Just that, basically. What would get her off games for a few weeks?

dementedpixie · 28/01/2022 19:55

What is her reason?

SeasonFinale · 28/01/2022 19:55

Why would you even want to do this? If there is no genuine medical reason to not participate she should do so.

Hercisback · 28/01/2022 19:55

Why?

If she has an actual problem, speak to the teacher. If not, teacher her that mum will make an excuse every time you don't want to do something, it not a helpful life lesson.

Akire · 28/01/2022 19:56

The truth? Its normal surely so somethings must be wrong.

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 19:56

Tennis elbow.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 28/01/2022 19:57

No

AuntyBumBum · 28/01/2022 19:58

Vertigo is a good one.

Meandthesky · 28/01/2022 19:58

Are you 11 OP?

Grow up.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/01/2022 19:59

Broken arm.

Leg.

HTH1 · 28/01/2022 19:59

Broken finger/thumb (but you would probably need an adult to tell the school for you).

HelloKittyGirl · 28/01/2022 20:00

I don’t have a problem with it to be honest. I never liked PE either and she already gets plenty of exercise walking to and from school everyday. I’m not worried about her fitness levels. If she’d rather spend the time in the library doing homework, I’m happy with that.

Bandaging up a limb or even finger for weeks is going a bit far though.

I’ll have a look into tennis elbow…. Thank you.

It's not about whether you have a problem with it, or if she'd rather be in the library. You're reinforcing the message that if she doesn't like a subject she doesn't have to do it. You wouldn't write a note to get her out of maths lessons. PE is exactly the same.

In our school you don't get to sit in the library if you aren't participating. You are a ref, or score keeper, or line judge. Funnily enough not many kids don't do it, because they know they'll be doing part of the lesson anyway.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 28/01/2022 20:04

It iant just for exercise. It's team sportsmanship. It is actually quite important for her to experience that.

SE13Mummy · 28/01/2022 20:05

My DC2 is currently off PE with a broken limb but doesn't get to sit in the library and read/do homework - they have to attend the lesson and watch or help with things like keeping score. It might be a good idea to check what the arrangements would be before you make up an ailment.

catchingzzzeds · 28/01/2022 20:05

We have students skipping PE week in week out at my school, they bring a note from home to each lesson. Most of the notes don't give a reason just that Sam must be excused from PE today!
Our school have a good system where they must still get changed into kit and be wherever the lesson is taking place.
Is your DD anxious about doing PE? Can she explain why? I don't think you're doing her any favours by getting her out of the lesson, she has years of PE to go, putting it off will just make it worse for her in the long run surely?

Invisimamma · 28/01/2022 20:06

A walk too and from school, unless it's 5 miles each way, really isn't plenty of exercise. What other physical activity does she do? This isn't setting a good example that you can just opt out of things you don't want to do.

Wolfiefan · 28/01/2022 20:07

Don’t be ridiculous! She can’t opt out of certain subjects as she isn’t keen on them.

Are you serious? What sort of mother are you????
RedskyThisNight · 28/01/2022 20:08

Would she even be allowed to sit in the library?
My DD has a genuine, medical, excuse to not do PE, and it was the latter part of Year 10, before she was allowed to sit in the library and not have to sit and watch the class doing PE.
Which was not much fun for her.

I can't see how missing the rest of the term will help anyway. If you encourage it now, won't she then want to miss next term, and then next year and ...? School will expect some medical proof if you start doing that.

Innocenta · 28/01/2022 20:09

When I was at school I skipped PE/games and sat in the library. At the time they thought I had a relatively mild chronic illness (turned out to be other stuff).

If you really want her to go to the library, you can make something up (suspected long Covid?), but I would be way too superstitious to do this about a loved one!

TracyMosby · 28/01/2022 20:10

Why would you think she would be in the library? She would most likely be sat watching them.

11 year olds need good habits to be formed. What exercise does she do outside of school? Obviously that doesnt include walking to school Hmm What sports classes? What’s your weekly exercise regime?

Cstring · 28/01/2022 20:10

DD didn’t do PE for a good few weeks due to a suspected broken rib. She didn’t get to do something if her choice though, she had to help the teacher!

Houseplantmad · 28/01/2022 20:10

Terrible idea. She can't just opt out for no good reason.

LethargicActress · 28/01/2022 20:11

You really want to be that parent?
