DH picked up DD after a pint

Exactly that. DD does gymnastics and DH was keen to pick her up at 12.30 today.

When he got home I heard him in deep sleep, snoring. I thought this is weird so asked if he'd been to the pub and he says yes. A pint before picking up. Then he kept falling asleep saying he didn't sleep last night - he doesn't live here at the moment .

Drinking during the day with children is unacceptable and falling asleep.

He has a drinking issue but this day drinking is a new low. He does not live here. What on earth do I do in terms of restrictions on DD?

He just gets angry if I mention the pint.

I'd like to know what options practically I have to stop this.

You need to safeguard your children.

He is unfit. If you leave your children with him, knowing he's an alcoholic, then you are complicit if something happens.

Don't let him round your house and cease contact until he's sober. He's the worst role model and you aren't showing them a good example either. No one should put up with a "mean" drunk.

Don't know any man who would fall asleep after 1 pint. He probably had more

Bairnsmum05 · 13/02/2022 19:05

@RedHelenB it would be in Scotland. Poster doesn't say where they live.
@millymolls not an over reaction if driving, it's illegal.
In England it's not illegal to drive after one pint of beer.

However, if he is falling into deep sleeps then he doesn't sound as though he was fit to drive, nor does he seem fit to look after a child during the day.

It would be very unusual for someone, to get in that kind of stupor and sleepiness after just one pint. It sounds like he's either had way more, or has something else wrong.

How many people can’t read? OP has said it was on foot, not driving.

Sounds like their are lots of problems here, but this particular incident doesn’t seem too bad (unless he was actually properly drunk, which doesn’t seem to be the case).

I asked him if it was a good idea to go the pub if you haven't slept well and he admitted probably not. However I tried to sit down and have a conversation and say how much this affects the family and he looked at me blankly with no understanding of why it might be impacting the family. It's just terrible. I'm.trying to work out a way not to have to rely on him.at alll with the children - I'm just not sure how as I have no family and the financial cost of it and work hours that can be late

I agree with this.

Unless DD is a toddler or younger, I don't think it's that bad to pick her up on foot and then fall asleep on the sofa once you're home? Surely lots of parents have dropped off when at home with their kids, if they've been tired?

BigFatLiar · 14/02/2022 13:47

The essence of the story is he's not slept well, stopped and had a pint before picking up DD from gymnastics, walked home with her, had a nap (no doubt while OP was there) and she's told him off for having a drink during the day and being tired. Rather than hang his head in shame he's just looked at her blankly.

Others have said there is history so going from that and that this incident isn't of itself any real issue I'd suggest OP simply wants shot of him, not easy as he is DD's father.
