Do any of you have a pet that you actually just can't fucking stand?

My cat. Approx 11 years old and counting! Wink I've had him for a decade. A part of me does love him, but he's a knob and lessens my quality of life rather than add anything to it. He's so whiney and food obsessed and I am seldom able to sleep the whole night through because of him.
When he departs I shall be sad, but I won't miss him, and there will be relief in a way.
He has a wonderful life here with us, and I won't give him away, because he's old and is our responsibility.
Have you ever had a love/hate relationship with a family pet?

Pretty much every single one of my rats at one point or the other has been thoroughly hated Grin The little bastards will pull clothes into their cage to make holes in, while free roaming their favourite thing is to find any and all rubbish bags and climb in them and drag everything out, if you have food they are in your face climbing up you to steal it. We've had rats in the bed at 3am because they've escaped. One boy used to chew the damn walls.

But I love the little fuckers dearly and can't imagine not having rats in my life even if some times I want to murder them especially one of the current rats who is the greediest creature ever and will launch out of his cage at you if you open the doors to see if you have food. None of them bite though unless its the aforementioned rat thinking you're food and he's never made me bleed.

My rats once escaped from their cage, booted up the computer, got into the BIOS and changed a load of random settings (at least, I think they were random…), while we were away for the weekend.

Our Bengal is a typical Bengal, feral basically. He hates our female siamese who is in love with Dh (it's fully reciprocated), Dh yells at the Bengal for bullying his girlfriend and so it goes on. Bengal decided to make known the unfairness of this by pissing on Dh's face while he slept...

@BellatricksStrange because they are living beings that people love so are never 100% perfect. They are not toys.

Chichimcgee · 07/02/2022 18:00

There's a huge second hand market for pets.

What an utterly revolting thing to say!

DoNotGetADog · 07/02/2022 18:02

Good luck - our cat is 23!!!

Monopolyiscrap · 07/02/2022 18:02

Yep it is, as if they are toys. Living beings are never 100% perfect either. Just like human beings, all pets have something that will irritate you about them.

ClaudineClare · 07/02/2022 18:10

@BellatricksStrange

Why would anyone keep a pet they don't want 100%? Whenever I've had a pet I didn't want, for whatever reason, I just sold it or gave it away. There's a huge second hand market for pets.
That is so sad. Poor animals.

Pretty sure I've seen you trolling on other posts too.. bog off!
KittenSpawnOfSatan · 07/02/2022 18:16

@Susu49 because neither of us like cats ! We’re dog people.

Susu49 · 07/02/2022 18:17

@KittenSpawnOfSatan then why do you have him? Can't you rehome him so you'll all be happier?

KittenSpawnOfSatan · 07/02/2022 18:17

@Shannith easier to just open the door and let him free.

KittenSpawnOfSatan · 07/02/2022 18:18

@Susu49 No, because the kids want him. So it’s a dilemma. We hate him, kids love him.

Susu49 · 07/02/2022 18:20

@Kittenpaws94 that's really sad. I hope as he grows up and mellows out, he grows on you.

LindaLaHugh · 07/02/2022 18:28

This is mine plotting my imminent demise

Oops meant @KittenSpawnOfSatan

Dont be so irresponsible. Own it. You made a mistake - that's fine. But do the right thing by him and take him to the local rescue so they can find him the home he deserves. If you just let him out anything could happen to him

Cheeseandlobster · 07/02/2022 19:22

And actually reading your flippant tone @KittenSpawnOfSatan has made me furious. Easier for who? Easier for you and your husband who brought the poor cat into your household. He didn't have a choice. Letting him go would not be easier for him. What sort of people are you?

KateMcCallister · 07/02/2022 19:24

@Molly70

Can’t you just leave a bowl of dry food out so he can eat without bothering you in the night? I volunteer for a cat rescue and all the cats get access to dry food 24/7 without issue.
I do this and my 14yo cat, despite having a bowl full of food, will STILL come and kick off for food. Then ignore it and go back to [my] bed when I get up. She's a dick but I love her to pieces and I sincerely hope she lives to a healthy 20+
BlackSatinBand · 07/02/2022 19:27

We used to have two cats, brother and sister. Our girl was adorable - placid, gentle, affectionate and as long as you fed her and stroked her she was no bother. The boy was a little shit, though. Scratched, hissed, hated people, hated his sister and was generally miserable & moody.

I was still heartbroken when he died. I got used to having him scratch my face and hoss to wake me up at 5am for food Grin

BlackSatinBand · 07/02/2022 19:27

hiss

StScholastica · 07/02/2022 19:42

Yep, cat has dementia, it's not her fault but OMG she's not easy.
Constantly pesters for food (even when she's just been fed).
Beats up the dog.
Shredded 2 sofas (in a matter of hours) that cost £2k each.
Killed a squirrel and ate half of it. I found the body on the kitchen floor.
Shat on DSs bed.
Regularly pees on the doormat and looks at me whilst she's doing it.
Scratched our new car (roof and bonnet)
Keeps threatening to scratch next doors car Blush
Licked the Christmas turkey.
Forgets she has a cat flap and sits on the front doorstep howling to come in at 4am.
Usually friendly but just occasionally likes yo bite viciously (when you're not expecting it).
She's 14.

KittenSpawnOfSatan · 07/02/2022 19:42

@Cheeseandlobster flippant tone is right. He’s a nasty little squirt. Hence contributing to a thread about nasty little squirts.

autienotnaughty · 07/02/2022 19:44

@Pancakeorcrepe yes I agree my oh has a tendency to be annoyed if the dog gets mud on him. As if if it's the dogs responsibility to wipe himself down after a walk! I work with children good parenting does not always equal well behaved children and vice versa, so it makes sense that there are some pet owners that are genuinely trying everything for little improvement. (Obviously I'm hoping I fall in that category!!)
