To think this burns more calories than running?

I got a mini trampoline a few weeks ago as I wanted something I could do to move my back while watching tv.
I've had lower back pain on and off for a few years and it's worse when sitting for too long.
I've been running on it for about 20-30 mins a day (not every day) and i've lost 3 lbs this week and 9 since I got it.

I hate gyms and struggle to stay motivated unless i'm exercising outside but running on this feels like i'm burning way more calories, has anyone else had good results using one?

do you wear trainers?

NoLongerTroels · 03/02/2022 16:14

We had a full size one in the garden it did wonders for my pelvic floor. Started out with only being able to bounce about 4 times before running indoors for a wee, then after a few weeks of Dd making me keep her company on it I could jump about for ages. We also had a big yoga ball in the living room and I'd sit on it to watch TV, you can't help but roll about and have fun on it well I couldn't it worked wonders for tightening my abs.

@BobHadBitchTits

Did you post about your mini trampoline the other day?
No I haven't posted about anything for ages Grin Will see if I can find the other thread, was it in AIBU?

@IMONTHETOILET

I was suggested mini trampolining or cycling as good low impact exercise by my orthopedic consult. However, a gynaecologist then told me that trampolining of any kind is the absolute worst exercise for a woman to do and she has seen a huge surge in prolapse cases due to women using trampolines as regular exercise.
Whaaaat? How can that cause a prolapse? Confused

I love mine and use it every day. It's helped me to develop really strong muscles.

Not sure how it would lead to prolapses?

FreyaFromTheFens · 03/02/2022 16:37

@TheRealHousewife

I was thinking of getting a mini trampoline as I’d heard they were good if you had painful joints/muscles. I think I’d need one with a bar/handle attached as my balance is pants. Any recommendations! 🙏
I posted the link to the one I got and thought I'd hold the handle but it's easy enough to run without.

The other thread was a bout a woman who walked on a trampoline while working from home

I bought a little one after reading the thread and I love it, I cant run, knackered knees, but I can go miles on the mini trampoline and my knees don’t even feel it!

Hiya… I first came across info on rebounders several years ago, when I was watching a documentary named “The Cancer Answer”.
The presenter guy explained everything.
I was impressed enough to buy one that had all of his recommendations.
I purchased mine when it was in special offer from The Juice Man - Jason Vale. It also came with a carry bag.
Anyway I was not very fit before purchasing and using it.
I did lose weight, but that was hard to give all the credit to the rebounding, as I changed to a plant based lifestyle.
I lost almost two stone (steadily), but more to the point, my core strength improved, my posture straightened, my walking position (I’m told) looked better, and I gained so much confidence.
I started off with four/ five days a week with ten minute sessions, then over a period of about three months, I built up to forty minutes.
I believe when you get to that amount of time, your body sort of carries on burning calories even after you’ve stopped for a short time, bonus!
I can’t recommend it enough, I’m no youngster coz I’m heading towards seventy, but I don’t find it a strain.
I do Aldi urge you to wear a decent sport bra, coz although I don’t “jump” as such, I wouldn’t enjoy the boob bounce boogie! It feels more comfortable to have support during the exercise session.
I like to put either music on, or better still (for me) a music video.
I believe most CDs are 40/45 mins, so once you’ve built yourself up to that time, it makes it easier to know when your time is up.
Please get one with six legs and no less, I really can’t remember why, but that was the recommendation.
I also would say, that if you do watch The Cancer Answer, in order to learn what is said about rebounding, you might also be drawn into watching the whole film… I found it fascinating.
Good luck to all of you that give it a go.
Oh, to answer a pp, trainers arnt neck, and I’d be wary of using them on a trampoline, mini or otherwise.
I also wear layers, as I start off feeling chilly , specially when it’s low temps, but I soon start stripping off as I get warmer lol !!

Rawmum30 · 03/02/2022 17:07

Aren’t necessary! Sorry!!!!

TheRealHousewife · 03/02/2022 19:50

@FreyaFromTheFens thank you. I think we cross posted.

I Enjoyed your post @Rawmum30 , I’m trying to convince my other half that it would benefit me! Do you have a link for the Cancer Answer. I googled but results mixed and not sure which one you meant. Do you bounce in bare feet?

giveyou2reasons · 03/02/2022 21:43

I'm tempted to give it a go, too... It looks like it could be fun! I do have a birthday coming up, so might treat myself to one.

Pyriah · 03/02/2022 21:47

Mini trampoline is very healthy and easy on your joints. I have osteoporosis and was recommended to use one to build bone mass. Apparently that’s what Nasa uses to rebuild astronauts bones after they’ve been in space. In terms of weight loss though - exercise is a tiny part, it’s mostly calorie restriction. You don’t lose much weight by exercising.

rifling · 03/02/2022 21:50

What about if you have downstairs neighbours? Is it noisy?

Rawmum30 · 04/02/2022 03:46

I’ve not got a link to The Cancer Answer, it was quite some years ago that I watched it.
The presenter if I remember correctly was a dapper suited man (American?) he approached the cancer answer in a four part way, and rebounding was one of the parts.
I wish I did have a link tor you…
Yes, I rebound in bare feet, but if it’s icy cold, I wear the slipper socks that have rubbery nodules on the bottom to aid a non slip experience.
Hope that helps.

BoattoBolivia · 04/02/2022 04:05

I know my friend's daughter, who has type 1 diabetes, has to be really careful on trampolines as she uses the most energy when bouncing. They have to test her bloods almost every 10 minutes, which they don't have to do with any other exercise ,(she's 11)

UnUdderOne · 04/02/2022 05:08

OP which size did you get - there are two on that Amazon link.

SNUG2022 · 04/02/2022 09:01

OK, I'm interested now Smile

That's brilliant well done!

I got a new sports bra after realising that my old ones weren't up to the job with this Grin

Sounds great I might get one
I'm sure the kids will love it too

Louisianagumbo · 04/02/2022 13:41

When I was waiting for a back operation, I went to the physio at the hospital and they had me do a number of exercises, all to strengthen your core muscles to support your back and one of them was working on a mini trampoline. It keeps you slightly off balance so your core muscles, have to work harder to keep you from falling over, hence making them stronger. I was also told it was better for my joints then running on a hard surface. I still have my mini (rebounder) trampoline that I used but it's a handbag holder now. 😳 There were some great videos on YouTube but I used to use it watching Coronation Street. I must get it out again. Well done.

FusionChefGeoff · 04/02/2022 13:43

If you struggle to stay motivated to run then for you that's a rubbish way to burn calories. As you just won't go ergo running burns no calories.

If this works for you and you do it - it by default burns LOADS more calories than you running GrinGrin

roses2 · 04/02/2022 13:44

I've got a Rebounder and it is far softer on the joints and burns far more calories than running. So much misinformation on this thread!

10 minutes on the Rebounder is equivalent to 30 minutes of running. I've follow this video and put it on repeat if I want to do more than 10 minutes:

User48751490 · 04/02/2022 14:09

Just exhausted after watching that video roses2😂

Looks too intense for me and I would worry I would have a prolapse.

DancingQueen2018 · 04/02/2022 14:39

I used to do bounce classes and I’ve honestly never been fitter I’d regularly burn 600 cals in 45 mins. More importantly it was so much fun that I stuck at it!
