To let me 16 month old have a couple of chips?

First baby so forgive me if silly question. I'm usually really anal about DA eating healthily, but I've ordered us a cheese and tomato omelette for us to share this morning and it's come with chips (wtf!?). The omelette is molten hot. AIBU to let the baby have a couple of chips while it cools? Obviously no salt or sauce on them.

I could just eat omelette and chips!

Sparticuscaticus · 13/02/2022 12:09

I remember the PFB days...
Everything in moderation

I have nearly grown DCs and an adult DC. They are all super healthy and fit, and had chips on occasion even at 18 months (you relax once you've more DCs) - in fact cheesy chips (grated cheese melted on top) is their favourite as a pub lunch (we don't go to pub often). They'd also wolf down an omelette but pick the mushrooms out...

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/02/2022 12:11

Of course it's fine. And omelette with chips is a UK classic which I now really really want for lunch.

BobbinHood · 13/02/2022 12:14

They’re just potatoes, it’s not crack.

blyn72 · 13/02/2022 12:21

I thought I would tell you that your thread inspired me to make myself a cheese and tomato omelette. It was absolutely lovely! Thank you.

yoyo1234 · 13/02/2022 12:23

From PP:
"Sounds lovely. I hope you got a picture of his face when he tasted it. I always loved the look on my DCs faces when they first tried a new food. I can still recall DD1 eating rice pudding (home made by my mum) when about 10 months old and looking so delighted with the world."

Similar aged youngest here. Home made rice pudding made them pull a face that looked like they had entered Nirvana, with self feeding (shovelling it in with their hands!) Gusto that I do not think has ever been repeated.

Glad your toddler enjoyed his chips Smile

Omelette & chips is very common

Peak mumsnet

narcdad · 13/02/2022 12:46

@Tenohfour

Peak mumsnet
🤣 very true! I r see not know what I'm laughing more at, the question or the wtf that chips come with omelette (most of the time)

Glad your child enjoyed the chips op

DropYourSword · 13/02/2022 12:48

Absolutely not! He'll turn into a potato Grin

Glad he loved his chips!

JustWonderingIfYou · 13/02/2022 12:50

Yabu to call him a baby. 16konths is clearly a toddler. Of course they can have chips!

roarfeckingroarr · 13/02/2022 12:50

I've never had omelette and chips before! It usually comes with a salad if I have one out. I did not know this was such a thing!

Yes PFB, absolutely PFB. I didn't know if I would become a mother and since his dad left I'm even more determined to get it right. I love to cook so everything he has (except yoghurt, pasta, bread) is home made.

I appreciate the kindness, I thought I might be told I'm an out of touch anti chip stealth boaster (not true, except out of touch with omelette accompaniments apparently).

@JustWonderingIfYou noooooo he's my baby still!! Just with running around and tantrums.

This. Possibly need to get a grip op.
Judd · 13/02/2022 13:03

It sounds like you had a really nice lunch together. Glad he enjoyed his chips! X

Staryflight445 · 13/02/2022 13:05

I think you need to reassess your attitude towards food?
Chips aren’t bad? In moderation.
I don’t understand the salt obsession either?

But that’s just me… everything in moderation, no limits.

Common as in normal or common as in what awful people do? Omelette (mushroom) and chips was the Friday lunchtime staple at the Officers' Club, make of that what you wish!
Georgeskitchen · 13/02/2022 13:11

Perfectly fine. My kids had chips at least once a week for tea and they are still alive and well. I would eat them every day but a tad unhealthy still love em tho!

I had an ED when young, so I eat very healthily now but don't restrict food.

@Judd we did thank you. I take him out for brunch every Sunday and Wednesday (my day off) after we go swimming.

The baby toddler is fast asleep on my lap now while we have a pre-rugby pint. We as in me and friends, not me and him Grin

Staryflight445 · 13/02/2022 13:18

From your post I did wonder if that was the case op.
I honestly think it’s worth having a chat with someone, maybe your health visitor?
You’re saying you don’t restrict and eat really healthily, but at the same time you’re asking if your toddler can eat a couple of chips.

You’ve done really well fighting your ED, but now you’re feeding a child it’s bound to crop up in ways like this. HVs are brilliant for support, they’ll fully understand what you’ve been through and how far you’ve come and help you build a different relationship with food with your child.

My dd is 30, she's still my baby.

RogueV · 13/02/2022 13:24

Can’t believe this is an actually thread

Massive eye roll here and I don’t even care

Staryflight445 · 13/02/2022 13:26

Op has overcome an ED @RogueV

RogueV · 13/02/2022 13:27

And she’s going to give her son one if she carries on like this
