SAUSAGES!

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 16:30

I eat a good diet, mostly unprocessed and love cooking. I’m a bit less fit since pandemic but slim, otherwise healthy.

Mostly eat stuff like fish, chicken, veg, make my own sauces, etc.

But I want to enjoy sausages, too!
I’m not afraid of the calories, but have heard horror stories about processed meats.
AIBU to hope that eating a plate of sausages twice per week won’t harm me, or will the sausagey damage seep in over time?
I like the ’Naked’ brand of chipolata, no nitrates, etc, but it’s still goddammit sausage innit?

Is there such a thing as death by sausage? Do I walk away from the pork shelf now whilst I still have time? Grin

Dunno but I'm making toad in the hole for tea so....

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 06/02/2022 16:34

I love sausages, like proper dirty 99p for 20 frozen sausages. Not harmed me yet and been eating then since I was a kid haha

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/02/2022 16:34

Nothing wrong with sausages, as long as they are a good one.

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 16:37

Enablers!

I go to the butchers and enjoy their sausages a few times a week

mrsbyers · 06/02/2022 16:39

I think sausages are my favourite food ever , anything from the chicken ones our butcher makes to the Asda extra special pork ones and even Richmond vegan ones but I would draw the line at the really cheap ones as I worked in a sausage roll factory once and saw what mechanically removed meat looks like before it’s dyed pink

Baystard · 06/02/2022 16:40

Nothing wrong with sausages OP, go for plain ones with 95%+ meat, they're a regular in our house - it's basically minced pork. Aldi and Lidl ones are great.

Marmm · 06/02/2022 16:41

AIBU to hope that eating a plate of sausages twice per week won’t harm me how many are on the plate?

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 16:43

6 chipolatas on plate. They’re sort of thin.

Sounds good to me

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 16:43

@Butterismylife

Ok 7.
So from a pack of 8 you're leaving one 🤔

I bloody love a sausage sarnie

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 16:48

No there’s about 14/16 in pack. Last two days.
Eat alone, no bread or sauce. Cooked in butter 💕

The really cheap ones are better than the Richmond ones imo. Split them open, knead in some seasoning, chilli and onion, make into patttes and fry them.

DoctorSnortles · 06/02/2022 16:50

I want sausages now.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/02/2022 16:51

If you squeeze the sausage inners out into balls in the frying pan, cook them like that, add some cooked tagliatelle and a decent dollop of pesto, you can be sure the carcinogenic properties of The Sausage will have been suitably purged by the pretentiousness.

Thus, guilt free sausages.

Roominmyhouse · 06/02/2022 16:53

I love a sausage (snarf). Got sausage and mash for tea tonight but also love a sausage sanger on white bread with loads of ketchup. Yum!

CornishGem1975 · 06/02/2022 16:58

Bloody love a sausage and nobody will convince me not to eat them!

Mammyloveswine · 06/02/2022 17:00

I used to work behind the deli at tesco! I loved the cumberland rings they did on the hot counter!

I feel sad tescos dont have the big deli counters anymore!

Chloemol · 06/02/2022 17:00

Sausages is the one veggie thing I eat. I don’t eat meat ones

Cauldron sausages are far better than any meat one I have found

evtheria · 06/02/2022 17:03

@Mammyloveswine I won’t eat a Cumberland unless it’s in a swirly ring... which means nowadays I never eat them, so hard to find!

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 06/02/2022 17:05

Nigella Lawson once explained that her skin was so amazing as she often eats sausages, and they contain all the bits of pork that aren't pretty, many bits which contain collagen

So there

It's good for your skin Smile

Bit of collagen and fat, also pork contains a lot of iron and many women are iron deficient

And a good source of protein

Go for it

An odd thing to have for tea though I must say, as I am on my own, I eat what I fancy whenever. My son, who is currently in France for work, had cottage pie for breakfast yesterday Confused. He and colleagues took leftovers back to the hotel from their restaurant meal the night before. No accounting for taste.

Toad in the hole is lovely! I don't mind sausages, Cumberland or Lincolnshire, with onions. Yum. Bangers and mash are divine with lots of onion gravy.

BrioNotBiro · 06/02/2022 17:09

Branch out and get some pasta as well as sausage; sausage lasagne:
www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/express_lasagne_51375

It sounds horrible but is delicious (with decent bangers) and quick too.

Ariela · 06/02/2022 17:11

Proper butchers sausages are SO much better than supermarket. And generally only contain meat and seasoning.
