I'm proud to be a woman too

Just in the back of Adele's speech last night at the brits which appears to have kicked off on Twitter... just wondering... am I actually being unreasonable to being proud of my sexuality too?

If members of the lgbt community want acceptance and open mindedness to their sexuality choice of being none binary, why is it wrong for others to be proud of who they are too?

Is being a woman a sexuality now?

CaveMum · 09/02/2022 11:49

YANBU. It tells you everything you need to know about TRA's that when a woman says "I'm proud to be a woman; a female artist" they hear some kind of fatwa against trans/non-binary people.

Now if it had been a transwoman saying the same thing on prime time TV they'd be falling over themselves to spout forth about how stunning and brave they are.

Wednesdayafternoon · 09/02/2022 11:50

@ErickBroch well it's just who I am, gender sexuality etc. To me, it's the same thing.

OP posts:
AryaStarkWolf · 09/02/2022 11:50

Exactly. If Adele had been a transwoman standing up there and said "I'm proud to be a woman" she'd be applauded and everyone would be agreeing what an amazing woman she is..........but actual woman aren't allowed to say they're proud to be women....bizarre times we're in

Lockheart · 09/02/2022 11:50

Since when was female a sexuality?

fablett · 09/02/2022 11:51

Me too OP. Women and girls face real and different challenges from boys and men. To have overcome these and made a success of my life makes me very proud to be a woman and very proud of the many women in my life who have done the same.

I totally reject the concept of a man identifying as a woman and any man who says he knows what it feels like to be a woman can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Kittykat93 · 09/02/2022 11:51

Female is a sex not a sexuality

Wednesdayafternoon · 09/02/2022 11:52

@Lockheart I didn't mean any offence by using the term sexuality in my post. I never know what the right word to use now a days without causing offence or meaning something else.

OP posts:
BobHadBitchTits · 09/02/2022 11:54

@Wednesdayafternoon

No one is offended. The word just doesn't (and hasn't ever) mean what you think it does.

Sex - male/female etc
Sexuality - straight/gay etc

cookiemonster2468 · 09/02/2022 11:54

"their sexuality choice of being non-binary"? Hmm

Non-binary isn't a sexuality. I think you should probably read up a bit on what you're actually talking about before commenting.

No one is saying that you shouldn't be proud of who you are.

Wednesdayafternoon · 09/02/2022 11:56

@cookiemonster2468 I used the wrong term, it's already been cleared up but thank you!

Sorry but why are women not allowed to say they're proud to be women?

I don't understand this comment.

I'm a woman and I feel fine to say I'm proud of it, and I hear women saying it all the time.

StopStartStop · 09/02/2022 11:57

I'm a woman. I think women and girls are amazing - strong, competent, full of potential. I am heterosexual, I think men are attractive sexually but I acknowledge they often behave like bastards (some - but how are we supposed to know which? It's like rapists - perhaps not all men but how are we to know?). I also think men remain men despite hormone treatments, surgeries, or wearing dresses.

Good for Adele. I hope she meant it.

CaveMum · 09/02/2022 12:07

@onelittlefrog the point is that there are people on Twitter attacking Adele for saying she is proud to be a woman and claiming that she is being transphobic/discriminating against non-binary people for daring to use those words.

It’s quite the reach.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/02/2022 12:11

Where are people kicking off?
Is it a few token tweets from the permanently offended or is it a genuine upset felt throughout a community?

Soemthing we will never know.. a anyone who asks questions tends to get shot down!

I'm not proud to be a woman. It's nothing I've done, why should I be proud? Makes as much sense as being proud to be white or English or whatever. I'm not ashamed of it and I like being a woman, but for me pride is the wrong word.

If what Adele means she is proud to be a woman artist, having succeeded in an industry which does not make that easy, then sure that's fair enough.

CorrBlimeyGG · 09/02/2022 12:15

It's fine to be proud to be a woman. It's fine to be whatever sex or gender you are.

But please learn the difference between sex, sexuality, and gender. It's not about causing offence, it's about not making yourself look stupid.

Notwithittoday · 09/02/2022 12:17

I wondered if she’d get backlash for that.
We were watching and my husband actually said ‘well said, Adele’ when she said she was proud to be a woman.

AryaStarkWolf · 09/02/2022 12:18

Sorry but why are women not allowed to say they're proud to be women?

I don't know, ask those who are removing the word from women's health information, women's sanitary products and those thinking Adele "may be a TERF" for saying she's proud to be a woman, a female artist

I don't understand this comment.

I'm a woman and I feel fine to say I'm proud of it, and I hear women saying it all the time.

Good, so do I and I hope women stay feeling fine to say it because that right is slowly trying to be taken from us.....

Totally agree with this.

I don't feel stupid for using the wrong word. Life is a learning curve, we ALL make mistakes. I don't need to be made to feel stupid just because I used the wrong word. But thanks again for pointing out one error Which has already been cleared up and that I've acknowledged and apologised for 👍🏼

But moving forward, that one word wasn't the reason for my thread so if anyone else wants to correct me then it's ok you don't need to, it's already been done, but if you do want to talk about the Adele backlash etc then please feel free to comment ☺️

Put it much better than I was trying to
