To dislike leaving the house in the morning

So this is really stupid but just wondering if it’s just me or if anybody else struggles with this.

Ever since I was little, I have hated leaving the house in the morning to go to school / work. I am always fine once I’ve actually left and arrived but I have this real dislike of actually going.

Very occasionally if I can’t face it I have a sick day. I mean like maybe twice a year max.

In jobs I’ve hated I’ve sometimes only been able to get myself in by telling myself I’ll go home and say I am ill if it’s really awful.

I sound really weird …

Bed is the greatest place in the world. But yes, weird. Grin

Desmondo2021 · 29/01/2022 20:31

It honestly sounds like you probably need to sort other issues out, be it find a job you enjoy or explore the possibility you have some anxiety related disorder

EmmaH2022 · 29/01/2022 20:37

Not sure
I'm not a morning person since forever. So as soon as I could start work later, I did.

But when I was at school/work, I hated the morning. I hated getting up, getting ready, leaving the house but unlike you, I didn't feel better on arrival.

To be honest YANBU. I'm undiagnosed ADD and have functioned pretty normally my whole life (40's, finished school and college with decent grades, married, kids, jobs etc) but I like home. I'd Leah's rather be at home and yes sometimes, I just don't want to go out in the morning (and now I'm older the evenings too!). Between 10.30 an 3 suits me fine! 😅

Interesting My window for leaving the flat is getting smaller Winter is linked to that though
malificent7 · 29/01/2022 20:43

I think you sound normal. I love home.

RandomMess · 29/01/2022 20:45

I hate transitions.

Always have really struggle with them.

userxx · 29/01/2022 20:47

Ummmmm, nope, I've never experienced this or even thought about it. Maybe a 2pm to 10pm shift job would suit you.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/01/2022 20:50

Yep. This is me. Not a morning person. Hate having to get up and get ready etc. Just hate it.

itsgettingweird · 29/01/2022 20:51

I get that. I'm like that at weekends. (Well Sundays!)

If I need to do something Sundays or holidays I have to get up and do it straight away or I get too comfy at home.

What's odd though is that I have to take my ds swimming at 4.45 3 days a week and 5.45 on a Saturday. Those days I actually find it easy to leave the house Confused

Longcovid21 · 29/01/2022 20:53

Op I feel the same. I hate the school run immensely. I can hardly bare to talk to anyone in the morning. I wish we didn't have to get up 5 mornings a week in the dark.

FindingMeno · 29/01/2022 20:56

Anxiety based maybe?
Home is safe and known.
I'm fine leaving on a daily basis but get extremely stressed at leaving overnight or longer - but when I've left I gradually feel better.
Definitely because it causes anxiety in my case.

OldWivesTale · 29/01/2022 20:57

I'm the same. Especially in the winter. When the alarm goes off and I have to get up and go out I feel really depressed. I was the same at school. I'm fine once I get there but actually getting up and going out makes me feel horrible.

I haven't done a 9am start since 2012. It's so much nicer to go to work having done something better before.

But maybe it's the transition, as OP says. It's good if you're fine when you get there.

DawnAnn · 29/01/2022 21:11

YANBU. I feel the same way. I need to start going back into the office 50% from next month and am already feeling stressed about that and having to get back into the routine of commuting.

RedCandyApple · 29/01/2022 21:14

Doesn’t everyone? I hate getting up in the morning and doing nothing but rushing to get ready and straight out the door, I like the weekends when I can just chill and go out when I want not have to rush to get out the door first thing

concerned3022 · 29/01/2022 21:17

Yes! Every day of life. It's been a lot better since I had DD I don't really have time to think about it then once I'm out I'm fine but yes 100% understand, not weird at all.

Useranon1 · 29/01/2022 21:18

I have this - it's anxiety leaning to agoraphobia

InFiveMins · 29/01/2022 21:25

I'm the exact same OP. Once I get to the office I'm still not Ok, but by the time it reaches 11am I feel fine. I call it my morning depression and I've had it for years. I hate it and have tried all sorts to change it but it's just those first few hours of the day that I feel really low.

fizzybootlace · 29/01/2022 21:27

YADNBU!! I am exactly the same!! I love my job, no anxiety or whatever conditions affecting people here. It's just the faff of getting dressed and leaving a warm cosy home. I had to work from home in early Jan due to Omicron and loved not having to go out, but much happier now I'm back in the office - can't win!! Much easier in the summer so just keep looking forward to that and getting up when it's actually light outside.

No, really not.

Some people really are morning people. I'm one of them.

It's when it gets to the evening I stop being able to function.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/01/2022 21:35

I understand what you mean. I always feel stressed and worried about being late. Yet if I get up earlier I will find things to do rather than leave early. I've been in trouble for being late my whole life. Once I'm there I'm fine though.

Iwilltakeitifitsgoing · 29/01/2022 21:36

I’d hate 2-10 - I’d feel like the whole morning was spent waiting to go to work!

Why are you rushing? Not getting up early enough?

I get up earlyish, fanny about with a coffee or two. Feed and dress/sort out 4 dc and don't rush in the slightest. Never been late ever.
