How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

Probably about 3 times a year and that’s buying fish and chips and eating them at the beach.

There’s no takeaway food shops within a 30 minute drive from here so we never order in.

I love a good curry but there’s nowhere outside the main city (100 mins away) that I know of that does a good menu so I make it myself when I’m in the mood.

When I used to live in the U.K. we used to order a curry about once every 2-3 months so not very regularly. To be honest, most of the time, I find eating out expensive and disappointing.

Itsnotdeep · 11/02/2022 11:54

none. I don't like them. I'd rather go out for something to eat (I do that maybe once or twice a month at the moment).

londonmummy1966 · 11/02/2022 11:57

once a week or once a fortnight (sometimes I buy a ready meal curry and have that with rice instead)

TangledNemo · 11/02/2022 11:59

We usually always have Chinese on a Friday. Might have one or two more during the week if he’s on Night Shift or we cba cooking.

Bumpy23 · 11/02/2022 11:59

3-4 a year. But that's because it's 40 min round trip to get it. Joys of rural!!

gogohm · 11/02/2022 11:59

@Cherryberrypies

That's how I kicked my takeaway habit, there's very few options and none that nice (well nothing wrong but it's all greasy fast food etc) takes effort to get a decent takeaway, 30 minute drive so I don't

RisingSunn · 11/02/2022 12:00

Far too many.

Can be up to 3 times a week.

AuntMargo · 11/02/2022 12:02

Hardly ever, and when we do I always feel grotty and have the poops after

SanFranBear · 11/02/2022 12:05

And you, OP? 14 pages in and we're none the wiser as to your own habits Hmm

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 11/02/2022 12:05

@FastFood

A few times a year. There's this amazing pakistani restaurant in east london, its delicious but your clothes stink after eating there so its always delivery or take away. Otherwise, I always have easy stuff to cook in the flat if I'm feeling lazy, or I just go to Coop and buy a pizza to put in the oven. Really don't get the appeal of paying £15-20 for greasy tasteless food.
Of course, now I'd like to try this the next time I'm visiting somewhere near there.

Do you mind identifying the restaurant, please?

LiveFromNewYork · 11/02/2022 12:09

I'd say once every two months on average. I don't like the feeling of being dependant on someone to come to me, often late (by which time you could have cooked your own meal), food cold, never as nice as in a restaurant, and our address is a bit tricky to find so it's always a bit of a business. Just not a nice enough experience to justify the calories/cost.

HugeBowlofChips · 11/02/2022 12:10

I am always disappointed. A few times a year. 4?

Spacemonkey2016 · 11/02/2022 12:12

Too often, to be honest. About once a fortnight. This week twice in a week. But two kids under 5, both work, sometimes it is very needed!

lucywho123 · 11/02/2022 12:13

Once or Twice a Week I'd say. Def one evening most weekends

user33323 · 11/02/2022 12:16

I'm surprised by these answers, it is way more than I thought most people had. For us maybe 2 or 3 times a year. But we also get McDonald's drive thru or chippy chips or something else cheap on days out that have ran late and we've not planned dinner about once a month? Maybe slightly less.

EnglishMuffins · 11/02/2022 12:18

1-2 times a month max and we may have a meal out once a month too.

AryaStarkWolf · 11/02/2022 12:19

@Wheresthebeach

We do special meals out, but for takeaways - maybe one every 2 months if we feel a desperate need for Pizza.
" a desperate need for Pizza" I love it Grin
stayathomer · 11/02/2022 12:27

Once every week since I started working in town, used to be about once a month. It doesn't bother me, we eat relatively healthily the rest of the time!!!

Every Saturday. Usually eat out once a week too.

Hellosunshiner · 11/02/2022 12:29

One a month.

Haha! I wondered when someone would ask! It used to me almost never but during lockdown it went up to once or twice a week. It's a bad habit I'm trying to break! Wink

Once every 2/3 weeks maybe, but that's because I don't fancy take aways, I much prefer a homemade meal with great quality meat or fish/seafood.
My husband would love to have more take aways, he loves burgers, pizza and thai food, and doesn't like mess in the kitchen
The kids tend to have a take away once or twice a week (Friday night is pizza night).

PinkTonic · 11/02/2022 12:30

I might get fish and chips a couple of times a year in an emergency, and a very occasional Indian, can’t remember the last time. We don’t eat pizza or McDonald’s. We do eat out fairly frequently and I’ll sometimes pick up a coffee if I’m out and about.

Intrigued to know what “a Greggs” is.

veevee04 · 11/02/2022 12:31

I used to have them 3/4 times a week as I couldn't be arsed cooking a big meal. I've started meal planning and if I still can't be arsed I will have a freezer tea saved a lot of money we are down to one a week usually a chippy tea which is a tenner.
