To say I've found a loo brush solution

I think I've found a solution to the famous mumsnet hatred and fear of a loo brush. Just replaced my old one with this little beauty

Silicon, no where for dirt to hide, easy to clean and tiny - takes up barely any space. Thoughts?

@ouch321

You've purchased a loo brush as a solution to the problem of not wanting to buy a loo brush... Confused
Exactly this

Just say no, kids!

Juniper68 · 01/02/2022 23:06

I got one ages ago from lidl. Weirdly I'd seen my first one at a b&b and thought it was fab. Came home and saw one that week in Lidl. Fate!! Grin

@BringYourOwnBoris

Sorry its still vile. Just swill some bloody bleach around the bowl. Hmm
How do you "swill" without a brush? Wooden spoon? Oar? Carving knife? Roll of wrapping paper? A long row of Lego bricks? Garden cane? Riding crop? Curtain track? Walking pole?
makingmiracles · 01/02/2022 23:12

Just train your family to squirt bleach Under the rim after flushing, very very rarely use the loo brush, when I do it’s mainly on a clean loo when cleaning the bathroom just to dislodge any built up limescale.

I’ve one. I’m grossed out by loo brushes but this has been fine.

That's worse. All you're doing is dying the poo white.
Davros · 01/02/2022 23:36

You can't "swill" a blockage which DH manages to cause weekly. I've had to hoi out one of these to get it away from me, it's currently on the upstairs terrace waiting for me to bag it. They're no better than the old ones, just different

HauntedDishcloth · 01/02/2022 23:51

This shouldn't be such a revelation as Flylady has sold a version for years - it has the extra angled bit.

BikiniB0tt0m · 01/02/2022 23:59

I use a toilet duck one that you dispose the head. You are meant to flush it on its own with nothing else in the bowl. I use one of these per week for a good clean. In between I clip a clump of toilet tissue to the end with squirt some toilet clear round the bowl wipe with the tissue and release in the bowl and flush.
To me I can still image poo bits getting stuck to the silicone bristles. 🤢

Wtf?! I’m embarrassed for you that you that you have a partner that does that AND that you take it upon yourself clean up after him. Fucking mortifying
Blinky21 · 02/02/2022 00:14

I second toilet duck fresh brush, would never have a loo brush

YaIz · 02/02/2022 00:34

I have a Joseph Joseph one with a holder which fixes to the wall. I got it free as a tester for John Lewis.

It’s OK. Compared with a traditional brush its easier to rinse clean by holding it in the flushing water, but I sometimes have to apply significant pressure to scrub away anything stuck to the sides of the loo.

If I need another brush I’d probably get a silicone one, but I’m not bothering to replace the ordinary toilet brush in the other loo in the house.

You're not meant to flush that sort of thing down the loo and it's very irresponsible of them to say you should.

Poo doesn't stick in the silicone bristles.

VanGoghsDog · 02/02/2022 00:42

@betwixtlives.

She didn't actually say she did it, only that she had removed a ruined loo brush and left it on the terrace (wtf to that though!?) before throwing it away.

This with bells on
Cheeseplantboots · 02/02/2022 02:29

There was a post on here a while ago about them. I immediately bought 3 of the more expensive Joseph Joseph ones. They’re rubbish in my opinion and it scratched the bowl badly on one of my toilets.

ExpatExpectations · 02/02/2022 03:04

I have 2 of the Joseph and Joseph ones, strange one toilet cleans better then the other with these (different manufacturers).

Still better than a normal bristle brush. But nothing beats a scrub by hand (er with gloves on) to get under the rim etc. clean and sparkly.

mycatisannoying · 02/02/2022 03:43

I got a double pack of silicon ones from Amazon, with holders. They are sleeker and more hygienic, but they're absolutely useless on stubborn stains Blush

TheFairyCaravan · 02/02/2022 04:00

We’ve got two silicone ones. We don’t have any problems with hem getting the toilets clean.

sashh · 02/02/2022 04:47

The solution is actually self cleaning toilets. If I am ever in a situation to buy a property I'm getting one.

Flabbyflabberghasted · 02/02/2022 06:25

On another note - what age do your kids learn to effectively remove poo marks etc from loo?

Lulu1919 · 02/02/2022 06:49

We have those in our loos
Work really well for the job they are designed for ...
Once a week we scrub loo with limescale remover and a scrubber sponge thing .

KeepYaHeadUp · 02/02/2022 07:02

@itbemay1

I've got this one and it's brilliant

MEKEET Silicone Toilet Brush and Holder,Bathroom Toilet Brush Holder Set,Silicone Toilet Cleaning Brush Kit with Soft Bristle Brush (Wall Mounted) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TTLV31R/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttiESJMQBHGN0MM3NNN2G0E

Was about to post this one - I HATE loo brushes but they've become a necessity with two boys. These are the excellent and we have them in all three bogs
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/02/2022 07:34

Couldn't see any dimensions, does it fit in the dishwasher?

RampantIvy · 02/02/2022 07:40

I don't have the MN horror of loo brushes, but there is absolutely no way that I would consider putting a loo brush in the dishwasher. That is really grim.

Just soak it in a bleach solution, put some rubber gloves on and hand wash it.
