles at the garden centre, but to be fair he went on an eight hour bike ride yesterday.

OP your DD will be fine, don't sweat the small stuffSmile.

Staryflight445 · 13/02/2022 14:06

Not eating processed food/ your opinions on that do show some eating issues though op.
And that will transfer to your child.
I mean, it has… today.

There is nothing wrong with eating processed foods occasionally. You shouldn’t be worrying about your child eating a few chips, or need clarity on that to ease your mind.

Some health professionals from all areas are useless, they’re not all bad though op.
Definitely something you need to keep in mind.

avocadotofu · 13/02/2022 14:28

I think it's fine occasionally if they don't have salt.

This. If you are worried about additives etc, it is easy enough to make your own chicken nuggets, burgers, pizza.
Leilala · 13/02/2022 14:36

I can’t believe how unkind people have been.

This is just a mother asking other mothers for advice about feeding her child. As she simply didn’t know.

Why can’t we just support each other.

So glad the chips were enjoyed. You could home make some in an air fryer or oven, potatoes are a good source of potassium Wink

With regards to oil - remember that both fats and fat soluble vitamins are important to brain development. Also, they can be an important part of calorie intake when children are growing fast or very active (ie most of the time).

When my eldest was little - just before some of the studies were done that showed earlier exposure to allergens helps in allergic families - I was referred to a dietician to help with my plans for delayed introduction of allergens (vv strong family history). She thought her diet sounded great but did alert me to ensure there was enough fat/oil in it.

I only wanted to mention this as it may help you judge which foods to feel more relaxed about.

It sounds like you're giving him a lovely varied diet, well done.
