IL's came to our house for Christmas dinner. Asked what they could bring.

last year when I said mince pies they bought 1 per person (they were big Costco ones though). So this year I said, ham and cheese for tea time.

They bought huge pack of Costco ham, too much for us all to eat before it went off. And a Supermarket cheeseboard.

Hardly anyone had tea as they were all stuffed. I cut into one block of cheese but did say that I would have more the next night with some crackers.

They were going home on Boxing Day, and MIL took the cheese with her! DH had offered not knowing what I had said, but she knew I liked it and still took it back.

Am I being unreasonable. After all we did feed them and get all the alcohol so is a cheeseboard too much to ask to be left behind?

PestoMonster · 31/12/2007 15:37

Good grief!
How rude!!!!!!!!!!!

If you bring something then you should leave it.

If it were very good cheese I would have arm-wrestled her for it.

Bouncingturtle · 31/12/2007 15:43

YANBU - that is rude and ignorant. Yes it was polite of your DH to offer it back, but your MIl should have been polite enough to say no.

pinetreedog · 31/12/2007 15:45

Your dh had offered it to her, though. So she maybe thought it was better she take it. If someone offers my food back to me to take home at the end of the night, I assume they don't really want it and quite often I do take it away with me.
