To not want to work at my local McDonald's in case someone I know comes in?

I currently work in care, but have started to look for other jobs mainly because of bad management and I feel so overworked because of lack of staff.

I’ve applied for retail jobs, but got no response or rejected. So I applied to work at McDonald’s, there’s a few 20-30 mins from me who’s hiring. I got an interview at a McDonald’s 20 mins from me next week, my local McDonald’s is also hiring. It’s a 10 min walk from my house, ideally I’d like to work at my local McDonald’s but again it’s my local McDonald’s which means I’ll see people I know, school mums, neighbours etc basically everyone who knows me and that’s putting me off. I don’t know why, a part of thinks just fuck it and apply, and there’s the other part of me that’s scared. Tbh I’d like to work my way up and hopefully become a manager one day, it’s silly but has anyone worked at a place like this in your local area?

Honestly I wouldn't even think anything of it, a job is a job. I would much rather bump into someone in McDs than someone I knew from school sitting in for my absent GP for a very intimate issue wanted the ground to absolutely open up 😂😂

Never be embarrassed to work anywhere. I’ve done a lot of jobs, shops, off license, market stall when I was studying. I learnt so much from them all and now in my current career I often recall back experiences I had back in the day. As someone else said never be embarrassed about doing an honest days work. The local job will be far easier

A job is a job. Anyone who looks down on you, well, you are already above them.

Good for you OP - you are earning your living legally - don't see anything to be ashamed of at all.

It's a good career path.

My best friend used to work there, went from floor staff to shift manager. She enjoyed working there and did for over a decade.

Every time I went in I'd just smile at her and say hello. She was good at her job, and hardworking.

I don't judge anyone for their career choice, they are earning a wage and gaining skills.

I wouldn't judge anyone for working at McDonald's (or anywhere else for that matter). I haven't worked in one but worked in a few restaurants/bars before I went into teaching. A job is a job and contributes to society.

I think McDonald's seem like a really good employer- progression for those that want it - one lady who works in our local one is now a manager and mentioned the other day that she has worked for McDonald's for nearly 30 years so they must be doing something right!

They also seem very inclusive which I think is a sign of a good employer. There are two members of staff at my local branch who have learning difficulties- both have been given a chance of working at McDonald's and have now been there a few years.

Good luck OP!
