Seriously why is noone reacting to this?

Why is noone reacting to the ridiculous misogynistic and male modifying behaviour discussed and jokingly accepted by a Hollywood actress and the host on BBC 1?

@SmellyOldOwls

Can you really get a Big Mac delivered at 3am in some parts of the country? What a time to be alive!
Delivery stops at 4am here. And now I'm sad because reading about a cheeky middle of the night big Mac made me really want one and I read the thread 45 mins too late to get one

I hope the original poster ordered and enjoyed hers though.

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

You haven't name changed and got another thread running about a tuxedo have you?

I'm not clear what happened either. But i do remember Gemma Arterton ( I think) saying a producer of a particular movie sent someone to constantly follow her to ensure she stuck to her diet. I'm sure that's mild compared to the misogyny and abuse many actresses put up with in Hollywood. I presume there is a type of Omerta if you ever want to work again.
Were you horrified that Almodovar did it or that PC was brushing it off as nothing? (I didn't see the interview)
Ben Affleck and his brother seem to be a pair of gross frat boys who hate women.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 29/01/2022 05:03

Now I have to go look for the tuxedo thread

RantyAunty · 29/01/2022 05:06

Was Noone wearing the FIL's 80s tuxedo?

Oh bugger. Don't blame me.

Tux thread.

@MimiDaisy11

If it’s Penelope Cruz the director will likely be Pedro Almodovar? They’ve got a new film out. He’s gay so it can’t be sexual harassment like others have suggested though of course could still be abusive.
Am I in the twilight zone? Of course gay men can sexually harass women.

Strange thread Confused

THEDEACON · 29/01/2022 05:50

O have to say I was incredulous in a WTAF kind of way!

Errr what!? If course it can still be sexual harassment, if he's gay....
HugeAckmansWife · 29/01/2022 06:41

I watched it. I think between the fact that she was on zoom and the less than perfect English there's a fair bit of room for misinterpretation. They've done 7 films together. She's a huge A list Hollywood star who would not have to work with him if she didn't want to. She said that he sometimes 'directs' her on how she delivered a sentence when they are not actually filming.. I don't recall anything about dress or hair particularly. I think you're reaching to be finding anything too untoward here, and GN reacts to what's said in a pretty non committal way. Plus, it's not live. It's edited, so we don't actually know the full picture.

MimiDaisy11 · 29/01/2022 07:33

Ok I take it back, a gay guy can sexually harass women. I shouldn’t have worded it that way. That’s what I get for commenting on lack of sleep. Someone had previously referred to Ben Affleck groping and sexually assaulting actresses and I was thinking of that when I wrote that comment.

I would apologise for derailing the thread but I think it was never on the tracks 😂

Tara336 · 29/01/2022 07:39

@TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil I have no idea what OP is banging on about, I’m more interested in did you get your McDonalds?

Shiningpath · 29/01/2022 07:39

I wish Pedro Almodovar would step in and dictate what some posters do in their private lives. Might prevent them starting gobbledygook threads like this and the father in law’s roux thread.

Stifledlife · 29/01/2022 07:42

He was talking about telling her outside of the film set that she was dressed out of character , or speaking out of character. In other words he was so immersed in the film that he forgot when they were off set. He wasn't criticising her personally, or trying to dictate to her.
There is obviously great affection and respect between them.
As a PP said I suspect you have misinterpreted what was said because english is not his first language and the difficulties of zoom.

There was nothing controlling (other than as a director, who's job it is to be controlling)

This made me laugh. Thank you - I keep telling people this is why I read mumsnet (for the pithy remarks). No one irl seems to get it at all. About the original issue, if it is Penelope Cruz/Amaldovar you seem to have a point, male entitlement, as others have mentioned, like Hitchcock. It goes along with the cult of ‘genius’/revered men in all fields I would say. It often seems to result in them becoming entitled twats. And, yes, it shouldn’t be accepted.
schoolsoutforever · 29/01/2022 07:55

Just seen an update, if it was clothes/behaviour in character in the film (didn’t see the interview) then, yes, that’s his job.

notimagain · 29/01/2022 08:11

If it’s Cruz/Amaldovar than as has been mentioned upthread they have worked together for years, done some cracking good films as a result and if the relationship has been troubled in the past I’m sure PC could easily walk away and find other directors.

Of course all that doesn’t mean something might not be amiss, but having not seen the interview hard to judge..

Spudina · 29/01/2022 08:13

As pointed out, Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar have a long history of collaborating. I guess she is his muse and their films are considered some of the best foreign language films ever made. She knows what she is doing by working with him. He’s obviously a bit method, but she accepts this in some way or she wouldn’t keep going back. I don’t think she is a victim here.

Tulipomania · 29/01/2022 08:35

Love an early Saturday morning on MN, full of incoherent posts from people who clearly don't follow the "don't drink & post" rule.

FourChimneys · 29/01/2022 08:41

Because I don't watch the BBC.

Because I have a couple of things going on which are taking up all my head space.

Because I have no idea what you are talking about.

I am about as feminist as can be but that doesn't mean to say I am totally abreast of every issue.

pictish · 29/01/2022 08:41

Well that was hard work.

Anotherbrokenairer · 29/01/2022 08:41

Good grief that was painful!

Anotherbrokenairer · 29/01/2022 08:42

Lol @pictish crosspost!

853ax · 29/01/2022 08:57

On set is only part of the job. When someone signs up to act in film it includes preparation, publicity ect so wouldn't surprise me if actors told do not party, comment or dress particular way while film is being made/promoted ect
Often hear men having to adjust body shape size look for role.
