To expect DS to invite only children he knows around for a playdate?

I've been on here before fretting about how to help DS make friends in his new school. "Notes in the bookbags", you all said. "Make arrangements for playdates" you all said.

So, DS sends Christmas cards to children in his class, and I think "perfect opportunity to slip in a note inviting for a play". So I get DS to choose four from his list of 25 names, and I duly put in notes. Feel very MN and Smug about being such a fab mother.

Out of the four kids who get invites, only one has responded. I, very pleased, have arranged for this child (we'll call him Josh to protect the innocent) to come round on the afternoon of New Year's Eve.

"Hey DS!" I announce. "Josh is coming on Monday. Isn't that great?"

"Who?"

"Josh Smith from your class".

"I don't know a Josh Smith".

So I've probed and probed and DS really doesn't seem to have a clue as to who this child is. And we've got him for at least two hours on Monday. And I even proposed he stay for tea.

Now what do I do????

Well?

How long has he been at new school? If a few weeks or more, then probably just having trouble matching names and faces. My DS can play with kids for ages before learning a name, unlike my two DS, first thing they ask.

Been there since September in Year 2. Considering he put together his own list of names for the Christmas cards, then selected the top four for invites, I'm not quite sure how he's got it so wrong I did wonder at the time that I'd never heard him mention a Josh.

Well, maybe this Josh is a nice boy. Even if he doesn't know him, you will know him by the end of the after noon.

Just see how it goes.

How funny - Just let them get on with it after a few minutes all will be fine but have a disney dvd handy just incase! How old are they?
