To not want to work at my local McDonald's in case someone I know comes in?

I currently work in care, but have started to look for other jobs mainly because of bad management and I feel so overworked because of lack of staff.

I’ve applied for retail jobs, but got no response or rejected. So I applied to work at McDonald’s, there’s a few 20-30 mins from me who’s hiring. I got an interview at a McDonald’s 20 mins from me next week, my local McDonald’s is also hiring. It’s a 10 min walk from my house, ideally I’d like to work at my local McDonald’s but again it’s my local McDonald’s which means I’ll see people I know, school mums, neighbours etc basically everyone who knows me and that’s putting me off. I don’t know why, a part of thinks just fuck it and apply, and there’s the other part of me that’s scared. Tbh I’d like to work my way up and hopefully become a manager one day, it’s silly but has anyone worked at a place like this in your local area?

I wouldn’t work there but then I wouldn’t eat there. Anyone that eats there really has no right to judge you.

I saw this earlier but didn't have time to reply. I just wanted to say, I'm sorry you aren't currently valued at your job. Good luck finding a new one. Flowers

Oh, that's so nice! Long may you flourish! A ten minute walk sounds lovely, also.

Hello guys, just came on here to say I got the job at my local McDonald’s. Went for the orientation meeting yesterday and got my uniform. My first shift is on Sunday 6pm-2am. It’s late, but not a problem since I’m walking 10 mins to my house 😅. I also went for an interview at Greggs, whilst waiting for the outcome of my application at McDonald’s. I didn’t think I was going to get it, but Greggs also offered me a job. So don’t know how I’m going to do it, the job at Greggs is part time so will just go and see how it goes. I told a few people I know that I got the job at McDonald’s, they also live in the area. Most were fine with it and supportive, but one did say why would I get such a “humiliating job” and specially in our area where everyone can see me work there. Funny how the person who said this is unemployed but whatever. I am the sort of person to work any job, and use that money to invest and a stepping stone to something else. I am not fussy. A job is a job at the end of the day.

The attitude of the person you know who's unemployed but wouldn't work at McDonald's🤦‍♀️🙄Jesus Christ.

balalake · 18/02/2022 14:07

Good luck with your new job.

mclovinit · 19/02/2022 12:34

@Toanewstart23 the McDonald's job is just night shifts, 6pm-2/3am 4 times a week. And Greggs is part time day shifts. I don't know how I will manage. Will just have to see how it goes, if it becomes too much I'll just stick with McDonald's. But I'll find a way.

Of all the big brands McDonalds has an excellent training programme. You could join and get an apprenticeship or other opportunities. Someone I really admire did this and she now runs a big organisation.

There is no shame in working anywhere. Communities years ago had people in that community working all the jobs.

Please go to the interview!

Does the father have the children when you at work?

Toanewstart23 · 19/02/2022 13:01

You’ll be getting up to do school run on four hours sleep

Good company
Safe job
But doesn’t seem compatible with young family

user1471538283 · 19/02/2022 13:01

Sorry I've seen your update! Very well done! You've clearly got it going on to be offered two jobs!

Humiliating by working, contributing to society, the economy and your own self worth? Whilst they are unemployed? Right.

I think you'll go far!

mclovinit · 19/02/2022 17:05

@Toanewstart23 how do you know if I have children? Don't think I've mentioned it anywhere, phew I was starting to get paranoid thinking you was someone I know in real life, then realised you're not 😂😂

It's a secure job too don't think I've ever heard of a McDonalds branch closing and in this climate that's majorly important.

Archersandlemonade · 19/02/2022 20:01

A family member works for McDonald - it’s a great job! Hours to suit , great development opportunities- high standards too / if his uniform is creased they have an ironing Baird out the back and make you iron it before he starts! Don’t be ashamed ever !! Xx

Drivingish · 19/02/2022 20:07

Is the person you know who's unemployed on benefits or living off partner's income because if so the bloody cheek of it - telling you mcds is humiliating while they're living off other people's work. Even if they're independently wealthy it's incredibly rude.

Nothing at all wrong with working any legit job - 1000 times better to work at McDonalds than as a dodgy lawyer for example (not saying lawyers are generally dodgy).
