To think you don't do this?!

Maybe I just don't understand petrol station etiquette but I'm really quite annoyed.
Went to get a fire guard for DS who is determined to get everything he can't have, so I'm pretty exhausted and run ragged. No fuel in car, DS fell asleep within 5 minutes so I go the pay at pump one so I don't have to disturb him, but I have to be fast with white noise playing etc whatever all fine.

Get there and there's a car in the front one so I go in the one behind. Sort my card out, by the time I start pumping he's leaving. So now there's a space in from of me but it's it's far end lane so it's only one car width, I've authorised my card so I can't move pumps.

So a woman drives in the other lane, past 2 empty pumps with the big "WE HAVE LONG PUMPS USE BOTH SIDES" signs. To the exit, then reverses into the space in front of me. I'm finished before she's even finished with her card and just bloody stuck behind her! There's a car in the other lane so I can't get out and just have to sit and wait for her to pump her fuel and fuck about in her car before I can leave.

AIBU to think you don't block someone in who got there before you?!

I know it's small and I was only waiting a few minutes. But she saved herself seconds. I'm so sick of my life being full of people who are happy to inconvenience me to save themselves a fraction of that inconvenience. I genuinely don't even know how I'm still running, my body is killing me, my C section is painful the entire time I'm in the car and I just wanted to quickly grab some fuel.

YANBU rude, she should have just waited or used a free pump.

YABU use what pump you want even if you block someone else in.

No, you are being unreasonasable. There was a free pump ao obviously she used it. She wasn't to know that you were in pain with your c section (and honestly if it's still hurting after 8 months there's definitely a problem).

Old thread!!!

@babyjellyfish

How old is your baby? If he's old enough to be moving around, you might want to get your C-section scar looked at if it's still hurting you.
8 month, it definitely needs looking at, the cut is still red and swollen and everything from there to my belly button level is painful to put pressure on. I have not had a minutes rest since he was born, I'm amazed it's still closed tbh. Don't have time to faff about getting myself to the doctors though.

Your section was 8 months ago and its red/swollen and feels pressure?

And you've not been to the Doctors?!

Even if a typo and 8 weeks, that's not right.

MissMaple82 · 12/11/2022 19:45

Ffs I do this all the time. Shit happens. There's no guarantee the first one in is the first one out anyway. You get any available pump

SomePosters · 12/11/2022 19:53

Zombie thread.

I hope op got medical attention though. Jeez!

FictionalCharacter · 12/11/2022 19:58

I think yanbu. Are people missing the bit where this woman drove past 2 free pumps, and reversed back in front of the OP?

Nevermind91 · 12/11/2022 20:21

This happens to me too. I go around trying not to inconvenience anyone in all I do... very much in a minority, clearly.
People are generally too wrapped up in their own important worlds to notice these things. I've learned to just shrug, as nine times out of ten there's no malice intended.
YANBU

DS is 18mo now and it's starting to feel better but I still can't wear clothes that put pressure on it. I have nerve damage from not resting and letting it heal. I've also left my husband and feeling much more resilient 🤣

Not a great example, sorry. She chose to use that pump, it's not her fault if the forecourt isn't big enough for you to be able to get round her. She didn't want to use the hose that she'd have to haul round the other side of the car. She didn't know (or probably even notice) how far through you were- why would she. I don't see how in this scenario she could be help responsible for miffing you or being selfish

Hi OP, just to say that my CS scar was painful at eight months as it was the time our babies started jumping up and down on it (and toddler had been doing for a while). It surprised me how it nagged and nagged and then flared up.

You aren't alone (and fwiw, I wouldn't have pulled in front of you) Flowers

JennyForeigner · 12/11/2022 21:55

Oh bloody hell to the zombie threads. Thanks for the update though:-)

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 21:57

What a sick thread to choose to zombie.

The OP had health concerns. Hope you're OK OP and also that you aren't being notified of all these responses!

Oh good to hear you're doing okay. Sorry the zombie found your thread x

Dontaskdontget · 12/11/2022 22:00

Sorry to hear about the c section hope it improves.

You and the other lady were both set up to fail by the garage. Every petrol station I’ve been to, it’s possible to access every pump even if all the others are in use. It sounds like the one you were at had a really cramped design with no spare lane in the middle so you could overtake her while she filled up.

Put the blame where it belongs, on the garage designer!

I just knew there’d be a useless husband at the back of this somewhere
