To think this burns more calories than running?

I got a mini trampoline a few weeks ago as I wanted something I could do to move my back while watching tv.
I've had lower back pain on and off for a few years and it's worse when sitting for too long.
I've been running on it for about 20-30 mins a day (not every day) and i've lost 3 lbs this week and 9 since I got it.

I hate gyms and struggle to stay motivated unless i'm exercising outside but running on this feels like i'm burning way more calories, has anyone else had good results using one?

Bought one a year ago at great expense . It's was £360 with the handle so no expense spared.

I then read it could cause a prolapse and that was enough for me to put it away without even bloody trying it once!

Maybe I should get it back out?

Stuffin · 06/02/2022 05:35

Thanks Op. Was looking for inexpensive cardio equipment for the home and on the back of this purchased one from Amazon.

First go yesterday with just fast jogging and managed 20 mins. Given that I strength train this will be a useful addition as I prefer to exercise at home rather than outside or at a gym.

Looubylou · 06/02/2022 08:45

I've got 1 in the garage from the 90's! No handle. You have inspired me to get it out - experimentally though, as I do have a prolapse. I'll try walking.

tackling · 06/02/2022 09:41

From googling it the other day, if you're at risk of prolapses already then it might not be a good idea. I couldn't find anything to suggest it caused a risk though in otherwise healthy people.

I was confused by this as surely then running is just as much as a problem but maybe I just don't understand the risk.

Googling seemed to suggest bouncing might not be great but running when you have one foot connected with the rebounder at all times wasn't a problem. Given I just want to run then I will take the risk.

tackling · 06/02/2022 10:12

Yeah maybe when they say bouncing they're thinking proper hurling yourself into the air over and over, not jogging on a bouncy surface.

I love mine so much and would replace it if and when it breaks, it turned my whole life around really by making me love exercise.

Buttermaflooby · 06/02/2022 10:21

This was suggested to me by my osteopath and I lost 2 st before my wedding just doing half an hour jogging on it a night for about 4 months. Keep telling myself I need to get back on it but it's still safely ensconced in the garage 😕

Mine was £200ish as we live in a flat and needed a silent one. I was worried about the money at first but using it every day for almost two years it's worked out very cheaply.

Next time I'm eyeing up the Bellicon range (but they are properly £££) Grin

yesimbragging · 06/02/2022 16:16

Ha! It was ME who made the other thread a few weeks ago! I'm glad to see a PP got one after reading it Grin

There were a lot of arguments about calorie burn and denial about the benefits. I use fitbit and although the actual reported calorie figures may not be accurate, I always burn far more on the trampoline than any other exercise, even if I set the exercise up as 'walking' - I put screenshots on the thread.

There was also some confusion about 'how' I jumped, and couldn't get their head around my feet never leaving the mat and I was still able to type and work. If you sit on your bed with your feet off the floor and bent half under you, and 'bounce' on the bed, you don't jump in the air but feel the muscles engage to keep you balanced and moving. I have no experience with prolapse but I would suggest that you'd be surprised at how much you burn even bouncing very very gently. I got mine for £40 at argos.

This thread made me buy one! It just got delivered in the post!
I would love to lose around 20-25lbs and have started eating better recently after copious amounts of autumn/winter comfort foods Blush

I just hope it really is good for your joints!

How do you find a silent one? Could you share the model? And is it really completely silent?

Stuffin · 10/02/2022 10:52

I can manage 40 mins jogging on it and I don't get any knee pain whereas 20 mins on an exercise bike hurts.

Sure, I bought this model. It's started squeaking a bit lately but not too bad and that's after almost 2 years of daily use. I guess nothing stays perfect!

Have you tried bounce fit body fitness classes? They are awesomely fun, and i burn 500-600 cals in a class that has 45 mins of cardio work and then 15 mins of toning (still on the trampoline!)

DogsAndGin · 10/02/2022 15:20

@Ylvamoon

🤔 not sure if a mini trampoline is good for your jonts.

But then, if you have fun and you get results, why not!

But losing weight is good for your joints… so keep at it! And well done! Grin

Sounds great, could you post a link? Smile
BrioNotBiro · 10/02/2022 18:42

I too have just bought one on the strength of this thread! It's being delivered Saturday, can't wait.

www.bouncefitbody.com/online-classes

They do online classes but I've only been to the classes in real life....I'm a bit lazy about working out on my own...

Stuffin · 14/02/2022 07:17

Just come back to this thread and 1 week of 40 mins 'running' a day has really accelerated my weight loss.

OP thank you for saving my pennies when I was going to buy an expensive treadmill to run inside when a rebounder is doing the same thing for me at a fraction of the cost and space.

TidyDancer · 14/02/2022 07:23

I do Bounce classes. Started by going to a church hall near me a few years ago and then moved to online when covid kicked off.

If done consistently then I think it's very effective exercise, you can burn a significant amount of calories in a 45 minute class. Plus it's actually fun too!

sparklins · 14/02/2022 07:58

Hi all! I've had to unfortunately send mine back 😭 it was not as easy to fold as advertised and I really do not have the room to keep it assembled 24/7 . The bar also needs screwing in every time you set it up so effectively the time it took for me to assemble and disassemble it each morning would have been equivalent to the time it "saved" me on workouts so a bit null and void.

Mine is like that but I don't have the handle attached and I have a spare room to keep it assembled.

But yeah mine also wouldn't be easy or practical to fold and unfold each time.

Mayhemmumma · 14/02/2022 08:59

I do a bounce rebounding class and love it!

It's gentle on your joints because the shock is absorbed, to protect your back bounce on balls of feet not heels leaning weight slightly forward.
