SAUSAGES!

I eat a good diet, mostly unprocessed and love cooking. I’m a bit less fit since pandemic but slim, otherwise healthy.

Mostly eat stuff like fish, chicken, veg, make my own sauces, etc.

But I want to enjoy sausages, too!
I’m not afraid of the calories, but have heard horror stories about processed meats.
AIBU to hope that eating a plate of sausages twice per week won’t harm me, or will the sausagey damage seep in over time?
I like the ’Naked’ brand of chipolata, no nitrates, etc, but it’s still goddammit sausage innit?

Is there such a thing as death by sausage? Do I walk away from the pork shelf now whilst I still have time? Grin

I tried the Cauldron veggie ones as I thought they might be healthier, but the list of additives was grim.
Don't know what was worse, them or the pink slime of Richmond.
I've found a Sainsbo one that is 95% meat, so I stick to that when DH has withdrawal symptoms.

forinborin · 06/02/2022 17:16

I am probably the most hardcore on the thread, I am making my own sausage in bulk twice a year and freezing several kilos at once. Old Polish recipe, with Krakow of course being the sausage capital of the world.
Far far far superior to anything store made.

Chocoqueen · 06/02/2022 17:16

I've been debating whether to do sausage, bacon or fish finger sandwiches for tea this evening... I think there's only one option now 😁

17CherryTreeLane · 06/02/2022 17:16

I love the Hairy Bikers Sausage casserole - yum!

Pyewhacket · 06/02/2022 17:17

I enjoy a good sausage too Grin

TimBoothseyes · 06/02/2022 17:17

Richmond meat free sausages are the best.

Gowithme · 06/02/2022 17:18

Sausage and mash is literally my favourite meal in the whole world.

Suzi888 · 06/02/2022 17:19

I used to eat them raw…
I’m vegetarian now.

Would you eat a veggie sausage dinner once a week? If it’s your only meaty treat I guess it won’t hurt, can you buy a high quality sausage? Confused I’ve no idea!

Love sausages, but they've gotta be Tesco Finest. Good quality sausages. I don't want lips and noses!

NewYearCalavicci · 06/02/2022 17:28

@Sirzy

I go to the butchers and enjoy their sausages a few times a week
Snarf ! um does his missus know Grin

Sorry I am feeling childish .

I like tescos Cumberland chipolatas they come in packs of 12 ( I think ) I get a pack roughly every other week

Confrontayshunme · 06/02/2022 17:30

The heck vegan/gluten free sausages are really nice but are just as processed as normal nitrite free ones. Could you do something like use fewer of them but put them in a stew or potato soup or something?

Wineat5isfine · 06/02/2022 17:30

Sausages are life! DH will only eat butchers sausages, but I’m very partial (along with both DC) to Richmond sausages (hangs head in shame).

I’ve tried the veggie ones. Nope.

Currently making a full on roast dinner and now all I want is sausages 😆

19lottie82 · 06/02/2022 17:31

I’ve got a sausage casserole in the slow cooker 😋

Mammyloveswine · 06/02/2022 17:33
@Mammyloveswine I won’t eat a Cumberland unless it’s in a swirly ring... which means nowadays I never eat them, so hard to find!
They were lush werent they??

WheresTheLambSauce · 06/02/2022 17:38

Don't think of it as processed meat, think of it as being conscientious of waste and wishing to use more of the animal like our ancestors would have Wink

(Plus if you want to get technical, pretty much all of our food has been processed in some way.)

shivbo2014 · 06/02/2022 17:41

I'm eating the extra special Asda chilli ones now, in a brioche hot dog roll and fried onions. Amazing

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 17:43

@blyn72

Why is toad in the hole an odd thing to have for supper? Confused

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 17:43

Booths do a curly Cumberland.

And to the pp who suggested it being an odd meal - I spend the rest of the week eating very varied and healthy meals. Since I don’t eat processed stuff, these are my treat, like another person might eat chocolates or a pizza.

I miss the swirly ring! Haven't seen one since the 90s

But that wasn't what she said Grin

She is either being disingenuous or blissfully unaware of the language of the Common People...

blyn, "tea" is what some of us call the evening meal. Particularly if we had dinner at lunchtime.

Maybe 'tea' is different depending where they live?

Up north it's breakfast, dinner (not lunch), tea and supper is an evening meal before bed.

PurpleThursdays · 06/02/2022 18:01

But defo not odd to have toad in the hole for tea, it was delish with veggies and gravy.

BestKnitterInScotland · 06/02/2022 18:06

We like sausages too. The "extra special" chipolata types, usually 2 packs for £4 but I buy them when I see them in the reduced to clear.

The bright pink Richmond ones are disgusting though.

Butterismylife · 06/02/2022 18:10

The Booths curly Cumberland !
