So this so called rebate has to be paid back. It isnt exactly a rebate then is it?

We're getting £150 off our council tax bill, but council tax is going up this April anyway. So I guarantee our monthly payments won't be much less.

Council tax bands A -D get £150 off their council tax 2022-23 (bitter, am band E even though neighbours have all extended and loads have more bedrooms/ rec rooms now). Stupid utility thing - a loan of £200 repeatable over five years.

Is the council tax gift pro rata ie if you move from a Band E to a Band D between April 22 and April 23, would you get part of the £150?

Conversely if you were to (for example) move in with a partner when you'd previously both had your own homes you'd only repay £200 instead of £400

Well, presumably someone else moves in to their old place and say it was their first home, is paying a debt they never actually had.

Was this scheme dreamt up by someone off The Apprentice? as its gone to prove a really vote winner for the Tories - which apparently is an old english name for Robber!

@oopsIdiditagaintoo I don’t think that detail is available yet but do you mean if you move? Mine if the house I’ve referred to have been reassessed and raised despite extensions.

Yes, I meant if you moved house. My mum is downsizing, so will likely move from a Band E to a Band C mid year. I wondered if you had to be in the Band A-D property from 1/4/22 to qualify.

Oh I see - I haven’t seen anything on detail , esp as some people may upfront and some by instalments.

I think it is particularly evil as it gives people debt they haven't actually asked for and I think a majority won't realise is a debt until the repayments come... just awful.
